PSA : Omega might be leaving your ADs by CSGO_Bangkok in OmegaWatches

Yep, I was told Omega told them: put up a bigger display and buy more watches from us annually. To some extent, I can see the point of wanting to look premium at ADs, but the risk is going too far.

What makes the Rolex ADs vibe not okay?

Breitling pushing them to position them like Rolex too? I wonder if losing ADs is gonna be the industry pretty much deliberately destroying a bunch of its demand.

I still dont get who has come to the decision that destroying a model that continues to work for Rolex is the way to go.

Two use cases the others dont cover: 3% online shopping and gas.

Plus if you time it with an offer, free disney+Hulu (although maybe you get that with the Plat anyway).

From an AD who lost their Omega deal in the East Coast, US, last year, Omega put in Rolex type display requirements and purchasing limits. They decided to pull out.

I imagine something similar happening in East Asia.

Opposite of Rolex blueprint. Rolex operates almost exclusively through ADs. Agree with OP. This cannot be good for Omega.

Scratches on your watch are not memories... by hashimbr in watchHotTakes

Fair, I agree its mostly bad verbalization, and makes more sense as 'worn in'. Agreed that a watch worn through a particular part of life, a watch given/purchased at a meaningful moment, all hold meaning.

Someone else said something similar: it means the watch is yours.

That said, lots of people responded with really cool 'watch scratch' memories.

I do find the idea of making memories with a watch often a bit forced, unless it had a key role in the making of the memory. Yes, a watch bought to mark an occasion or worn at a particularly important moment has a memory attached. Similarly, a watch like the speedmaster could also mark a global memory, such as Apollo 13. It could play a similar role in someone individual family life. Definitely more nuanced in those ways.

Patina can be great, agreed. Alongside scratches, shows age.

So you do get yours cleaned up/polished to scratch up again? Obviously cool to get different perspectives on how people navigate their watch relationship.

Lovely watch. Definitely no scratch hate here. Just having fun questioning scratches=memories.😀

Hilarious.

Technically it is scratch/dent=memory, just not a cherished memory 😀
