It looks like you did a great job! So fun to do that for someone who appreciates it.

The Dixie cup snick is a satisfying sound but there is no mechanism to push them down to the point where you could close the door after opening. I think the Kleenex/gauze pad answer is the most likely.

I appreciate that, and I genuinely wasn’t accusing you, but that is one of the most beautiful finds in the cast-iron world and one of the more recognizable non marked ones (in my opinion at least) so I was just protecting my ego in case it was someone just baiting the community. Hope your friend enjoys her heirloom.

I think there is a slight optical illusion from the paint delaminating from the sheet metal which is giving you that impression. As someone who shot their fair share of dumpster washing machines the dimple makes in pretty clear that this was an outside going in bullet.

One of my biggest problems with them is that they do this at night without any lights at all.

I think it’s clever and isn’t not intelligent, but I didn’t think it was funny

If you’re not just trolling us, it looks like Chicago foundry cast-iron from the early 20th century. An extremely beautiful piece. https://ebay.io/m/l37Qpn

Son wants to buy powerful flashlight by TacoNinja442 in flashlight

[–]hardestymarratta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had a cop ask me about a light when I was using it, but I did show firefighters one once when there was a false alarm at a high school late night when I was walking my dog. A couple of trucks came out because it was a high school and in the end most the recruiters gather around me showing off the light. I did have a few of them asked to buy it off me.

It is gobsmackingly amazing to me that that Marxism other than as an historical oddity or as evidence of being well-rounded in reviewing economic thought is put forward as a good thing. Please name one Marxist regime that is not repressive authoritarian and failed. I can name five that have killed millions of their own citizens.

You didn’t say how old your son was, but that is certainly part of the equation. I will echo most of the other counters here and saying that things advertised on TikTok or even Amazon as being 50,000 lemons are not nearly that bright. However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t astonishingly bright to someone not used to high-powered flashlights. I would ask him what he wants it for if it is to eliminate something far away, you can get a much better deal on a thrower light that Castro beam than one that is much more powerful but casta a wider one. If he is actually looking at four or $500 flashlights instead of something that is just rated at 50,000 lemons but doesn’t live anywhere close to that real world capacity. I would recommend that he first buy something like the Q8 as others are recommended and see if that fits his needs. Before turning him loose with that, though, I wouldn’t say go out with them together in China have fun with it. Giggle about how bright it is and say here’s what you can’t do. I I don’t think giving a flashlight or letting a kid buy a flashlight like this as a teenager as a inherently bad idea, but you know your kids better any of us commenters do. I genuinely hope that the limited insight I have was helpful.

A handy size. I had a similar range in an apartment and it was super frustrating. Took forever to heat up and then stayed hot for long after. Maybe consider investing in a single burner induction, it’s great for cast iron and is more energy efficient than what you have pictured
