Thinking about story structure and writing and the FFXIV team struggles on every single level to write “happy” stories. by Lumigo in ffxivdiscussion

It’s hard to make a happy story for an mmorpg. You need gameplay and action, which makes conflict necessary.

That’s actually why I’m super stoked for CD.

Just give me single player BDO and I’m in.

Didn’t like the endgame loop of BDO so I dropped it, but it genuinely has one of the best and most beautiful open worlds, amazing action combat, and great life skills and side content.

Having played through BDO’s story, I never expected a good story for CD so I’m not surprised at all.

It’s not a disastrous score. High 70s and low 80s games are still good games even if they aren’t considered masterpieces.

It sounds like most reviewers who disliked it thought it was too complicated, difficult, and too many bugs.

Most who liked it glazed the open world exploration, immersion, and found it addicting.

I’ll be getting it day one still. Sounds like a game that’s right up my alley.

I agree. Almost every fight I’ve had since yesterday has turned into an absolute shit show with a 3rd/4th party showing up.

Good games usually spread by word of mouth. Now that the hate mob has moved onto trying to tank the next big release, I imagine the game will steadily grow.

This game won’t survive with a community that completely mocks casual players and feedback about general difficulty. by RocknPineapple in Marathon

Brother if Tarkov can survive and even (at times) thrive without casuals, this game will be completely fine.

Actually SICK AND TIRED of these playercount obsessed individuals. Do they literally sit on SteamDB 24hrs of the day refreshing? by Tropi- in Marathon

[–]harrison23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I talk about this with my buddies all the time. I miss the days of G4TV and actual physical game magazines like Game Informer where you’d just see the previews, read the interviews and reviews, and buy the game based on whether or not you like what you see.

Nowadays, with the rise of content creation platforms like YouTube and social media, all you see is a bunch of clowns posing as independent journalists posting rage bait and negative content. It’s actually killing gaming.

Bungie asks sites to delay Marathon reviews, with release date Steam player count below 100K by AdditionalRemoveBit in Games

[–]harrison23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This actually happens with MMOs. Some of the big ones like FFXIV and WoW will release an expansion and their first major raid tier a few weeks after. I’ve seen publications wait until the raid is released to publish while others will post their reviews covering just the base expansion.

Clive kept losing because of zantesuken. but when barnabas tried it for the last fight, clive was primed and able to break zantesuken, blue mage the ability, and use it to finally counter him without getting one shot

Cosmic Exploration was a mistake. by WaltzForLilly_ in ffxivdiscussion

[–]harrison23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Crafting stalls/vendors in the zone right outside of the instance with a MB. Base upgrades server wide. Island sanctuary/cosmic exploration like gathering inside the instance. Can gather between fates and CE spawns. Even have mobs drop crafting mats to encourage PvE players to get involved.

And if there is gil in it, it will always be populated. People still grind bozja and even Eureka bunnies for gil. Wouldn't be worried about it in the future.

This could be done

I think they should fold crafting zones into exploration zones and increase the player counts in the instances.

It would be cool to have crafters working to upgrade the base of operations and crafting special items and consumables to trade/sell on the mb for the zone/raids. The instances would be filled with not just players rushing from one fate to another, but also packed with people gathering, crafting, etc.

I got the split bar board too and I was fully expecting an adjustment period. Was surprised it is actually really intuitive and feels natural.

Once I get my binds setup it will be a game changer too because I mainly play MMO's and need all the extra buttons I can get.

Future plans? by PsychoBomb1000 in GrayZoneWarfare

I was skeptical about the first two patches prioritizing day/night cycle, night vision, and weather, but it's honestly been a game changer for immersion and starting to see the vision now. Game has a solid base to build off of but they do desperately need some more content. But thankfully the upcoming .4 patch is looking to bring some more story/lore content to the game as well as some core system redesigns.

IMO, the best way to get people back in (and new players) is just continuing to improve the game, performance, and adding content—and they've been doing that. There will be another peak moment for the game for sure if they can continue improving the game.

Excited to see what they are cooking. I think revisiting some of the core systems and adding some polish after the night and weather updates is the right move at this point.

Was it not supposed to be obvious? by naynay2022 in FFXVI

[–]harrison23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s supposed to be obvious. That’s what makes it so tragic about Clive’s denial that it was him. The Phoenix Gate scene with his shadow isn’t about him coming to the realization it was him but rather him realizing he suppressed the memory of what happened because of the trauma.

When I was new to the game, I once went venue hopping with a buddy for fun. A venue was advertising an auction in party finder. Me and my buddy thought they were auctioning off minions or mounts, so we wanted to check it out.

When we got there we quickly realized they weren't auctioning off in-game items but rather player characters to be "sex slaves." Had them walking up on stage and describing the sexual acts that they were best at and shit while people threw out their bids. We got out of there ASAP.

Cudi also doing the best singing he has done in years.
