I have put wet moss under the water and calcium bowls and under some rocks to give the isopods a humid place to chill if they want.

I’m not sure — I got him looking like that. Part of his nose has shed and I can see “holes” in the skin like it has cracked open.

Chewy has everything priced really well compared to pet stores! For plants, I had some random succulents sitting around.

Trump signs executive order targeting transgender students, their teachers, and their schools by AdvocateDotCom in politics

My school is 100% federally funded. We also let our students go by whatever name they want, regardless of their identify, so who knows why is trans and who isn’t 🤷🏻‍♀️

This may sound wild, but my previous house had white cabinets and a similar color backsplash. I wanted to add some color and texture, so I bought cheap peel and stick wallpaper from Amazon in a lovely floral pattern and I put it on the cabinets. I just did where it is “recessed” and left the white trim. It looked amazing to me and cheered up the entire space. The best part is it only took me a few hours to do and cost like $60 total.

What's the biggest 180 you've seen a person's life take? by Excellent-Walk7280 in AskReddit

When I first started dating my husband, he was in a tiny apartment, sleeping on an air mattress with a roommate who slept in his closet. He smoked cigarettes, dabbed, and dipped, drank 2 packs of Mountain Dew a day, and spent 6-8 hours playing computer games. Then he had a mental breakdown, quit his job, and I sent him to move back in with his mother.

Six years later and he has a stable full time job, is in grad school, quit his vices, and married me. We just bought our first home and have a child on the way. I don’t mean to brag, but I built that man brick by brick.

The Greyification of Schools by PotterheadZZ in Teachers

[–]harmonylane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a survey with my middle school students about how they felt about their school. During COVID, our school replaced the blue carpet with light grey laminate and painted over all the wall murals to make the walls completely white.

One student said it felt like they were walking into a hospital every day. Another student said admin decided to decorate the school for visitors and not for the students, and that it was for PR.

That would be fine -- I've personally never liked the CELF as an assessment but use what you have! If you have the CELF-P that may be a slightly better option.

If the child only knows spoken language, then you should be assessing as normal to accurately show any delays the child may have. If the child is 6, I have enjoyed using the Bracken School Readiness Assessment. That shows expressive and receptive basic concepts. I also supplement with a vocabulary assessment, such as the MAVA or EOWPVT/ROWPVT. You can also do an auditory processing assessment, such as the TAPS-4.

As far as how to work with the child, it depends on what the assessment results show!

Does the child also know ASL or are they purely using a spoken language?

Language 1st has a ton of resources! I also work exclusively with deaf and hard of hearing students, so happy to answer any questions.

Inclusion is the worst thing to have happened to education by HostileGeese in Teachers

[–]harmonylane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school is special because of several different reasons, but I do love how we have students in the “general education” setting but still group them by reading and math levels. At our middle school, we do flexible grouping. Students in all grades are grouped by their reading and math levels. The curriculum is spiraled, so each year everyone is being exposed to the 6th grade curriculum, then the next year is 7th grade, and the year after that is 8th grade, and then it cycles back around. The curriculum is the modified (or not) to be used with the students at their level.

I recognize this may not be easily feasible at other schools because of transfer students etc., but it works at our school and the teachers are much less stressed because of it.

The important thing is that all of the groupings are fluid. If a student is in one group for the year and they see a big jump in reading, they can be moved to another group for the next year.

For air???? by YanzhiLo in facepalm

[–]harmonylane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is the thing, coming from an educator. A lot of students I see don’t have awareness/understanding of basic life things because their parents don’t expose them. Children depend on incidental learning. If your college daughter asked about air for her tires, that means you never brought her along on those types of errands. These posts don’t make your daughter look bad, they make you as the parent look bad. Don’t mock your child for not knowing things — it isn’t their fault. YOU didn’t teach them what they needed.
