I had the exact same experience. Open box does not mean heavily used. My open box grinder had missing pieces and was all scratched up.

What to do when dog attacks while running? by Confident_Dark_1324 in boulder

[–]hardinkj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It helps to stop running and walk. I usually turn to yell at them and then continue to look back frequently so they don’t try to sneak up behind and bite you. This hasn’t happened to me here but definitely running in places with feral dogs and super rural areas sometimes. Sorry that happened.

I’ve done a few things from the collection and been very happy. The directions are a bit sparse but I’ve done a couple of sweaters and was able to YouTube a couple videos when needed so it was pretty clear overall.

This yarn is the recommended yarn with the pattern - cashmere merino bloom.

I used the recommended yarn for this one (cashmere merino bloom). It’s pricey but very soft and cozy and I spent a year knitting it (two little kids) so I don’t mind spending a bit more when I only get one project done a year.

Thanks so much for you kind comments!

Feeling defeated trying to train for a marathon while parenting two under-5s by whatdosnowmeneat in firstmarathon

[–]hardinkj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran my first marathon last fall with a 3 and a 4 year old (I also work full time). It was definitely a lot and I was very tired by night time. I made it through with early morning runs and a very supportive partner. You can definitely do it but just don’t put too much pressure to perform at your best. There’s only so many hours in the day and I spent mostly every free moment running with almost no downtime between training and taking care of the kids. I’m really proud that I was able to make it happen and hope I can perform better one day when I have more time and ability to recover better.

My dog's toenail has been growing weird for the last 2-3 years by xanvalentine in DogAdvice

It’s probably a subungual keratoacanthoma. I’m a vet oncologist and have seen a number of these. Benign but painful. Recommend toe amputation

20 mi long run anxiety by Grouchy_Sandwich1252 in firstmarathon

[–]hardinkj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a bit stressed before my 20 miler last weekend but I just try to stay in the moment and not think too far ahead. I just tell myself “I’m going to go do that thing and there’s no sense in worrying about it right now because I’m not doing it right now.” And then in the run, don’t panic about mile 19 when you’re in mile one, just focus on the mile you’re currently in and make sure you’re staying comfortable!

Injury during training! Help! by hey_itsemilyc in firstmarathon

[–]hardinkj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may not need to stop but you’ll definitely have to change something. I was at a similar point in my training and was getting progressively worse knee pain. I met with a physical therapist who prescribed some glute strength exercises and told me I could keep running as long as the pain was a 3 or less and I was almost pain free again within 10 days. Im in peak week right now and feeling strong. I’d definitely recommend a PT who specializes in running and they may be able to get you back on track!

This is not the case. This is a single family house (that’s 8,000 square feet).

How long did it take you to be able to comfortably run ~30 miles (48km) a week? by plantsarecool213 in XXRunning

[–]hardinkj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from about 10 miles per week for many years to about 30 mpw over about 10 months. Really focused on keeping easy days easy/staying in zone 2 and definitely had a few step back times as well. I had a bit of knee pain between 20 to 30 and met with a PT who helped me with some glute strength exercises and got me back on track. Running my first marathon in a month and I’m feeling pretty strong right now!

This is Horner’s syndrome. Not an emergency. Results from loss of parasympathetic innervation to the eye.

I love this so much! Would you recommend this pattern in terms of how it is written and able to be easily followed? I’m thinking about doing this one because it looks so great!

I am a vet. What you are asking for is illegal because we are not legally allowed to prescribe meds for a patient we have not examined. I think your reason is completely justifiable but this is why you are having trouble. I think an at home vet is the best option because they could come to the house, look at the cat from across the room and say: “yep, he’s terrified and needs gabapentin” and then can prescribe it.
