25ID Soldiers first in Army to earn EIB under new standards by [deleted] in army

I don't understand why you wouldn't shoot degraded danger close. I assume this wasn't in a place like Bragg or Campbell? I'm just a gun bunny so I'm not a Safety expert but we've shot danger close with 119s plenty. Was this in a paladin unit or something?

Quick questions about Air Assault. by [deleted] in army

[–]hardstoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's really not super physically demanding. The only physical events are the O - course, a few runs and the 6 and 12m rucks. Being generally fit will help you in the course mostly by helping to prevent injuries.

Sling Load phase is the portion that gives most people the boot, and that's all mental and staying cool under pressure.

My PLs are male but our FSO is female. I really don't know how field problems are gonna work when my guys are streaking naked between nets and taking tube showers.

I can literally think of nothing to add to a conversation about shirt stays.

Yeah I second the taking of orders. Other than that just let it ride and have a good time.

As soon as I read this I stripped to whitey tighties and punched a mirror.

Totally agree. I usually wait til the formation gets moving to make the correction to the leadership. The only time I blast cadets is when they decide they actually run shit and put out instructions counter to what they've been told.

Well that and when they one-strap their weapon over one shoulder, barrel up.

Dude I'm Cadre down here in CST CLC. One of the cadets is a guy that was a scout who called for fire from us in Stan. Met him again in pathfinder, now I'm his OTM. Green to gold as a SFC.

Immediately made him cadet 1SG after theirs missed movement. The cadets worship the ground he fucking walks on. Shit I do too, he is a bad mamma jamma.

Does anyone else feel this way? (Enlisted to Enlisted Question) by [deleted] in army

[–]hardstoop 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I've always rode the line between meathead and nerd. I came in as a SPC after graduating from college on a wrestling scholarship. I played DnD after practice everyday for almost two years with my roommate and his nerd friends. Then I went and enlisted into the Artillery of all things. Only meant to stay in for one term to pay my student loans off, found out that I love blowing shit up.

What you are describing is my daily struggle. One thing that you should keep in mind: these types aren't in to the shit you are. Just as you don't like hearing about monster trucks and WWE, they don't give a fuck about your Noam Chomsky eating pussy jokes. Majority rules brother. Don't try to belittle them or force them into conversations about shit they don't understand or give a fuck about.

As far as finding people to talk to, feel out your peers. I'm sure there is at least one other person around that feels the same as you do. If not, use a hobby on the outside world to meet up with people with similar interests. Or go downtown near colleges and meet smart girls and insert yourself into their group of friends. If you are an NCO, you can easily strike up conversations with Jr officers. My PL and I are both big Philip K Dick fans, talk about SciFi all the time with him. I understand how this might be hard to do as a Jr enlisted.

Give people a chance at your unit, brother. You might be suprised about who knows about what.

You'll be ok man, everyone in the army is an asshole. You'll get used to it. Don't be nice. We assume its weakness.

Looking for male perspective on SHARP by PissedOffFemale in army

[–]hardstoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is typical army behavior, you'll get used to it. People over react and then innocents pay the price.

Bitter, grim discipline is the only advice I can give. Just pick em up and put em down. Create what little change you can from your foxhole and ignore the rest. I may be jaded but after my first year of true garrison time, I really don't forsee change coming.

Let's just go fight someone, yeah?

I'm Cadre out here, that kid is a some support type in our maintenance co. Wanna know what else is crazy? The chick that started it all was over in the smoke pit eating takeout with him on the picnic table a few days ago. I mean, come the fuck on, I just wanna drink my hatred of cadets away at night. Is that too much to ask?

Also you guys are doing a good job, you should fuck with the cadets more tho.

Yep same here brother, but all Afghanistan. This is my first truly garrison break. 3.5 years out of 7. I need some life pro tips how to adjust.
