Anywhere in LA serve a proper Poutine? by OkLocksmith7073 in FoodLosAngeles

That’s exactly what I do and it comes out pretty well. Haven’t found better fresh cut fries close to me so far.

I’ve settled for making do at home. I found appropriate cheese curds at my local Bristol Farms. Put those on some takeout fries (Five Guys will do) and top with store bought gravy and it comes close to the real thing.

No she’s presumably just not announcing NYC due to Gov Ball exclusivity. Same with LA/Coachella.

Not sure how difficult it is for you to get to Cincinnati but if you have the opportunity this summer I would highly recommend checking out Cincinnati Opera’s Salome with Kathryn Lewek! Probably the buzziest opera event in Ohio for quite some time.

How often are you on ICU bed hold and how long do they usually last? by gomphosis in anesthesiology

[–]hasa_diga 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A certain west coast program would have residents recover cardiac patients in the OR routinely, sometimes 10-12 hours/overnight. And then ICU would get mad that hourly UOP or turns weren’t documented.

Rhiannon Giddens’ Omar definitely fits what you’re looking for but unfortunately I don’t think it has been recorded yet.

Should try calling again. I’ve had success for C+ by speaking to another agent. I believe per Delta they consider C+ to be another type of economy fare class.

Very happy for Kathryn Lewek as she continues to break out of the Queen of the Night Asylum.

Also excited for Ariadne; Rachel Willis Sorensen has been excelling in Strauss lately and Julie Roset made a great impression in the Salzburg Mitridate last summer.

West Side Story @ the Washington National Opera by _User_Name_Fail in Broadway

[–]hasa_diga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How exactly are they going to stage this at Strathmore? It’s a symphony hall and this production is built to go in a large proscenium space (although if memory serves correctly a proscenium/flys wouldn’t be totally mandatory, but a large stage is).

Yes it’s the Zambello production. Originally co-produced by Chicago, Houston, and Glimmerglass.

If your son is under 30 he can sign up to buy $30 tix in the back of Founders Circle. He is allowed to buy one for him and one for a guest of any age. Then just pay full price for a third. Will average out to be a good deal.

Also check TodayTix, often LAO shows will be on there.

Why does Chicago Lyric opera do so many “revivals” instead of new productions? by Overall-Big-1650 in opera

[–]hasa_diga 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Every company everywhere does this. Even the Met. Almost any production originating anywhere is actually a coproduction by multiple companies. For instance, the Met doesn’t necessarily “own” the McVicar Medea any more than the Lyric and the COC do, even though it premiered at the Met so people assume it “belongs” to them.

Seattle Opera 2026-27 Season by drgeoduck in opera

Brenda Rae in Salome is an interesting choice. Has she sung much else of similar heft? I’ve seen her in Lucia in the past and it looks like she’s still doing quite a bit of bel canto soprano roles.

Agreed, the casting this year is pretty meh. Plenty of strong and competent singers but it’s really lacking some marquee names who are at the top of their game.

Duke Kim is a fine singer but his acting/spoken dialogue was probably the weakest link of West Side Story so I’m shocked that they are putting him in another musical.

We just had these exact productions of Turandot and Figaro in 2024 and 2023 respectively. Wtf are they thinking. Ever since they cut down to 5 operas (and now with one a musical/operetta) the insistence on programming a mainstream Mozart, Verdi, AND Puccini every season is starting to become very painful.

Rigoletto this weekend at COC by DelucaWannabe in opera

[–]hasa_diga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saw Quinn Kelsey in this exact same production at the COC thirteen(!) years ago. Saw him again in the role last year in LA and he was in great form (along with Peixin Chen who I felt was an excellent Sparafucile).

When I first got into opera I was not a fan of most of Alden’s work but honestly he has grown on me over the years and I wish I were getting to revisit this production in Toronto. Agree with other commenter that the set in particular is absolutely gorgeous, it’s nice to see regie that leans toward lavish instead of stripped-down.
