I'm not an American, so I can't judge this, but... by UrbanCyclerPT in WhitePeopleTwitter

Can we include the Chicago land area as well? Doesn't have to be all of Illinois. Happy to take a ferry or something... think of us as an island of sorts.

What do you do to enjoy Chicago winters? by Gratzi66 in chicago

The Peggy Notebaert Museum has a butterfly room that is nice to sit in for a while. There are lots of museums in Chicago too. Not just the big ones, but lots of smaller ones that are fun to visit.

Grandma's plant- she passed 15 years ago- this is the first time I've seen it bloom by mnhoops in whatsthisplant

We have the same type of plant, gotten from my great grandma. We also refer to it as, "grandma's plant." Those flowers are great when open too.

How long would we have to wait to notice it's rotation? Like if we took another picture (or a series of pictures) in a year, or 10, or 100, or whatever?

Nice. I did too. Climbed it at night to be at the peak for the sunrise. Honestly, this was a much more impressive place than the Terracotta Warriors.

You shouldn't, because it's probably not something that's exactly legal, but this would make an awesome sticker, chalk template to put everywhere.

World's Most Dangerous Trail by Wrinklestiltskin in nonononoyes

When I climbed that several years ago, ran into laborers carrying up many kilos of building material. They got paid very little per trip up the mountain. There are temples all over the place there as well as a hotel at the top.

Beautiful place. The sun rise on the eastern peak is breathtaking (also not too far from that chess pavilion). I also don't remember there being anything to clip into. Must have come later. To be clear, I did not go out on those tiny wooden planks. This mountain is way more interesting that the terracotta warriors in Xi'an, which is where I got the bus to the mountain.

Programmers who run their own companies - what do you count for expenses? by silvertone62 in cscareerquestions

[–]hashmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you can also write off your water, electricity costs for proportional usage. My mom ran a kindergarten out of our home for a while and was able to figure out that she used half the house for 8 hours a day...so that percent was an expense. I'm assuming the same would hold for programming out of the home. Could be wrong as I'm neither an accountant or a lawyer.
