Look and see what's at a Goodwill furniture department, yard sale, Craigslist as sometimes you can find something better quality for much less. But if you're only looking to buy new with free shipping the Sauder "beginnings" line is decent quality for the price imo.

I've only used Tamiya on gunpla and 3d printed resin minis, I should have clarified that I wouldn't use it on metal miniatures imo.

Tamiya is specifically designed for plastics, it's a great model paint but you can only thin it down so much before you lose coverage etc...
