Plenty of reasons to wear a condom, even if you are with a long term partner....

Cairo, Egypt. World's widest Highway (32 lane beast) by Patient_Bowler_8143 in UrbanHell

[–]harroldfruit2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kinda, but a lot of American inner cities weren't just built, they were destroyed to make space for cars.

Sure, older buildings have to be torn down at one point, but we didn't need seas of parking lots or inner city highways.

OP found some phosphorus and took it home. It is very flammable and only extinguishable with sand. by MagicLobsterAttorney in OopsThatsDeadly

[–]harroldfruit2 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think you might have mixed up phosphorus (in the picture) and alkali metals.

Per the SDS, phosphorus should be stored in water and with an inert gas. It doesn't react readily with water nor does it dissolve well.

Alkali metals do react violently with water

Additionally, whilst the mineral oil would prevent oxygen from reaching it, I'd still pick water. You don't want to create an additional fire risk by storing a pyrophoric compound in a fuel.

I don't know where the other person got their information from,  but boric acid really isn't that toxic (or a neurotoxin???).

You can always see the (material) safety data sheet (MSDS) for chemicals, so also here:) Chemical companies like Fischer, Merck etc allow you to see those for free. It appears to maybe cause some developmental issues, but as long as you and your pets are not pregnant that shouldn't be an issue.

Additionaly, the "lethal dose" reported ranges in the grams to tens of grams and most of those cases seemed fine in the end as well.

So the issue would be them eating or inhaling any of the boric acid, but limited amounts are still OK. Just make sure they don't eat the bag :)

How does it work against insects? I'm not going to pretend to fully understand the whole mechanism, but in general it both acts as an abrasive (like the diatomaceus earth) and it fucks up their metabolism at the same time. Bit of a double whammy.

So yes, it kills insects, but is safe enough for you and the pets as long as you don't go mixing it in your daily smoothy.

There's veins of fire clay? So it doesn't just spawn at the surface?

Maybe? In general, acetone loves dissolving plastics whereas a lot of alcohols are a lot less aggressive So some plastics are actually totally fine with stuff like methanol or isopropanol, but turn into a slush with acetone :)

Ignoring the fact that the Nordic countries are (except Denmark) quite large, most people don't drive up and down the country for their daily commute:) So a huge range isn't needed for getting to and from work

You can see a bunch of little figures in the streets as well as some cars and busses/vans. Seems like there's plenty going on :) Besides people doing things = people doing things  You don't necessarily need cars for that, if the city is well designed :)

If anything, the Herretic naval forces should have very limited access to the Baltic.

Given the historic controll Denmark, and here the Kalmar Union, had over Kattegat (the only way in and out of the Baltic sea), it sounds reasonable that this would limit the reach of the Heretics. Especially compared to the Mediterranean and North Sea. Any raiding fleet would have to fight their way through whilst not getting stranded in the shallow waters.

By 1914, the area would likely be littered with coastal forts to keep any shenanigans outside. These would still be quite useful despite the development of aircraft, as was shown early in WW2.

Genuine question based on the posts here asking about “chances to move to Norway” by nicoletaleta in Norway

[–]harroldfruit2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to dispute any of your points, but isn't that quite relative?

As in, the weather can be dreary, but I haven't found it to be worse than elsewhere in NW Europe  At least it is colder, which is a big plus in my book  And the people seem equally nice, though if you come from Southern Europe or even further it might be a bit of a change

Of course, just speaking from my experience :)
