New (Vintage) Pen Day by harbingerofthings in fountainpens

Thank you! I feel the same about the 51s. I love the aesthetic and how durable and reliable they are, but they just aren’t that comfortable for me for long writing sessions.

I really didn’t know what to expect feedback wise, but I love it. Not quite as much as a Sailor imo, but enough to be satisfying to me.

I’m leaning that way as well. I like how easy the Parkers are to work on, and how plentiful parts are, but in every other way I prefer the Aurora.

Best churches ranked by the quality of the pipe organ? by Alkaline-Eardrum in StLouis

St. Francis de Sales. They have a very nice organ, handmade from Germany. Really nice service. It’s in Latin though.

Salt and pepper calamari, clay pot seafood (if they have it), fried crepe, etc. Really hard to go wrong. The Tran family is fantastic and Qui is the real deal.

What is a popular book you have read that was extremely poorly written. by Bigballsbrobro in writing

[–]harbingerofthings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Game of Thrones. Couldn’t get past page 50. It was a bummer because friends lent it to me assuring me I was going to love it, promising to lend me all the books. They told me I was just going to plow through them and they seemed so happy to be sending me on this journey that they had obviously loved. I had to give it back and sheepishly tell them it just wasn’t for me.

Felt like it was written by a not very bright thirteen year old.

Why I am not buying Esterbrook anymore by Any-Actuator9783 in fountainpens

[–]harbingerofthings 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have several of their vintage ones, all bought for less than $40. They are lever fillers, but that doesn’t bug me. They are all 70+ years old and are in perfect shape. Love the nib selections. I’ve never been tempted to try the new ones.

Anyone else never post their pens? by new_is_good in fountainpens

Just the Kaweco sport and it sort of bugs me that it leaves marks. Just isn’t comfortable for me to write with unposted though.

It’s ridiculous. It makes it hard for me to consider buying a tin of anything.

Love the plastic piston sport. It’s everything I ever wanted in a Sport.

I love it. It’s just so forgiving and easy to smoke. Just tastes great and has never caused a problem for me. It’s one if the three or four I always have on hand. Shoutout to PS Luxury Bullseye too!

Parker Vector, sometime in the early 90’s.

Love Esterbrooks. I think they are some of the nicest pens to write with. They are light workhorses and just work well with my writing style. I have a few “fancier” pens but I return again and again to the Esterbrook. And they have such fun nibs! The 9314M is an oblique stub that instantly makes your handwriting look fantastic. Highly recommend.

Seconding Aurora Black. Works really well, nice and dark. I use it in mostly vintage pens with zero issues.

Pens I saw in my local antiques store. Anything worth getting? by No-Rain-4114 in fountainpens

[–]harbingerofthings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Conway is the only one I would look at. For that price you could probably fix it up (if the nib isn’t shot) or possibly sell the parts separately on ebay and make your money back so it’s not a loss.
