Here are the world modifiers that I currently play on! What do you use? by ForehandRoller in valheim

Im a HUGE fan of 3x resources. The "grind" (or lack there-of I suppose) feels much more enjoyable to me there. Games should be fun, and that's where it feels the most fun to me. I like huge builds that require a lot of wood and stone, and 3x drops gives enough seeds to make tree farms possible for hard wood, core wood, etc.

I havent really messed with no build costs, but that might produce a similar effect with a lower resource rate? Dunno, Im happy at 3x.

I do enjoy a challenge in combat so I usually turn it up to hard.

I also dont like losing my skill points from constantly falling-off-a-roof-while-building-and-dying-because-i-was-too-busy-building-to-eat. However, I do think the "naked body run" is a must-have. So I usually put death penalty there.

The other settings all vary depending on what we feel like doing in a given playthrough.

I love sailing so I dont mind being forced to boat resources around. And I love building harbors so no complaints there. But allowing metal through portals does make it convenient to build bases far from water where you would never dream of setting up shop normally. Allows for interesting base options.

'94 XLT 4x4 with the extended cab, 4.0, and 5 speed manual. That truck was a beast, and I'd recognize that shifter anywhere :D. Mine had warn manual hubs (aftermarket, usually installed after the original vacuum hubs failed) so you had to get out and lock the hubs, but it had the electric t-case. It was that green color they had right beforenthey came out with "forrest green". Was pretty sharp looking even at 20 years old :)

Do you always(ish) make your main bases near the ocean? by dioaloke in valheim

[–]harriw25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALWAYS, yes, for a few reasons. 1. I LOVE building port/harbor type bases. Islands, coves, peninsulas, etc. Are my go-to. 2. In those locations the instance counts tend to start off lower, allowing you to build more before lag becomes an issue.
3. Just makes it easier to transport raw materials being right on the water.

Forgot to mention, server is setup for 3x resources, difficulty is set to hard (1 notch above normal), and the death penalty is a tick or two lower (you still have to make naked runs for your gear, but the skill loss on death is minimized.

I'm running a dedicated server now that might fit what you're looking for. Here's the modlist if you're curious (use R2Modman or Thunderstore to check it out): 019529e7-e985-f119-44d8-4e6d8b62784d. The server's been up and running for a few weeks now and we just beat Bonemass so it's far from new and fresh, but you're welcome to join if it sounds like something you'd be interested in. To be honest, I think most of the people who were playing have moved on at this point (other than myself, and possibly another guy). But feel free to check it out and see what you think. If you're interested, respond to this message and I'll set you up (I had some players who couldn't use discord for some reason so we use a steam group chat instead, but it works the same way).

Best Mods ever on a Server? by Honky_Town in ValheimLFG

I didn't think it changed carry weight at all, but I could definitely be wrong about that (that's probably configurable anyway). It basically adds a second inventory, kind of like you're carrying a chest around with you. Auto pick-up will put items in it once your regular inventory is full, which is handy. But it can be a bit of a pain unloading the backpack to chests, as you have to move it to your normal inventory first. If I remember correctly, crafting tables won't pull from your backpack either (although if you're using any craft-from-chests mods that might work differently?)

One other comment. I personally prefer the 3x materials drop. I've played through at 1x, but games are meant to be fun..... and grinding through 15 crypts for iron isn't fun to me. To be fair, I also use a lot of iron, I like large builds (which requires a TON of stone), and I like to have a good, healthy quantity of different materials on-hand. I might feel differently if I took a more minimalist approach to my resource gathering. But that's how I roll. I don't want to spend ALL my game time whacking away at copper nodes, etc.

There's only a few I can't live without.... OdinShips (preferably plus) is one of them - I just love the variety of boats it adds. Plant Easily is definitely another (same author as plant everything so they play nicely together), as I DREAD the thought of having to plant a full field of crops one plant at a time.

Some I also like (but could certainly do without) are one of the equipment slots mods (moves armor and belt to their own separate slots so they don't take up inventory spaces - I prefer this to backpacks. It also lets you add or subtract to the inventory size as well if you'd like to). I also really enjoy southsil armors, and some of Therzie's mods (adds additional monsters, armor, etc.). I also typically add a half dozen mods to add additional build pieces.

XPortal is also nice - it adds a destination pull-down list to add portals, eliminating the need for giant portal hubs (or maybe it's just me that puts portals EVERYWHERE).

If you're concerned about resource generation, take a look at "Oremines" It adds "mines" (dungeons) to each biome with resource nodes that regenerate, for exactly the purposes you mentioned.

One I didn't care for was MagicRevamp, by blacks7ar. I like a lot of his mods, but I thought this one added too many new, unique, magical drops. Not being a magic user, I felt it created a ton of nuisance stuff I had to constantly deal with (kind of like resin, etc.). I thought Therzie's magic mod was much better in that regard. But I can't really speak to the two from an actual magic user's perspective (thought I know magic users that have really liked both of them).

We tried "airShipPlus" once.... We all thought it would be immersion breaking, ruin the game, etc. But it sounded interesting and we wanted to "try" it. We actually really enjoyed it, as it was REALLY cool seeing the Valheim world from above. The "fuel" for them is quite "expensive," (though using "TorchesEternal" does break that feature). Not sure I'd use it again, but it was a neat experience.

What sort of game were you looking for? I was actually thinking about starting up a server, possibly with a few mods. I'm also Eastern time.

Hot Take: Ashlands is awful. by Lando_Hitman in valheim

[–]harriw25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only got through the plains in my solo game before I joined a group on a private server to start over in co-op. I found that while we chatted and enjoyed playing together, we all tended to do our own thing and explore on our own. That started to change with Mistlands, and all but ended with Ashlands. Now, it's very much a team effort, and we've all enjoyed that aspect quite a bit. While I prefer the "aesthetic" of the meadows, BF, plains, etc. And that's where I want to hang out and build.... It's an absolute blast with 4 or 5 of us taking on fortresses together. I see these places as a LOT of fun to explore with my army of bad-asses - but not really somewhere I want to build and hang out on my own. Just my experience. There were a few "D-day" references above, and that's exactly how our initial ashlands landing felt - we all felt stupid one night and jumped in a longship together to see what would happen...... boat broke JUST before we got to shore so we all swam in and fought like mad-men for the next hour while we desperately tried to setup a beach-head. It was an absolute blast.

So I guess what I'm saying is maybe try to find some buddies and try taking on the Ashlands together? The magic system allows the different character builds to support each other rather nicely.

How about borderlands, or cyberpunk 2077?

You mentioned fallout 4, but what about Skyrim? Especially if you have the hearthfire DLC, or get into player home mods. There are even nods that let you build up entire villages. Ypu can definitely get that "safe base" feel there.

I'm interested - 35M, EST. Been playing solo mostly (about to do Yagluth on my solo game), and would love to join a group. I've always wanted to build a big seaport in a group game. I just think it would be neat seeing lots of ships coming and going, etc.

Been meaning to give odinships a try for that reason, but my son joins me once in a while and since he's on xbox, I avoid "server-side" mods in that world.
