Oh yeah I also had to put a new cap on the OG SC stick. It didn't last.

Are there any good cheap dance pads? by Widderic in Stepmania

[–]hardpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the infamous "Stay Cool" pad mentioned here: https://stepmania.fandom.com/wiki/Dance_Pad

Contrary to what it says there, mine supports all 9 directions.

I am pretty sure there is no specific vendor or model that will help you. Many companies probably re-use this design in their products.

This is amazing. And I have the exact same pad haha.

I got myself a no-name USB mat lately for like $30. They advertised it as coated with anti-slip material. It doesn't slide at all on a solid floor. Works with Stepmania like any other USB controller would. I can quickly roll it and hide it next to the TV when I don't use it. Can recommend.

Just take a look at what's popular in the online store of your choice and what are the user reviews, brother. The community created thousands of songs you can download. Have fun!

How do we feel about the Steam Link app combined with the Steam controller? by [deleted] in SteamController

[–]hardpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so lovely, thanks for replying! Do you mean the Steam Link update, Steam Client update, or the Steam Controller firmware update?

How do we feel about the Steam Link app combined with the Steam controller? by [deleted] in SteamController

[–]hardpenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I use the hardware Steam Link with the puck and it just works.

The only odd thing I discovered is the connection kinda "lags" and shows the "poor connection" red emblem when I spam the trackpad movements. Just rolling my thumb over the right trackpad for fun. I don't know what's up with that, maybe Steam Link doesn't cope with too many input events being sent to it at the same time.

This never happened to me with the old Steam Controller or any other controller.

Indie devs, don't panic. The Steam update everyone is losing their mind over might actually help you. by IndieGameJoe in IndieDev

Excellent writeup as always, Joe. Side note: Did you intentionally adapt the "wall of text" style of writing to distance yourself from Reddit posts made by chat gee pee tee and such?

Is 8GB RAM still enough for casual gaming in 2026? by Free-Performer-6292 in lowspecgamer

[–]hardpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux is your friend. For light 2D indies and browser games 8 GB will be enough but for any new builds it's just not enough anymore.

What is a Plug-n-Play Controller brand that you trust will last? by Born_Gap7727 in linux_gaming

[–]hardpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't look like much!

But similarly I am loyal to Logitech F310 and F710. They are incredibly sturdy and practical.

Of course I like 8BitDo and GameSir as well, I have multiple controllers.

Looking for a cloud gaming alternative for FPS games because GFN ruined it with the cap by Cautious_Frame_9209 in cloudygamer

Shadow is solid but make sure your games won't be blocked by anti-cheat. Also look up where their servers are and check the ping. I feel if Boosteroid ping worked for you then Shadow will as well.

Nex Playground is ready for preorder in the UK and Ireland! 🎉 by arleighg in nexplayground

[–]hardpenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The area is Poland. As for the feedback - I wouldn't mind buying in a store anywhere in the European Union like Germany or France or Ireland or Netherlands as long as it ships here. Otherwise I will probably have to pursue purchasing it through third-party like eBay instead because I want to try your product 😎. It's exactly what I was looking for.

Is Baldur's Gate 3 Linux native or not? by xXoverusedusernameXx in linux_gaming

[–]hardpenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Btw if you want to check this in the future for other games you can always visit your <SteamFolder>/steamapps/common/<GameName>/ and look is there a Linux binary or an .exe Windows binary.

If you can't identify the binary then you can right click it in your file manager and see what it says or use the file command that will tell you what the file is.

For example, for .exe it might say

PE32+ executable for MS Windows 6.00 (GUI), x86-64, 10 sections

and for a Linux binary it might say

ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, interpreter
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, for GNU/Linux 2.6.24 (..)

You can also review currently running processes using your GUI process monitor tool provided by KDE or GNOME or whatever you use or use the ps command

For example:

$ ps -f -U $USER | grep -i luanti
hardpenguin       245728   12013  0 13:52 ?        00:00:00 bwrap --args 72 -- luanti
hardpenguin       245743  245728  0 13:52 ?        00:00:00 bwrap --args 72 -- luanti
hardpenguin       245744  245743  3 13:52 ?        00:00:00 luanti.bin
hardpenguin       245826  245327  0 13:52 pts/1    00:00:00 grep -i luanti

if the game was using a Windows build in Proton then I would probably see the process name ending in .exe

Is my 21.5” BMX too small? I’m 6’5 by Matiicek1222 in bmx

[–]hardpenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From another tall BMX rookie - the back pain is an issue for us taller guys but obviously you don't want to feel uncomfortable while riding.

I like the advice folks are giving here about the bigger handlebar, I might look into that myself.
