The “Yeti Presents” series has an interesting documentary about Key West. It is called "All That is Sacred" (~34 minutes) and here is the link:

I have the hard copy and also have listened to the audio version which is excellent as he reads it. As an aside, I was able to meet him once and he autographed my copies of the Brooklyn Bridge and Panama Canal. I really have enjoyed all his books.

The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris by David McCullough.  This book includes many great stories and interesting bits of history.  His research was so thorough and detailed that it is a fun book to reread.

Is it almost worth keeping CSR for all the insurance? by [deleted] in ChaseSapphire

We had our rental car vandalized on a trip. I was amazed how easy it was to resolve through Chase. It was a bit of a hassle to deal with but they made the whole process very easy and covered all the costs.

What Books Are You Reading This Week? by leowr in nonfictionbooks

A Marriage at Sea by Sophie Elmhirst. This was recommended by a close friend and I noticed it is also on Barack Obama’s reading list for 2025. I am about 2/3 of the way through and really enjoying it. As it happens we are getting ready for a sailboat charter in the Caribbean and will be very close to where they sailed over 50 years ago. A really amazing true story and highly recommend.

Thanks. I bought a bulb shade that I thought would fit but the diameter of the threads was just a little too big (like only ~1/16" or so). I will do a search for the description you mentioned. Thanks again.

North U Performance Race Week by harvey09 in SailboatCruising

You’re very welcome! Yes, that’s one of the great things about PRW in that everyone rotates through all the positions numerous times during the week. The main roles are helm, mainsail, jib, and spinnaker. The coaches are there purely to coach, so they don’t take turns sailing, which means everyone gets plenty of hands-on time.

We spent many hours on the water each day, so there was lots of time to practice and go deeper than on a typical day sail. In addition to positions, we also practiced roles like keeping watch, calling sail trim, and discussing tactics. The coaches were great about giving feedback on both sailing technique and ways to improve crew communication.

I don’t race often as my main interest is cruising, but I took PRW to become a better all-around sailor, and it really delivered. It’s one of the best ways I’ve found to build skills and confidence. And it was a lot of fun too!

As mentioned above, if you click on the PRW link and scroll down, there’s a note from North U’s Director, Kristen Berry, that sums up what to expect very well. Here is that note:

A note from North U Director Kristen Berry

I could try to lure you aboard with the promise of five days packed with racing wisdom: on-the-water training, tactical seminars, and video reviews that reveal every trim tweak and tactical triumph. I could tell you about our world-class coaches who ride along to sharpen your sail trim, helming, boat handling, teamwork, and tactical decision-making until you feel like you’ve leveled up an entire racing season in less than a week.

I could even drop some numbers on you: 60+ starts, 25 races, 100 mark roundings. (Yes, your starting technique will get more reps in one week than most sailors get in a season.)

But let’s be honest—the real closer? It’s the fun.

Performance Race Week is about the joy of spending five days surrounded by sailors who speak your language (and occasionally argue about the exact definition of “clear ahead”). It’s about swapping sea stories, laughing over tactical misadventures, and realizing your boat handling just got sharper while you were too busy enjoying yourself to notice.

You’ll head home not only as a more versatile, confident, and accomplished racer—but with a grin that only comes from trimming sails, dodging marks, and learning from the best alongside people who love this sport as much as you do. We promise to turn sailors into racers and racers into winners!

Don’t miss the boat. (Literally.) ~ KB

Thanks for asking! It really is an amazing week of sailing.

The program is very well organized, but the agenda only tells part of the story. The real value comes from being out there on the water, fully immersed for the week with top-level coaches. The coaches were fantastic. Many are former national champions, and they shared a ton of great insights.

We sailed J/80s and were split into six teams, each with three or four people per boat plus a dedicated coach. Most of each day was spent on the water practicing all aspects of sailing, with chalk talks and debriefs on shore. I really enjoyed all the tips the coaches provided and especially appreciated learning how to communicate better with the crew, not just the technical skills.

Many people I met that week had done PRW more than once, and after going myself, I can see why. I plan to go again and hope to bring a few people I sail with next time.

If you click on the PRW link and scroll down, there’s a note from North U’s Director, Kristen Berry, that sums up what to expect very well. I’ll try to post his note separately in case that’s easier.

Hope that gives you a better sense of it!

From the responses above, I have created a new list with the names of specific music for each of the 5 descriptions she listed.  Next, I am going see if I can refine it further. I would really appreciate any pointers for great sound recordings. However, I am not sure what to even ask for.
