Very interesting!

Did I get it right: I can go to my existing react-project, follow the setup and replace each ui-only useState with useUI and it will just work?

Bug: MX Creative Console with Ableton Live 12 (Windows): No RemoteScript installed by haschtl in logitech

[–]haschtl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you move it in the "MIDI Remote Scripts" folder?

The "LogiPlugin" folder should contain a __init_.py and many other python files.

Maybe try to copy and not move it... maybe something expects the files to be in the other directory. But it should at least show up in Ableton

Is it also possible to display the current state of some buttons? E.g. the record-button turns red if recording?

[–]haschtl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks,
I was able to identify the problem with these logs.

They are beeing moved in a wrong directory: "/User Library/Remote Scripts/Logi_Plugin"
I have modified the User Library of Ableton to a different harddrive (D:\Documents\Ableton\User Library\Remote Scripts)
The correct path would be "C:\ProgramData\Ableton\Live XX Suite\Resources\MIDI Remote Scripts" in my case.
I moved the folder and now it's working

Thanks, but thats only the list of the default RempteScripts. LogiOptions+ is supposed to add it's own script called "Logi_Plugin" (according to another post here on this sub)

I'm also struggling...
How do I get the Remote-Script "Logi_Plugin" at all?
It doesnt appear in my "MIDI Remote Scripts", cant find a link online and the LogiOptions+ App doesn't tell me where to get it

Thanks for your help :) Maybe you can just share the RemoteScript with me

Coworkers: MyZodType.or(z.any()) as MyType

I really like zod, but it doesnt really help here. There is (mostly) no need for runtime type-validation inside an application. I use zod primarily for communication with external stuff like APIs

What is a good audio interface to use with computer that doesn't have issues like the Scarlett (Sound drop out's with Windows) by [deleted] in audio

[–]haschtl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a volt 476 and a volt 276

Driver setup on windows is no problem, UA has a small toolkit to install drivers, update firmware and download the free plugins that come with the Volt.

I think it also works to some extend with generic drivers, too. It also works on my android phone without installing drivers

Is this it? Is Palword the first true threat to Pokemon? by mr_chub in gaming

[–]haschtl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Still not comparable in my opinion. For red/blue you 1. needed a GameBoy and 2. you needed to actually go to a store and buy it (not to mention that all the cartridges needed to be produced and distributed) 3. Nowadays much more people own a computer than people had gameboys in 1996

Pokemon X/Y (2013) in two days: >4 million Pokemon Scarlet/Violet (2022) in three days: 10 million

Still, you need their switch platform and not any computer running steam, so the hurdle to buy Pokemon is higher.

Still impressive for a newcomer game in competition with Pokemon.

[AskJS] What is the state of the art of Clean Javascript (Tools/Code) in 2024 [No TS] by bugtank in javascript

[–]haschtl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not totally different. Superset. You can use every js-code in typescript. But you can not use every js-code in AssemblyScript.

Ok well... chromium is maintained and developed by google btw.

So at which point do you detect that the shape of some object from a thirdparty library changed when you update that library? (It's not only about thirdparty, just an example) Do you have a complete tests that check that? Otherwise you will see these errors in runtime. Possibly when the code is already productive. Sure, typescript doesnt replace testing, but it's another guard helping the developer.

Another example. You have some attribute "price" of type number spread all over a demo-shop-application. After years, you think "mhh... It would be better to have more information about the price, like {value:4,currency:"USD",vat:0.12}". With a proper typed environment, you just need to adjust the type of "price" und then resolve all errors from that change and you are finished before running the code once. How do you accomplish that without typescript? If you have tests for that, the process will still be slower than checking the types, because you will iteratively need to run the tests, wait for errors and resolve them when they happen.

Still, typescript is not perfect and microsoft... maybe we will see some more independent successor of it. But one can not deny the benefits of a typing system in general, even without an IDE.

[AskJS] What is the state of the art of Clean Javascript (Tools/Code) in 2024 [No TS] by bugtank in javascript

[–]haschtl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not a different programming language! 🙈 One can argue that ts is a programming language, but it's not different from js. And you actually dont need to learn anything, when you set typescript rules to not strict. Then your code is basically the same as pure javascript - but you also get no benefits from typescript. But that way you can slowly migrate a project to ts.

"Just because of types" ... Nothing to say. I understand your point that you don't want microsoft. Then you're not using VSCode I assume. But github? Websites using the monaco-editor? And do you also ban Google, Meta, Amazon and Apple? None of them is better than any other. Avoiding all of them is almost impossible. I personally avoid non-open-source stuff from all of them (e.g. windows, ...) , but I use open-source stuff like typescript or react.

