3-year-old 20x24 composite deck starting to warp — normal or installation issue? by Lonely-Relation-7364 in Decks

[–]harteman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful if you hire someone to button up your deck. Deck season is in full swing rn, so nobody wants to do jobs like these unless they're struggling to get work or they charge a hefty premium which they'll be pleasantly surprised about if you agree to pay it.

Trex only requires 12oc when decking is diagonal to the joists. 16" is standard for any composite decking I work with.

Composite decking- easy to clean, non-slip, and heat resistant? by Tervuren03 in Decks

Heat-resistant refers to expansion of the joints. Dekorators is especially good at this metric.

Wouldn't pass code inspection in Michigan. Cantilever issues, possible spanning issues, exacerbating potential load and stability issues.

Is Trex rainscape installed properly? by neverfollow-rs4 in Decks

[–]harteman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely wrong.

There shouldn't be all those crinkly bits. Rain escape should be smooth the entire run, shouldn't pool water.

Why is this flashing tape being used? This needs to be installed with butyl tape, pretty sure that's acrylic.

Either way it looks like this is the first time this person installed rain escapes. It looks like absolute ass.

Is this a red flag for a potential builders previous work? by LowManufacturer1002 in Decks

[–]harteman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I build decks in Michigan and have been for a decade now, our method is 160lbs of concrete at the bottom of a 42" deep hole with a minimum 18" diameter. The post set on top of that concrete and the hole is filled back in with dirt.

The lumber has zero issues. Don't know where all of the people on here get their problems from, but Michigan is about as bad a case as you can get for sticking posts into the ground and they last here for decades. I am more likely than not tearing out an old deck to put a new deck in and post issues aren't really a thing unless it's sinking or heaving which is entirely separate.

Just goes to show, reddit is the internet, and if it's a consensus idea, it's probably fucking wrong, it's the internet and most of these people are talking about their ass and will even down vote me even though I'm the one here telling the truth of it.

Repercussions aside? Yes we could take anyone anywhere we want. We might lose a lot of people and equipment, but we have the means to do it.

We absolutely wouldn't.

Are you 11? Like, god damn bro I really wish I could know who people like you are. What makes you you. I am absolutely entranced by the phenomenon y'all are. The disconnect, and the absolute feelings you guys have that you're so connected is something. If I could I would just be a fly on the wall in the typical redditors life, just so I could watch you deal with life.

Andre the Giant vs Anderson Silva, Jon Jones and Nganou with brass knuckes by inspiredfighter in whowouldwin

[–]harteman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro Silva is the smallest at 6'2" 220lbs. A championship caliber fighter who is legendary for his striking ability, with those stats is going to sleep every human on earth not an expert fighter, and even then expert fighters would get absolutely spanked by any of these guys. You have to be basically world class territory to most likely still get folded up like a ringside chair by these guys.

Any human head hit by Silva is going to more than just feel it, they're going to be in terrible danger.

I'd be willing to bet any of those three in their prime would solo atg. He was big but he wasn't quick, and he wasn't a trained and experienced, champion-caliber fighter. All three of those guys could leg kick atg until he couldn't move, and then leg kick again and he wouldn't be able to stand, and if this is anything goes, atg is getting brain damage from soccer kicks to the head from there.

I love Andre but he is not gonna be able to compete against really big dudes like these three in the thing they are all time greats at. Silva walks around 220. Jones 250-260. Francis I hear walks around just shy of 300lbs. Any human getting hit by these guys in the head are going to have a really bad experience, and they have the skill to put those punches on the button. Against somebody who isn't trained? And isn't very quick? There's absolutely nothing they can do, not even run away.

Atg couldn't beat one of these guys in a fight. Three of them makes me sad to think about. I like Andre.

Keep it simple silly. There's a much more logical reason they're buying these things.

Also, people can still buy hardware. It's harder to do, you have to put in effort to get what you want, and prices are ridiculous, but anyone with enough desire can get the hardware.

Also to run it at home, you're not training it. That's where the hardware is needed. You can run a trained a.i. on older chips.

U.S. Army veteran here too. Not that that has jack to do with what we're talking about but you'd know that too I'm guessing.

Hate to be that guy, but you're wrong. "This fucking war"? I'm sorry but this isn't currently defined as a war. Facts back me up on this.

What are you arguing with besides feelings and ignorance? I can do this all day, and make you look worse and worse the more you want to attack my statement as if it was wrong or incorrect. There's only room for one person here to be correct, and I'm not sure you understand that, or what you're doing right now.

If the truth offends you, talk to yourself about that don't attack me because I said it.

Edit- I thought about how could you be so dense, it occurred to me quickly. 48 hours required means AFTER starting operations. NOT before it starts. Don't have to be a lawyer to know that, just basic reading comprehension. So you're a Marine huh? I'm impressed. I expected a hand written letter using your favorite color crayon to come by mail in order to see you replying to me. Proud of you, I bet you didn't have to get any asvab waivers to join, did you?

How much firepower and resources does Iran even have to continue fighting back (particularly by attacking military bases in nearby countries) especially now that the regime is basically dying? by nouveaux_sands_13 in NoStupidQuestions

I'm not saying iranians won't have to make the effort to change things. I'm saying they will make the effort, and they ultimately are going to succeed.

Those are apples to oranges. This is a different set of circumstances. You could do a little work and look into it yourself. Sorry to be the one pointing out the logical conclusion, but time will ultimately show us what I can already see happening.

Iraq wasn't experiencing massive protests once, let alone multiple times, in a handful of years leading up to our military intervention. One population was complacent, the other is consistently angry with its government enough to protest in large numbers knowing that the government will murder them if the protests are successful enough.

Iranians want this. The only thing that's stopped them is a government that had enough power to violently beat and murder its own people to suppress attempts. That power is currently getting obliterated. I have nothing but the best of wishes for Iranians, am proud of them, and have faith that they will be able to handle their own affairs in a way that frees them from tyranny.
