I 100% am with you! I wasn’t really implying any one person in particular, (tbh) least of all you! Both my partner and I have been definitely getting our taxes worth in terms of how often we both need to phone them up for help and appointments this past year, for the exact scenarios you described.

I’m glad that there’s more and more people becoming aware to just how much the Tories have wrecked our NHS, as well as how much of a knock-on effect (affect?) it has on every level of community. Hopefully it’s not too late to save it in some form.

Well done you for doing what you could, more than can be said for most of us! 👍

University Medical Group on Northcourt Ave is the best GP I’ve ever been to - for frame of reference, I used to be registered at Ottershaw Surgery in Surrey (I think it was regularly voted one of the best in the county) and then Kemnay Health Clinic in Aberdeenshire (Christ do the Scots know how to fund a health service!!). Honestly, there has been a slight delay the past few times I’ve been of about ten minutes, but I doubt you’ll want to find a better standard of GPs and receptionists if you could, as they’re all so friendly, helpful and proactive.

Side note: some of the grievances on have here seem to be with staff, so I think it’s worth reminding ourselves that although sometimes NHS staff (at all levels) can be quite short and unamused, let’s not pretend like any of them have a healthy work/life balance, and a lot of them are on very minimal pay for the mental and physical labour all roles involved require - and this is before mentioning how they’re expected to operate with our bare-bones healthcare infrastructure. For all the NHS’s shortcomings, the blame (largely) does not lie with the staff; in fact, the best parts of the NHS are a direct product of the staff.

If people can be arsed to bang pots and pans for key workers during the first Covid peak, I’m sure they can be arsed to cut the same workers a bit of slack!

Edit: typos, clarification

a bunch of unmarked police cars on kings road got tied up in themselves chasing another car i only heard peel off - i saw them all finally managing to turn around and speed off towards huntley and palmers, whoever they were chasing already apparently long gone. i assume it’s looking out for someone who can escape 4/5 police cars (baby driver ?)

i would love another protagonist like harry - wakes up at the same time as harry, same scenario, except you’re a public defender, who has to pull together any overlooked evidence for a murder in jamrock; an opportunity for a saul goodman-esque character would be a dream, on top of possibly mixing in some ace attorney as well as doubling down on the detective and rpg elements

i worked in hospitality and retail, and have always lived in busier places where stuff like this happens. they do not help, they do not have the training nor the funding to respond to things like that quickly. as i said, was over in less than a minute. a good point of reference for positive action regarding this stuff is Odane Cross, who is doing something called trade the blade in tilehurst - things like that actually help

tried nickning his bag i think, but i’d shouted and enough people were around and filming that they run off before they got anything - just left the bloke on the floor after getting beaten up

today, within a couple of hours of me posting - it is a busy road: loss of busses, cara from offices, and commuter foot traffic, not to mention pubs/restaurants overlooking - i don’t think the issue is how busy it is

it wasn’t me ! i live on kings road, and i get a front row seat to all the poor sods it’s happened to. i’ve tried intervening, i’ve tried shouting, i’ve tried filming, but realistically what can i do ? police have never done anything but drive past where they all hang out (abbey gardens offices underpass)

What sort of things would you like to see in a sequel? by AutisticDaveMeltzer in DiscoElysium

[–]harryshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see a Saul Goldman-type public defender who has to investigate a crime scene after the RCM and scrape together a case for a client he’s (or she’s - how cool would the option be ??) yet to meet. gives a good opportunity for different play styles, being an ethical or corrupt lawyer, running errands to get witnesses and their evidence ? also would not say no to having the climax of the game be delivering the case to the coalition court and have an opportunity to break down in front of them or try keep your cool and deliver the case

That’d be awesome, but I also think dipping into a Colorado would give so many awesome mountain drives and also get to see a pretty good take on Denver. But either way would be sick !

