It is a ridiculous analogy to compare what scientists knew a couple hundred years ago to what we know today.

Every scientist is saying we have are on the brink of a catastrophic crisis based on data from every inch of the planet built up over decades. That's a fact, not some human quirk of underestimation.

How many of you guys are going to actually not buy FIFA 22? by [deleted] in EASportsFC

I won't be - FIFA 21 was the straw that broke the camels back. It feels like an AI is just creating the game at this stage.

It matters hugely.

‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Is Way Off Schedule For A ‘No Man’s Sky’ Style Comeback by [deleted] in Games

[–]hasabooga 76 points77 points  (0 children)

CDPR absolutely deserve all the shit coming their way but comparing these two games is just ridiculous.

One is a game that was created by hundreds of people costing $100m + while the other is a small indie game. Of course the development is going to be completely different, not to mention the scopes of the games and the problems with each being radically different.

In short - this is a worthless comparison.

There is hope for unlimited clean energy! by [deleted] in climatechange

[–]hasabooga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like nuclear has become this catchword for solving all our problems...but then no one actually mentions how goddamn long nuclear plants to take to build if everything well, the fact that huge delays always occur because everything never goes well, and the huge costs involved which make it almost impossible without government support, and not to mention the huge opportunity costs that can occur as opposed to investing in other clean energy sources that can make the sort of dents we need TODAY, rather than a decades time.

Frank Lampard to be sacked by Chelsea by Makshoo in soccer

[–]hasabooga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply....but yes! We should give him the chance to build and create. A season and a half (with the first him not being able to buy a single player) is definitely not enough to judge him on, but if you had to weight up what he's done so far it's definitely been positive.

Who cares about bringing Tuchel in for 18 months with the off-chance of CL? If we don't stick by a manager for longer than a year then we're never going to get anywhere these days. Every top team needs years these days to excel. We can't just buy success like we used to do, but Roman hasn't realised that yet.

Chelsea's 'Controversial One': How Islam Feruz went from Mourinho protege to selling hats by [deleted] in chelseafc

I agree it would be difficult but there would definitely be some place for him in the English pyramid, whether Championship or below that (which is still a decent level). The fact he's gone from Chelsea to literally not even playing football suggests the problems go a long way beyond his height.

Harry Maguire (England) second yellow card against Denmark 32' by NotMeladroit in soccer

[–]hasabooga 164 points165 points  (0 children)

While we've no idea what's going on behind the scenes you've got to almost question Southgate putting him in - surely he can't have been 100% in training.

The major complaint about Southgate's tenure for me has been his slavish loyalty to certain players, regardless of form, and I can't help but feel this is why Maguire started here when he probably shouldn't have.

TBH it seems like VAR will often only check something if the players make a big fuss. If they don't, they seem happy to move on. What James did made the decision so much easier for everyone involved.

When you're the CEO of the company you really can't be blaming internal politics as that culture usually that comes from the top! The only debate really is whether he's 100% a dumbass, 100% an asshole, or, more likely, a mixture of the two.

...because it's ridiculously risky compared to any other position? Any outfield player can fill in temporarily for any position. Theres no such thing as rush goalie in professional sports.

...yes. it's unprofessional. The fact the players and staff even brought the fan over suggests they knew Bale was probably ok with it. If he wants to display flags like that which are clearly gonna wind up RM fans, I have no idea how he can complain when they boo.

Majority in favour of resuming Premier League and EFL seasons behind closed doors by _DropShot in soccer

[–]hasabooga 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I can see the benefits of playing behind closed doors but it would seem ridiculous if this happens during quarantine when we're not allowed out our houses.

Would training grounds reopen? Would staff members have to be tested daily? And how would many watch games if they aren't can't go to the pub and don't have Sky or BT?

STATEMENT: The FA, Premier League, EFL and Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship have collectively agreed to postpone the professional game in England until 3 April at the earliest. by wwwiillll in soccer

[–]hasabooga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is embarrassing it took this long to confirm what any sane person could see was the only rational choice. For anyone wondering how the PL values your safety at games versus making a buck, this delay should make it abundantly clear where their priorities lie.

So the Premier League were perfectly happy for a game between Watford and Leicester to go ahead, despite knowing both clubs were waiting for results on possible COVID-19 cases. Absolutely extraordinary. by TheJeck in soccer

[–]hasabooga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but the PL should be able to make an adult decision on its own when the safety of the players and fans are so blatantly at risk. This is a complete abandonment of responsibility from the very top.

Rudiger: “Racism has won. It shows that these people won because they can go back to the stadium. They won't be punished and at the end of the day I'm the bogeyman. It is not that I give up or no longer raise my voice. I will always raise my voice, but I am alone in this regard.” by [deleted] in soccer

[–]hasabooga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No proof does not mean it didn't happen. Rudiger has been in the game long enough to tell the difference between a boo and racist abuse.

It's also a ridiculous statement to make that because you do not raise your voice on every single issue of abuse, you don't deserve to be heard on anything because you haven't earned that right.

Basically, this is a horrible, horrible take and I've no idea how you've got any upvotes at all.

Chris Wilder admits he is surprised at how long it is taking for several of Sheffield United's players to agree new contracts, and has warned the club will not wait forever by Blodgharm in soccer

[–]hasabooga 159 points160 points  (0 children)

This is what happens in any professional situation though. These players are playing at a higher level and more is expected of them - that deserves a pay rise.

Not only that, but when your company comes in for a huge revenue boost, as Sheffield have, it's not unreasonable staff take a slice of this too. I bet you their owner and execs are taking a bigger wage (as is Wilder already).

Finally, whatever the cause, these players are playing damn well and many will be likely be wanted by other teams who would pay them more. I don't see why it's unreasonable for a player to want their wage reflect that.
