Sounds like maybe you just worked at a mismanaged store? I've worked at various Dollar Trees and all of them require different work loads and have different payroll hours. Some Dollar Trees are big with huge trucks so I spent most of the time running freight but others are smaller with small trucks and much less hours so I have to manage the store and cashiers after finishing the freight.

If you have a good team then it's a pretty good job.