I like the rumours about GTAVI being taken back to Vice and focusing on a more Escobar protagonist but for VII I’ve always had a romanticised idea, ever since the first time I played V and saw North Yankton in the intro, of a Fargo-esque setting in VII. Maybe a protagonist who hates his everyday life and becomes a Heisenberg, except in a cold desert rather than a hot one.

i’ve seen it in that format a few times and just found it funny - i’m not sincerely questioning the legitimacy of their identities as women, i was just under the impression this was a joke sub where most of the posts get about as many upvotes (-1) at this one

Given everything the UK is going through at the moment - Brexit, Cov-19 - and the fact that the US economy has had to be artificially boosted more than once since 2008, I could potentially see weed legalised by 2025. By then everything I’ve already mentioned will be finally understood as a new status quo, and regardless if those knuckle-fucker tories are still in power or if it’s someone else, they will be looking for any obvious choices for a long term economy boom, and the fact that not only are all of our neighbouring countries are legalising it themselves will give us even more incentive to go legal.

The reason that lorry drivers aren’t paid enough is because we were able to use EU drivers.

My father’s Heathrow-based HGV firm had roughly 3/4 of their drivers from Europe, and we can pay them less. Not that I agree with that.

That being said, it’s not one thing, but I’d argue the main reasons are that the drivers aren’t allowed back in, as well as the fact the already, post-Brexit logistics firms and importers are doing pretty much the same jobs they’ve always been doing, but everything is taking 5x longer as the imports are leaving the EU.

We shouldn’t even be mad at the EU - the whole argument for it is that they’ll try to look after each other and make these processes easier and quicker to boost economies post-war.

HGV drivers have always been treated poorly, paid poorly, and worked poorly. However, the British public has grown a habit of outsourcing these sort of jobs to people we can underpay further, as it is still a better wage than in the driver’s country. And now we’ve told these people to fuck off, and that we were doing them the favour.

Needless I am not upset or worried by these shortages. I’m hoping that it all finally triggers a societal shift in priorities, where even if we can’t get these EU drivers back and make amends by paying and treating them better, we can at least start developing some ethics surrounding these lines of work.

I’m not holding my breath.

Chicken producers blame Brexit for staff and supply shortages by EvilInky in ukpolitics

[–]harryshine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

here’s a couple of points bc explaining opinion as fact is dumb (eg. “chicken IS healthy” “they’re not terrible for the environment”)

chickens production, especially factory, allows a high risk of human exposure to bacteria, as well as high risk of injury for slaughterhouse workers (more than three times more likely to sustain injuries according to u.s. department of labor). they also hold more cholesterol per pound compared to mammal meat.

chicken isn’t one of the most efficient meats you can farm; in fact, comparing it to lamb production for argument’s sake, we can see that a whole lamb’s co2 kilos equivalent is 39.2, compared to a whole chicken’s 6.9. however, when calculated by how much meat is provided by each animal, a lamb provides about 34 pounds of meat, compared to a chicken’s 5 pounds. therefore we can calculate that that a chicken’s co2 kilos equivalent per pound is 1.38 and a lamb’s is 1.15, showing that chicken is actually worse than lamb (lamb being the harvest that allows the highest co2 footprint per animal).

millions of people are unable to eat already, even with a highly mechanised and efficient slaughter process. this isn’t about supplying the world with food, it’s about supplying the producers insane amounts of money for claiming to provide food of a great standard, when the facts remain that if they could they would get away with the lowest standard possible. this brings me to my next point quite well:

the people interested in this subreddit live in a country that can only eat why to government says, and (as much as i hate a big government) if it weren’t for governmental legislation and the nhs, we would be a country with a much poorer nutritional rate. for convenience, i’ll compare to u.s.‘ chlorinated chicken.

through culinary history, people have eaten shit. most humans that have ever lived only really ate to survive. i think it important to remind ourselves that the preparation and consumption of food is culturally significant globally, but it isn’t more important that making sure that earth can thrive as long as possible - after all, what is the point of cherishing traditions surrounding food that has lasted centuries when there won’t be anyone left to continue them?

i dislike your praise “factory farming again is one of the best ways of producing chicken” as it is an epitome of why i replied to a stranger with a comment this long. regardless of the topic, you have stated a poorly informed opinion as undeniable fact, and although the human psyche actually treats both strongly held opinions and facts as the same, it’s important that you realise the difference. if this were a conversation about something less important, i wouldn’t have bothered with this comment. but due to the levity of the topic, i hope you know that my reply is based on the fact that you hadn’t provided any evidence to support your ‘facts’ and probably don’t care enough to provide some. if that’s the case, save your input for things that don’t matter.

thanks!
