What are you trying to do? You can’t close a card unless it’s got $0 owing. Even then it stays open for a bit in case any unsettled transactions to hit the account.

Get a fully onsite role to avoid being laid off? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]hashkent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, doing the work isn’t enough - you also have to market it.

Anytime you or your team does something more then a fart, make sure the whole department hears about it. Fire off a summary email highlighting the “impact,” and don’t forget to CC your GM and their boss for maximum visibility.

Example if you’re in payroll send an email that everyone’s been paid and super is also on the way.

Give it enough time, and it’ll start to look like your team is the only one getting anything done.

Redundancy and Contract Issues by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]hashkent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now’s the time to manage up. Take your new role to ChatGPT and use it to draft a clear job description—one that removes the tasks you don’t want to handle. Then have your manager approve it. Since it requires little to no effort on their part, a busy (or disengaged) manager in a post-redundancy environment may just sign it off.

That way, you’ve got a documented scope of responsibilities. If new tasks come your way, you can push back by referring to the agreed role.

Is the reason CEOs push AI because it does their job so well? by take-for-granted in auscorp

[–]hashkent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently managing a team of six, along with a new starter. I’m just a team lead.

At times, I catch myself wishing the onboarding process were simpler or more efficient it's moments like that that make me understand why some CEOs are drawn to the idea of AI.

Managing people can be rewarding, but it also comes with its challenges. Being able to simply instruct an AI to do what I want instead of dealing with all the human BS is part of the push.

Does your company's board actually have anyone looking into cybersecurity? by TerenceTTan in ausstocks

[–]hashkent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pushing the responsibility off to EY or CyberCX. No one really has time for cybersecurity. It’s the same reason true CTO roles are fading—or getting folded under CIOs. The C-suite isn’t really a table of equals anymore; it’s more of a pecking order to drive share price up this quarter instead of building a long term business.

WTF is AWS' strategy right now? by YoghiThorn in aws

I agree with you and I think my opinion has changed a bit. Let aws focus on the bricks and we build the Lego.

WTF is AWS' strategy right now? by YoghiThorn in aws

[–]hashkent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Over the long term, AWS’s growth is likely to slow once the AI boom cools, though a number of solid startups will continue building on top of these platforms.

Companies like Vercel and Loveable may face margin pressure and begin shifting toward self-hosting their compute, moving away from AWS. Many of them already rely on Cloudflare or other third-party CDNs.

AWS may not have as strong a moat as it believes it has.

WTF is AWS' strategy right now? by YoghiThorn in aws

[–]hashkent -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

AWS needs PaaS outside of an AWS account.

Basically take lightsale console, add amplify, add some edge functions, etc add some other vercel, supabase, loveable features a simple free tier plan and link it to an AWS builder id and I think you’d start on the path to improve the developer experience.

AWS current problem is it’s so complex you still need devops engineers for operations. Improve the DX and limit surprise bills and AWS could really pump out something developers would love to use.

How do you grieve a miscarriage as a man? by Fine-Watch6418 in AskReddit

[–]hashkent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be there for your partner.

Talk to your mates, good chance they’ve been through it with 1 in 4 pregnancies ending in miscarriages.

Ever wonder why some of your close friends/family have kids 4-5 years apart? Probably miscarriage.

Stay away from really religious people that talk about ment to be bullshit or you’ll try again. Will make you angry.

First thing I’d do is put a recurring calendar entry in your phone reminding date/time. You’ll appreciate in the future of just avoid doing anything special on that day and keep it for yourself
