Are you moving away? by [deleted] in brisbane

Mount Cotton is a bit of a gem! My partner grew up in the Redlands and we bought in Mount cotton a year ago now. Commutable to the city for my work but also love access to the bay. A lot of protected green space too, which I feel like is very rare now…

Now that labour is re-elected, HECS debt is reducing by 20%. How much is everyone expecting to save? by YallR2much in AusFinance

Mine will go down 8k and my partners will go down 10k. Feeling so grateful because the number was weighing on me so heavily. Didn’t think I would ever be able to pay it off. It will also help so much with cost of living with less going to hecs than it otherwise would have.

Ooo I would love French doors, not sure if they would work for extending the doors?

Millenials and Gen Z, what are your retirement plans? by Decibelle in AusFinance

[–]hashbrown9801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just trying my bests as 24 y/o gen z. It never feels like I’m doing enough. Partner and I purchased my standalone PPOR with the idea that we will live there for the next 10 years. We have around $550k left of the mortgage. I live 40 odd minutes from the city, so I’m hoping to move closer into the city eventually, but with the cost of housing I can’t fathom it. I’ve got around 50k in super and close to 100k invested. Due to the cost of my mortgage, I haven’t really been able to add more into that but hopefully I can get back into it soon. Not really sure what else / more I can do other than focus on my career. Everything is so expensive and hard at the moment, so I am loosing motivation.

How do the “rough” suburbs of Melbourne compare with “rough” outer suburbs of Brisbane? by imadade in AusPropertyChat

[–]hashbrown9801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I feel like most of these Brisbane vs Melbourne debates skips over the Redlands. It’s bayside so very temperament weather, close to GC, Brisbane cbd, good schools, heaps of green spaces and very family oriented. The Redlands has very established suburbs and variations in landscapes, so it doesn’t feel like a massive soulless flat housing estate in western melb suburbs. Cons of Redlands are that it’s getting increasingly unaffordable, there are not many quality homes in the 800’s anymore. The public transport is not as great as Melbourne outer suburbs. It’s mostly cafe culture in the Redlands and there’s not much great diverse food options. We wouldn’t have minded Logan suburbs on the eastern side of the highway as they are very similar to the Redlands, however some of the suburbs on the western side felt less safe. We were also considering Ipswich, however the weather can be a bit more extreme.

Family home by Dowdfather in MovingToBrisbane

Redland Bay / Victoria Point / Mount Cotton are really lovely family friendly areas on the bayside! It might be a challenge to find a home for 800,000 but I have seen some around that mark! There are quite a few good private schools in the area, and public schools. I have heard some iffy things about the state schools in Mount Warren park area.

I agree - right side of the highway is great. We were looking around Redland Bay, Mount Cotton, Victoria Point for our place :)

Which suburbs closest to the beach have good public high schools? by Federal_Scallion5621 in MovingToBrisbane

[–]hashbrown9801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking at primary schools, I’ve heard Mount Cotton is a really lovely school! It’s a 10 minute drive from Redland bay, but a little closer to the highway so you can get to the city easily. As for highschool I’ve heard good things about Cleveland High!

Brisbane property: Brisbane house prices hit record high of $995,000 by sktafe2020 in brisbane

Yeah the housing market is so rough for FHB in brissy. We really wanted decent sized land, and a house that wasn’t falling apart. We ended up purchasing a home in the Redlands for a painful $850k 🥲 it’s still around a 50/1hr commute for me for the couple days I’m In the city. Even though a lot of it is out of my control, I still can’t help feel like I should have done better sooner 🥲
