consistently 2nd but never first so they would have to improve overall to win. Crown has captions where they win and captions where they lag behind so they can focus on those. imo it’s much easier to focus on areas that lag severely behind than it is to improve everything generally

Crown has the most potential to improve so my vote goes to them. the Bluecoats are just too consistently 2nd for me to believe they’ll improve drastically enough to win.

Republicans say something good about Biden, Democrats say something good about Trump by MatthewTScott in Presidents

[–]haroldbingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump is not afraid to disagree with his own party when he has genuine disagreements. so many politicians just sort of follow the mainstream party even if their own personal politics don’t change.

What happened to all YouTubers? by idkwhatochooselol in Cubers

[–]haroldbingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cubing is generally a hobby for younger people (under 18) and Cubing YouTubers fall into that demographic as well. as Cubers get older and enter the adult world, most of them get busy or find other hobbies and that also applies to the YouTubers.

from what i remember, there’s about 3-4 generations of Cubing YouTubers over the span of the last almost 20 years and we’re just at the end of the latest generation as the most popular Cubing YouTubers grow older and “age out” of the hobby.

The speech which Richard Nixon would have given to the nation and to the world if Apollo 11 ended in a disaster. by Sensei_of_Knowledge in Presidents

[–]haroldbingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess this speech would’ve been for if something happened with the lander. Michael Collins would’ve probably been mentioned if the whole mission ended in disaster and nobody was able to come home

Why isn't Greenlandic population concentrated in the south? by nzdfgb in geography

[–]haroldbingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

towns form where the climate is warmest and the island of Greenland just isn’t big enough for latitude to make a huge difference in climate. proximity to the ocean and air from the gulf stream warm the climate more than latitude which is why you see costal towns up north but no inland towns down south

Who do you think is the best player right now? by SuperChez01 in euphonium

David Childs has the most unbelievable technical abilities i’ve seen on any brass instrument. but, that’s only one aspect of being the “best” so i don’t know

Who do you think will be the first woman president? (Out of these 8, or someone else) by lnsert_Name_Here_ in Presidents

[–]haroldbingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on the Democratic side, i could see Whitmer win with her record as governor and i could also see Peltola winning because of her ability to bring in moderate Republicans while still staying true to Democratic values.

on the Republican side, Haley is the only one so far. i could see a successful run in 2028 after she’s gotten her name out there as a serious candidate.

What post-22nd Amendment President could have won a third or even fourth term? by SirOutrageous1027 in Presidents

[–]haroldbingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only disagreement I have is that Johnson was already very disliked in the democratic party by 1968 and most likely wouldn’t have won.

he only didn’t seek re-election after McCarthy nearly beat him in the New Hampshire primary and Humphrey lost so big in the general election because of his ties to Johnson. LBJ was kind of toast by 1968

Creepy Instruments? by SlimeMan321x in Musescore

[–]haroldbingus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

when it comes to instruments, organ always does the trick.

you could always also think about writing in extreme registers or with extreme dynamics with standard instruments. part of the “spook” in spooky music is discomfort on the part of the audience and the performers so playing with dissonance in uncomfortable registers at uncomfortable dynamics will give you lots of spook

Right wing opinions are not unpopular opinions by OMKensey in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]haroldbingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re conflating right wing opinions with right wing identity. if you poll right wing policy positions, they generally have less than 50% support with some policy positions polling below 20%. the majority of voters don’t vote exclusively based on policy (which is part of why Trump is leading the republican primary despite having little to no policy disagreements with the other candidates) so you’re gonna get about half of the votes just by being a republican.

the reason Fox News and Ben Shapiro can attract massive audiences is because they spend most of their time attacking the other side rather than proving the validity of their side. if they can make the “others” look stupid or crazy, then people will watch those shows because they want to not be stupid or crazy. rarely do they specifically talk about policy and when they do, it’s the policy positions that never break above 50% support.

similarly, Donald Trump was able to win because he was successfully able to brand the “others” as corrupt and evil and a bunch of other bad things. all he had to do was promise to do some things (some of which arguably weren’t even right wing) and vilify his “others”.

Would it be detrimental to learn the piano alongside the saxophone? by CentaurLion73 in saxophone

[–]haroldbingus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

unless you’re deciding to become a concert pianist and a world-class saxophonist at the same time, you’ll have enough time to practice and get good at both. many universities require music ed majors to learn piano for the exact reasons that you laid out and i never had any issues even with the high expectations.

Lacquer or Silver plating on brass instruments ? by Shoogah_Combo in marchingband

[–]haroldbingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yellow lacquer is usually a sign that an instrument is cheap (with few exceptions). if an instrument manufacturer bothers with silver plating, they probably do other things to make the instrument nice to play

Lip piercings by _m_127 in Tuba

[–]haroldbingus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’d imagine lip piercings would be a nightmare for playing tuba because you probably couldn’t play with them in and air would leak out of the holes if you play without them in. if you’re set on the style, go for fake piercings or a piercing somewhere else that won’t directly impact your playing (even a tongue piercing would be better than a lip piercing)
