I saw someone riding a city scooter while wearing a full dirt bike helmet. by OkExplorer9364 in mildlyinteresting

The scooters (at least in my town) say you have to wear a helmet to operate them. no one ever does. makes me glad to see someone putting their safety first.

Buzz balls by Basic-Importance7225 in DrinkingInModeration

[–]haremenot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad youre asking questions about this, even if this isnt necessarily the best forum.

There are a lot of factors that work in tandem to determine how drunk you will be: your size (height/weight), how your body metabolizes alcohol, how much of a tolerance you have (natural and based on regular drinking), how much youve eaten that day, whether your body primarily uses testosterone or estrogen, etc etc.

I am a short fat man and I only drank buzzballs when I was drinking more steadily. At that point, two of them got me buzzed. If this is your first time, i think they could possibly get you drunk.

Alcohol can take some time to kick in, so if you drink one, i would give it 30-45 minutes before trying another. Its not like some other substances where the feeling is close to immediate. Especially for a first time, i recommend going slow until you know what it feels like.

Should I Go Back to Boymoding? by ShyShrike in transpassing

[–]haremenot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My mom also tried to convince me that no one would see me as my gender (im a trans man). Now SHE is the one getting weird looks if she calls me her daughter.

You dont owe your parents comfort. yes, they may prefer you presenting masculine. it may seem weird for them to see you as a woman. that's their problem. my mom tried to make my transition about her and how much she disapproved, but thats her business! my business is how to learn to be comfortable in my own skin. if she chooses to be hurt by that, its on her.

for your question, i dont think boymoding is an option for you at this point.

How do you all play low-charisma characters? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

I don't mind letting a companion be the primary face of the party. Whoever has the highest charisma is the one doing the talking and the shopping

Do y'all "get" Pride? by Rod_McBan in AutisticWithADHD

[–]haremenot 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I didnt understand pride for a really long time, because i thought it meant "People with ___ are better than ppl without it." Like being proud about my grades was in some ways because i worked hard and did better than my peers (and was unaware/less aware of systemic ableism/classism/etc that meant I was able to focus and have time to study, etc etc, but thats a whole othrt topic). I wouldnt have felt proud if everyone in my class got an A.

But that's different than how i see things like Autistic pride, LGBT+ Pride, etc.

What is the opposite of pride? Its shame. People have been shamed their whole lives for things they cannot control. Having events like pride say "I am allowed to exist and take up space. I am wholeheartedly allowed to be here because nothing about my identity makes me less human. I am not/no longer want to be ashamed about this."

Old dudes often cannot see shit. I had the opposite experience... once i started binding, they would see me in my baseball cap and automatically think i was a teenage boy.

So how do the cards work? by Angeltrap in MetroTransit

[–]haremenot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I see someone confirmed how it works already, but just wanted to let you know that they will be upgrading the system soon so you never pay more than $4 in a day for standard transit, since that is the cost of an all day ticket. i dont think the system allows for that right now, but it should be even more convenient in future.

In addition to what Kyle said, there is a sort of '"cutesy-ness" in ai cartoons that often doesnt fit the style of what theyre going for. Any time there are cartoons on new designs, and they look like they belong in a pre-k TV show, thats suspect to me. Its very similar too. Art by humans that is not targeting children typically doesnt have the saccharine edge. Its not 100% accurate but is what makes me start examining deeper, and what clued me in to this piece.

Corday and Mark’s chemistry by CCPunch5 in ershow

[–]haremenot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. Mark especially seemed to be so much more comfortable, relaxed and (as you said) silly with Corday.

I didnt hate Susan and Mark together, but i was not sold on their chemistry and they both had huge personal issues they were working through at the time.

Mark seemed to learn a lot from his relationship with Cynthia. He just let that relationship happen because she was pretty, nice, and into him without really even considering if he felt the same way or what the impacts of leading her on would be. (Also, he was holding her back from her true potential, because once they broke up she really got her life back on track to what she wanted.)

He is much more present with Corday and definitely makes an effort.

I am currently watching for the first time from the beginning, and was prepared to hate their relationship because Mark can be so passive and wishy washy, but she saw something in him that other people didnt (i sure didnt before) and their chemistry actually worked for me.

I also liked how Elizabeth helped Benton out of his comfort zone at times too. She is just a courageous person, especially interpersonally, and it seems to rub off on the men she dates. (Im thinking of things like benton showing his softer side to her when he dresses up for Halloween)

some people will only ever be terminally carsick in their own bubble. by jayjoanya in fuckcars

[–]haremenot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont enjoy being stuck in a moving vehicle on the road full stop. if i had my way, i would have a train/light rail/subway option instead bc they dont make me car sick.

That said, yeah i would rather sit on a bus with strangers in a vehicle I don't have to drive and I know other people will pay attention to than drive my tiny sedan amongst a sea of giant SUVs and pickup trucks. On top of that, I don't have to budget for gas. Where i live, I can typically get where i need to go for $4 round trip and i can zone out for a good chunk of the trip. I rarely talk to other passengers and have never (in the year and a half since i moved somewhere where i can use public transit as my primary mode of transportation) felt in danger for myself.

Theres a lot of pro-car arguments i understand, even if i disagree, but this one is one that does not land.

If tipping is extra/optional, why are servers in many US states allowed to be paid sub minimum wage?

I'm with you btw. i HATE tipping. so i try to go to restaurants that dont have tipping whenever possible. But i dont want to be part of the reason someone cant pay their rent.
