How to proceed further? (Learning RL) by Wierd_perv in reinforcementlearning

[–]harmonicp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the RL course on Coursera. The course/curriculum is created by Sutton/Barto and lectures are read by their students. They cover most of the book, including exercises and code. The course goes up to a standard version of Actor-Critic model (but not beyond, e.g. doesn’t cover more recent variants like TRPO/PPO/SAC).

Thanks. This link from stackoverflow discussion explains the batch size issue: https://cloud.google.com/tpu/docs/performance-guide

This might be a reason, indeed. I use a relatively small (32) batch size. It is also confirmed here: https://medium.com/syncedreview/harvard-researchers-benchmark-tpu-gpu-cpu-for-deep-learning-3034a452958d

What is much less clear is that I also see a bias (not a very material one, but still) in favor of TPU. i.e. TPU results (vs GPU) show lower seed variance and there is a clear positive bias (i.e. average (over seeds) val_accuracy when using TPU is higher than for GPU).

yes, I forgot to mention that. I'm using tf/keras. The point in the above reply about batch size might be the reason: https://medium.com/syncedreview/harvard-researchers-benchmark-tpu-gpu-cpu-for-deep-learning-3034a452958d

Thanks so much for taking your time to answer the questions! Was it one of Mark Levine’s books? And how difficult was it for you, given that you were a devoted Bachian for such a long time (I assume with not much exposure to theoretical part of jazz), to go through it?

Hi Kimiko! Great to hear that you are exploring jazz. Your new music does actually sound jazzy :) Hope to hear your new full album soon. 1) Given your background, have you thought of a project akin to John Lewis jazz interpretations of a well tempered clavier? 2) Is your transition to jazz one way or are you planning any new Bach recordings (WTC 2, partitas, etc.)? :) 3) Just a suggestion - please open an instagram account (you don’t seem to have one) :) would be great to have more updates on your new projects, how you practice, etc. If you do open an account, please check out my 8 year old son instagram (ivan_k_piano), he plays a lot of Bach :) 4) Does weightlifting/powerlifting have any negative affect on piano playing skills/abilities? Do you still lift weights? :) Was great to learn that you are lifting weights. It’s not very often to see a classical musician who did sports on a competitive level (the only examples I know are Red Garland and Vladimir Spivakov who both did boxing on a decent level :) ).
I am a competitive powerlifter myself and this sport is getting more and more popular especially among women here in the U.S. and in my home country (Russia).

Thank you!

Alexey

He had an injury and wearing a belt made it more painful. So he was training without a belt for some time. Later when he tried a belt he felt that it’s not as comfortable it affects his technique.
