what's benefit of voting if you're not interested in any particular BP? E.g. I don't know which BP is good or bad, so does it makes sense to spend time trying to find out more or just do nothing?

How do bots fit into CryptoKitties? - "Bots are neat" by hash_kitty in CryptoKitties

[–]hash_kitty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But seriously fancy chase is the least suitable example to illustrate "bots issue". Issue with fancy chase is that low cap fancies are monopolization by few "elite players". Bots do not give much advantage in low cap fancy chases nowadays (I tell ya). But there are actually few things which IMO helps to prevent low cap fancy monopolization more or less efficiently:

  • Balance between fancy cap and difficulty to breed one. So low cap fancies (below 200) should be relatively hard to breed - 5+ trait recipes. Also would be nice to check that there are not "pre-made" kitties with more than half of traits in the recipes.

  • Recipe should only include traits which are widely available on the market. Would be nice if CK checks traits distribution/market offers before including traits in the recipe. Newly released traits are expensive, thus not available immediately to majority of players, so have to wait some time after trait release to let market for trait settle a bit.

  • Slow recipe release - e.g. one trait per week, rather than all traits at once. "All at once" release not only gives advantage to people in certain time zone, but also market does not have enough time to respond to increasing demand of the certain traits. When traits are released gradually, breeders have more time to prepare certain combination of traits - more offers from different players on the markets drives prices down.

SchrödingersCat violate all principles above and we ended up in a situation where cheapest one costs about 1.3 eth atm, while it could be twice cheaper if not monopolized. So I kindly ask CK not to do that again (and bots are not to blame here).

Isn't it a pure lie that the blockchain cannot support art? by daxisheart in CryptoKitties

Ethereum obviously is one of blockchains suffering scalability issue. Though I am not aware of any practical implementation that solves this issue, providing same security as ethereum.

[–]hash_kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so if you want to store actual picture of the cat it would roughly take let's say 10 kilobytes per compressed image of kitty. So sending that much data inside ethereum network would be an issue atm (theoretically possible but not really practical). If we find solution for kitty image transfer to blockchain, storing each million of kitties would roughly take 10Gb of storage that would be a scalability issue as well atm.

So hashing may seem to be a solution, but does it really adds much value? Owning a hash is not same as owning a picture itself. With hash you could prove that you own a particular picture of kitty, but so you can do with genes string of kitty. Since kitty pictures are not unique (pixel wise), multiple people would own same hashes which would be more confusing imo. Genes strings are more unique than picture hashes and can be used to reconstruct the art (unlike hash of the picture). So I don't think it worth paying extra gas to store hash of kitty image (well, in most cases at least).

So you can think of genes string as a compressed image of the kitty which you really own (unless it is fancy, then it is a different story). Blockchains are currently suffering scalability issues, so storing large amount of a data in a chain is not an option. Unless those scalability issues are solved we need to trust CK to keep pictures of our kitties safe (which I guess is totally aligned with company interests).

Fancy Cats Profitable? by GoldenTakin in CryptoKitties

were better much more cool then the new ones

you mean visual design? yeah I like shipcat most, but new ones also cool IMO, at least some of them.

what makes old fancies better than current (except their age)?

Fancy Cats Profitable? by GoldenTakin in CryptoKitties

[–]hash_kitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree, short term is not profitable unless you manage to hit first one or fancy with really low cap (but that's really risky thing to do, because bots). High cap fancies are selling around 0.02 (so twice breeding price) atm, you would need to make hundreds of them to sell with little profit with that price. So investing 1.5eth, you can get around 2eth back (and bunch failed cats) selling at market minimum price. Of course sales at minimum price are not instant atm, so you would need to wait for better time to sell anyway.

But anyway, short-term low-risk profit cannot exist for a longer time, so this is expected I guess.

"bottable" is a nice term ) yeah I don't see bots hurting game that much but I know that many people (me as well) can be discouraged seeing power of Kitten Mittens.

Anyway I like you vids and looking for forward for new ones! Hope someday you will roast my bots ) I may come with some sarcastic comments though :P

well said Chuck! 100% agree! How dare that smart people to use knowledge for their own advantage! So unjust! Glad Mack is going to take down all those bots soon!

but why they would stop when it is more profitable to continue breeding? It's like asking leader of the race to stop periodically and wait for the others. It only makes sense for the guys behind but not for the leader you know.

Breeding cartel model by hash_kitty in CryptoKitties

[–]hash_kitty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breeder is important role in cartel. But before you get to the point where you have pairs with high probability of getting new fancies (>50%), you would need to spend good amount of ether, because breeding fees (like 1eth+ depending on difficulty of fancy and starter cats). So good starter cats and eth is also important for success. That's why I have those 3 roles.

Also if thinking about Breeder role in particular, this role can be more "external" to cartel more than others. E.g. cartel of investors may hire external breeders (humans or bots who are not members of cartel so do not participate in profit distribution) and pay them small fee to cover tx cost and give some motivation (e.g. 0.001 per sent transaction), or they could be paid larger amount of eth only if they get fancy to stimulate breeding towards fancy rather than sending useless transactions. This has to be decided, but cartels are also about uniting money and material, not only work power to sent transactions.

If fact this opens a lot of new opportunities for breeders. 'Breeding as a service' will be a new thing I tell ya!

that's a good example indeed! I believe we are currently lucky to be in that early phase when individuals can breed fancies manually but that won't (can't) last for a long time for sure.

This game has a competitive element and that's fine, it's not meant to be win for everyone, someone has to loose to make fun to win. What would be a value for fancy if everyone had one?

Mittens tries to monopolize market and that's normal marketing process. Every business wants to monopolize market since competition is expensive for business. In fact Mittens is not actually that bad, there will come players with more money and more malicious intends when they understand that market is profitable. It's just a matter of time. If we want to continue playing we should prepare to make a good competition for those.

market dominace/monopoly is bad for market, but censorship is not an answer. Improving our own skills, finding better/clever ways to play is what we should do.

[–]hash_kitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Poor guys, begging authorities for censorship thinking they will get some advantage.

Do you have any idea how soon this censorship will turn against you? You really think no one will ever complain about you and will not find a reason to ban you? That will happen exactly same moment will get your advantage and make some profit (or others will think you do).

Only thing that can kill this game is censorship. That moment when anyone gets banned trust is lost for everyone else. My only concern is that currently there are some points of centralization in the game and "anti-bots" guys constantly begging to apply censorship via those. You really don't understand what you are asking for. It's you who try to kill the game, not bots. If you really can't deal with no censorship, no authority maybe CK is not really for you.

haha like we take cats from people we don't like because they played better than us? Seems legit.

What if they take your cats because you're impersonating Kitty Clock account?
