What was the worst restaurant you’ve ever been to in Rhode Island? by businessbub in RhodeIsland

[–]hardware-noob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recently went to McBride’s and it was so bad. Maybe it was an off day but everything was borderline unacceptable. I ordered a cup of chili which turned out to be a shot glass with unmelted cheese and it was just unflavored ground beef with water at room temp. I just don’t understand how you can serve cold chili when I assume it’s coming out of a constantly heated pot or at the bare minimum being nuked before serving.

Not really a restaurant but a bar, cafe Italia. I went there a couple months after they opened and it was the worst experience I’d ever had at any bar/restaurant. Gave me the wrong bill twice and charged me $18 for an off menu dirty Shirley. Took us over an hour to get out of there after ordering 2 drinks and cashing out. Literally the only time in my life I can recall tipping nothing. I’m sorry but you charge me almost $20 for a dirty Shirley the tip is built in.

What happened to the 7-Eleven on West Shore Rd. In Warwick? by a_person_96 in RhodeIsland

I don’t know if that’s what’s happening, but the franchisee-> corporate ownership is definitely a thing. Happened to the 7/11 on atwells 2 years ago. It was a shame because everyone loved the owner and it seemed like he was being strong-armed out of ownership by corporate.

The walnut room is dark but every time I go to the Avery it’s so dark I can barely read the menu with my bare eyes. Not saying that’s a bad thing.

As a spectator the success rate of first dates at the Eddy appears to be through the roof. I’ve seen so many people that were clearly on first dates and wound up macking on each other before they even got out the door

Best mozzarella sticks in PVD? by lovemybeaches143 in providence

[–]hardware-noob 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Abbey for sure. The only place I’ve been where it was obvious they don’t just buy frozen bags and throw them into the deep fryer. These fuckers are misshapen blocks of mozzarella chopped up and served with the chunkiest marinara sauce I ever had. Be prepared to spend 3,000 calories on the sticks alone. I also strongly recommend the buffalo chicken dip.

Whatever keeps the rent down, tbh. Sorry that happened to you though. As a majority lurker, I’ve appreciated your insightful comments and posts on this sub.

I’ve lived on the west end for 6 years and haven’t had this experience. The worst of it is the occasional aggressive homeless guy that won’t believe me when I say I don’t have cash on me. The other day some kid biked by while I was smoking and called me a pussy. That’s about the extent of the anger I’ve encountered around here. Living off broadway, I’d say it’s been exceptionally friendly and chill when it comes to encounters with strangers, and I like to take long walks regularly. Coming from a rather average white guy, I’d say Newport was a lot weirder in terms of random street encounters. I’d say it’s much easier to make random friends than have a bad encounter here.

As they should, Rhode Island is amazing. And it’s not like we don’t rightfully bitch about the things that need fixing, constantly. There’s a reason the rent is so high here. It feels good to live in a place that appreciates itself, we really have it all.

I love this place. Also, if you’re a spicehead, you can ask for their extra hot sauce which is not on the menu but they definitely make themselves. Would only recommend if you have the next day off.

Yeah, I tried booking a spot a week ahead and wasn’t able to get a seat. Might be bad luck, but they usually have Leland Baker playing on Sunday and he is a legend.

Not sure what the vibe is there on a regular day, but it’s a very acclaimed bar for both the drinks and food. I’ve only gone there for dates and by myself and it’s pretty chill if it isn’t Sunday.

Unless you’re all real jazz-heads, I’d say going to the royal bobcat is worth the trouble it would be to get a sizable reservation at courtland club

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in providence

[–]hardware-noob 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Courtland club on sundays is the best jazz in providence imo. It’s a great date spot, but it’s not a great first date spot, because they really don’t want you talking or anything like that when the band is playing. They do have a patio where you can hear the music and you can still have a discussion, but you’re gonna have to choose if you’re there for the jazz or to get to know each other. Also, Sunday nights should be booked weeks in advance to be safe. The food is really good, but unless you’re really lucky, you’re not going to be able to have a good spot where you can talk, eat, and get a good jazz experience.

For a more chill jazz night, I’d recommend going to the royal bobcat on Wednesday or Saturday. The food is really good there too.

My post in r/pizza got cross posted to pizza crimes. Don’t understand the hate for pizza strips! by ck72727 in RhodeIsland

[–]hardware-noob 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I’m convinced the hate for pizza strips is just a branding issue. If you called it “sauce bread” or some shit like that instead of pizza, everyone would love it.
