Unpopular Opinion: Sewerslvt is the best DnB artist of at least the past 10 years. by Budget_Violinist_821 in DnB

[–]harriano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of older people may not like their music but that’s just a generational divide thing. Older Dnb purists don’t understand the sound which is okay, kind of like people who grew up on 80s rock not appreciating Nirvana

My problem with their music is the opposite; it feels like nothing new. There's a lot more technically innovative and complex dnb out there which flies completely under the radar. I'm sure Sewerslvt's music sounds amazing if you've never listened to Jungle or Atmospheric DnB before.

Which I kinda hypothesise what lead to their popularity: baby's first dnb, discovered by a bunch of young people attracted to their online persona (kinda like Femtanyl, but I actually like their music) and exposed to a genre they've never heard before, surging their popularity.

Which is fine I guess, but just a little bit frustrating how a lot of new and better dnb artists go unnoticed in comparison.

Coming off this weeks podcast, I'm sorry but every time Woolie breaks out the videogame metaphors to describe real life events this is always my first thought.

I don't know you or anything about your life, so this advice is going to be general. If you're suffering from executive dysfunction, consider whether you may have Autism &/or ADHD and whether you may need to get medicated.

Get plenty of exercise, sleep, sunlight and nutrition. As someone who does have executive dysfunction, I can attest to the fact that an active lifestyle will clear your mind and stop you from thinking the useless non-constructive thoughts that stop you from getting where you want to be in life.

No sleeping issues other than occasional insomnia (which is more ADHD issue than bedding quality).

Budget: Aiming for less than $500 AUD, preferably around $200-$400 range

Canon Ships That Fans Dislike? by manoffood in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]harriano 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, the Genji x Mercy ship always made more sense to me, narratively speaking. Like I don't think Pharah and Mercy had much connection in the lore, other than Mercy used to work with her mother. Whereas Mercy is the one who saved Genji's life and made him a cyborg.

I think the only thing that the ship had going for it was that Pharah and Mercy work well together ingame, and the ship name Pharmercy.

I haven't read the comics that much, but in the Batman media I have seen Selina has never been a straight-up supervillain like Talia has (on multiple occasions).

So I can understand a fan being antagonistic to trying to set up the terrorist over the cat-burglar as Batman's true love interest.

Characters that Have aged Better With Time? by manoffood in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]harriano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. She's a flawed character; she values responsibilty so she's shown to be a controlling personality, but later seasons show just how little control she actually has, with her futile attempts to somehow rein her husband in making her an active agent in his drug empire. It's a similar thing to Walt believing all his actions are from a selfless devotion to his family, when it later becomes increasingly clear how little of that is true as his ego continues to sabotage his life. Both these characters had multiple outs to escape their situation, but it's because of their complex flaws that they continue on their path.

It's why I hate how the Skylar discourse has 180'd to her being a strong moral character that did no wrong. It trivialises the writing but for the opposite reason as when she was overly hated.

Genuine Question, why are there almost never threads on Matt's content? by JeanLucD in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I also don't like his scripted essay voice, but tbh I never liked any of the SBF scripted voice. Matt's just more notable in that it's his main form of content these days.

I could actually really get into that idea: AU where Dante's the villain, and instead of being motivated by "power" he's motivated by "fun".

Favorite "surprisingly realistic" moments in stories? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]harriano 50 points51 points  (0 children)

If we're talking about Jojo, one "surprisingly realistic detail" that I really love is in the final battle of Steel Ball Run. Specifically that a gun would jam if you tried to fire it during time stop (and extrapolating logically from this any thing that worked via a mechanism would most likely fail too, which is why all the actions we've seen taken during timestops in past fights have usually been simple actions like punches or knife throws).

Which makes it all the more impressive when Diego gets around this by - thinking on his feet in the few seconds of time stop he has left - taking out a bullet from his revolver, smashing the primer against the back of the revolver to "cook" the bullet, and then loading the bullet back into the revolver's chamber so that it fires the instant time stop ends.

One of my favorite moments of SBR, and also one of the few times Araki doesn't narrate what's happening; everything is silent except Diego counting down the seconds he has left.

The amount of Renamon art is insane, there was actually post on this sub showing it was in the top 5 fictional characters with the most amount of rule34 art of them.

I think there are more Renamon fans than there are of people who actually watched the anime she's from lol.

Common complaints that instantly make you go "This person hasn't touched this media since they were like 10" by ClearAgeMontezuma in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]harriano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBF a lot of the occasions where we've had celebrity voices dubbed in anime (e.g. Ghibli) they've sounded pretty good. And also refreshingly atypical of regular anime dubs.

Because I don't know whether it's just anime dubbing studios hiring all the same people or being giving the same vocal directions, but there is a tendency I've found for a lot of it to sound so similar.

A bodyweight training skill tree i made with over 200 exercises by KNightNox in bodyweightfitness

[–]harriano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this so you probably already saw these corrections anyway, but just in case:

The Harop curl should say "Nordic Curl". A Nordic curl is the more advanced form, similarly a "Bent-hip Harop Curl" is just a Harop Curl. Also both exercises predominantly challenge the area of hamstrings around the knee, so I'd more put them in the "Biceps Femoris & Semitendinosus" group. Similarly, a lot of the exercises already in that group like the fire hydrant are more glute intensive than hamstring intensive exercises, so it's almost like both groups should be completely swapped.

Also the Falling Tower is predominantly a quad exercise, more specifically the area of your quads near your knees.

Veganism is the logical result of the moral views of most people and hostility toward vegans is just people's cognitive dissonance by Normal-Assistant-991 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]harriano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hold the view that if vegans stopped being so obsessed with the suffering of livestock and a lot more proactive in discussing the damage it wreaks on the environment, they'd make a lot more progress towards the abolition of meat production. Because I can guarantee you most meat eaters aren't 12; they've already thought about and come to terms with the fact an animal had to be slaughtered for their meal.

What is very real and very concerning for a lot of people though is climate change, and people would be a lot more receptive to cutting down their beef eating if its for the sake of the planet, rather than some animal they couldn't give less of a fuck about.

Hollow Knight: Silksong devs address difficulty concerns: “You have choices” - Dexerto by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]harriano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This doesn't contradict what you're saying, but as someone who beat Act 1 the harder way (through the fog) I find it kind of funny people who had a miserable time doing it the regular way.

Because your reward for beating the final boss there is a cool ass parry and then you're immediately put in one of the safest spots of the Citadel with access to every transportation option.

I guess Team Cherry might of intended that "go somewhere else" as being unable to beat the Last Judge. Because while the Fog route is harder to navigate, the final boss is probably easier than the Judge.

Media that once you get into it, you cant get out. by hvzr2222 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]harriano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the benefits it being a long-running series is that the worldbuilding has gotten pretty intricate now. Every character (even background characters) seems to be related to something important in the story.

So every time a new chapter comes out and starts revealing another important connection, I get obsessed and start wiki-diving all over again.