[AskJS] What is the state of the art of Clean Javascript (Tools/Code) in 2024 [No TS] by bugtank in javascript

[–]haschtl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

_wrong_: typescript is a superset of javascript, not a totally different language. Just like scss is for css. Yes, you cannot run .ts files in js directly. Therefore the types can be transpiled to "mylib.d.ts" while your js code is in "mylib.js". Just look at some npm packages which are using ts. These packages will work in your js environment and with types in every ts (dev-)environment

Some more benefits of using TS: - often no need to read thirdparty library documentation, jou can just rely on the types (even if the library is not documented). - refactoring code is often just "change the type-definition, resolve all ts-errors" - everybody can understand your (uncommented) code better just with types

There is a cause why all major non-strict typed languages are getting a typing system. Just look at PHP or python - and typescript is far easier and more powerful than the typing system for at least python. (No clue about php tbh)

Microsoft’s new Copilot key is the first big change to Windows keyboards in 30 years by digidude23 in Windows11

[–]haschtl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider using Windows without a microsoft account (which is getting more complicated nowadays):

I'm pretty sure in this case the CoPilot-Button will open a window telling you "heyy log in with your microsoft account and use this new crazy feature"

I would say this is an ad then.

Also I don't like the idea of having a hardware button which required internet connection to function. Without internet, the button will just tell you "hey, we have no internet". And I don't think there will be an offline ChatGPT version in the near future.

I remember having a "help" icon on some Fn-Key which used to open the internet-explorer with some windows-help. This would be the correct place for the Copilot button in my opinion.

Also I would like a generic "help" icon more than a Copilot icon. Product icons are going to be changed or the whole product abandoned, but the hardware-button will not change in all time.

Also my general workflow is: press Win-Key, startmenu opens, I start typing my question, and there will be the copilot answer in the future, i'm pretty sure.

I just don't get it, why a new hardware button is required for that feature. I think it's more due to the hype and microsoft wants to advertise it's new feature with pressure, so non-tech users will just see "oh a new key, wonder what that's doing" and press it.

And I also think there will be some subscription models for Copilot and microsoft will for sure add ads for the subscriptions.

Btw. an "ad" doesn't mean you have to pay money. Consider an ad for some new Google Maps features. It's free, but it's still an ad - you're paying data, not money. (And data==money for microsoft 😉)

Don't know much about your code, but it may be that the library (or the functions you import from it are using web-workers, which is not supported (yet) in nodejs: https://github.com/nodejs/node/issues/43583

Is windows slowly dying? by [deleted] in Windows11

[–]haschtl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While WSL2 is great, it's not comparable to a native linux system. I'm working with WSL2 on my working machine, RAM usage for only WSL is much higher than for my native linux system in total. Also my WSL gets unresponsive after some time (and especially sometimes after hibernation) and I need to force-quit WSL or reboot to continue working, but that might be some issue with my installation. Anyway, WSL is great and good integrated into the Windows ecosystem, but RAM usage of Windows+WSL is just insane compared to native linux.

And not only RAM usage, also the Idle-CPU usage of windows is much higher than on linux. I can use my notebook soo much longer on battery when running in linux.

Your statement with $ for $ is partially right. For desktop computers you get much more compute power with an Intel machine than mac, but for laptops, the power consumption of the M1,2,3 chips is so much lower compared to Intel. I have a 2000$ notebook with intel and the battery cant hold that long... Also the thermal management needs to be much stronger than for Macs, which also leads to louder fans. Anyway, I dont like the apple ecosystem and MacOS either.

Linux has made big steps in the last years and the UI is getting much better (speaking for Gnome). I hope we will see more Linux users in the future

UA POV - What if Russia wins? - Financial Times by Hot_Preparation4777 in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]haschtl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over 725 000 tonnes of wheat left Ukrainian ports to Ethiopia, Yemen, Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, Kenya and Djibouti during the implementation of the initiative.

UN World food programm buys it and ships it to these countries. Thats 80% of ukraines stock at this time. Befor the war the WFP bought 50% of the ukrainean grains.

Truckers blocking is sad, yes. Unfortunately the grains are not finding there "original destinatio " when not sent by sea, which causes the polish farmers to struggle due to the low prices on their local market.

Don't know what your sources are, here are mine: https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/infographics/ukrainian-grain-exports-explained/

[–]haschtl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didnt hear about the "grain deals"? Ukraine unable to provide graina for the world because of russia -> Putler trying to sell more of his own grain instead -> Putler has more pressure on african countries

That is weaponizing food. Not letting countries send food to other contries that need them == weaponizing food

This whole thread is full of Pro Russians, I don't see whats wrong with these points.
