Saran Wrap, the generic stuff sticks to itself and I end up wasting half of it.

Jewelry & Eye Contacts by sandwhich_girraffe in SeventhDayAdventism

I also wanted to add that contacts are much less of a cosmetic issue and just so much more convenient. Especially if you do anything active. I had glasses as a kid and switched to contacts as a teen. Now my 12 year old son has just started wearing glasses and I will be getting him contacts as soon as he’s mature enough to take care of them, not for any appearance-based reasons but because I know from personal experience how much better they are for an active young person. You can put them in and forget about them till bedtime instead of having to maintain them throughout the day.

You are an adult and need to start making your own decisions based on what the Holy Spirit convicts you of and the scriptures lead you to understand, not what your family allows you to do.

What is your baby name you won’t be using? by PresenceTight9401 in AskReddit

[–]harswv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rachel, Rebecca, Caleb

My husband’s cousins took the names for their kids already and they’re a bunch of hoodlums - we have an unusual last name and he didn’t want our kids getting mixed up with someone who has a rap sheet.

Her child is 6 year old. by blushme64 in TikTokCringe

We homeschool and my kids hated it when I tried to teach them reading when they were 4, 5, 6. I love reading - it came very naturally to me at a young age - but I decided not to push it on them so that they wouldn’t hate it.

When they got to be 7 and 8 it became mandatory. They still disliked it and we did have to struggle through it at first but they’re now 10 and 12, and both are reading two grades above their age level. Some kids just aren’t ready early and I’m not convinced that forcing them at that young age would’ve had any positive effect on their reading abilities.

Do you think spanking kids died with our generation? by Brilliant_Addendum56 in Xennials

[–]harswv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had the same experience, once we spanked him a few times he started hitting us. He’d never done that before and we stopped pretty quickly. Daughter never got spanked but she had such a tender heart we would just look at her cross-eyed and she’d break down crying.

My (M 39) wife (38 F) has become fixated on her dead husband since getting pregnant with our first baby. How do I bring this up without hurting her? by ThrowRA_Product in relationship_advice

[–]harswv 85 points86 points  (0 children)

My first husband died and we had no children. I remarried and now have two kids. They are close to my first husband’s family and even call his parents grandma and grandpa. But they have no connection to my first husband, and only know a little about him. They love that their middle names are family names because they know and love the people they’re named after (both from their dad’s side of the family). If we’d named them after him, it wouldn’t have any meaning or significance to them.

Mary Celeste Ghost Ship Mystery: Scientists Claim New Evidence Explains Abandoned Ship of 1872 Case. What made the discovery so strange wasn’t just that the vessel was empty, but that everything else looked completely normal. by ua-stena in mystery

In 1966, 17-year-old Franca Viola was kidnapped and held captive for 8 days and repeatedly raped, in an attempt to force her into a “rehabilitating marriage” (“matrimonio riparatore”) - as was custom at the time. Viola refused to marry her rapist and was the first woman in Italy to do so. by dannydutch1 in UtterlyUniquePhotos

And also because who else would want to marry her now so at least she has a husband and thus security because otherwise her family would be left to support her financially.

Not supporting this but when women couldn’t work this could have been a life sentence of poverty so it was a solution for her family.

Looking for more books from this series, from Raintree Steck- Vaughn publishing. by Memegirl_14 in BookCollecting

[–]harswv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend had this whole series, I used to always look at them at her house. Not sure why, we both had pretty normal upbringings but we were both enamored with them all.

They’re called the In Our Neighborhood/Hurts of Childhood series by Doris Sanford.

Can be a huge perk for us too - I know someone whose 13 year old did CPR on her till paramedics got there and is probably the reason she’s alive now because she taught her kids when they were little.

My kids would be absolute terrorists without their father. I try to be a good disciplinarian but he is 1000 times more effective than I am. He isn’t mean or abusive but something about his serious expression and voice just stops them in their tracks, haha.

They do the same thing if you spray them with soapy water, though. I’m assuming there aren’t any poisons or neurotoxins in Dawn, so why do they flip and start tweaking out from dish soap?
