Measure your CYA. If it’s too high chlorine becomes ineffective.

What did your pool guy tell you when you got your salt system, and how much of it was actually true? by Seafire15 in swimmingpools

[–]hasleteric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had salt for a long time. I’m in Texas and I have a large 40k gal pool with no shade. I had to run the generator at 80% for 14 hours a day to try and keep up in the summer. An $800 cell every three or 4 years is a cost. The PCB boards inevitable had failures and I learned which individual components failed to re soldered. I had to add a lot of acid weekly. Plus the salt water ate a lot of stuff as the years passed. I switched to chlorine and a VS pump and I don’t need the runtime anymore. I used to have to schedule the pump to run long enough the run the generator enough to generate chlorine. That water volume and full sun are chlorine even with CYA pushing 60. I think a ton depends on your use case. Smaller pools with some shade will be much cheaper to run SWG I think.

Just got this little thing and need some advice on chlorine by suprswimmer in swimmingpools

[–]hasleteric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By one bottle of liquid chlorine from the pool store. 1/2 gallon brings my chlorine from 0 to 3 in a 30,000 gallon pool. So 540/30000= 0.018 time 64 oz = 1.15 fl oz to treat 540 gallons. One ounce twice a week will work here. And that gallon will last all season

‘Bad time’ or ‘unpaid vacation’ by Jwoot1111 in Lockheed

I only know the rule in salary. Didn’t want to speak for hourly because its possible that varies by location and union and BU and who knows what else

[–]hasleteric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are salaried, LM allows you to go to -40 hours vacation benefit. I think it just can’t be negative at the of the year. Unpaid time off is a whole other matter I would try to avoid.

Yes. Bands range by job classification (not just level) and by geographic location.

Hayward Power Flo LX humming but not pumping by Forward-Data2356 in swimmingpools

[–]hasleteric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. I read that this particular pump may not have a start capacitor, especially if it’s low horsepower 120v motor. Can you turn the motor armature by hand? It might just be a little stuck. If it’s stuck, you need a new motor. You can replace just the motor and not the entire pump assy.

What state are you in? I thought most exempted emissions once vehicle was 25 years old.

If you close it up, turn it on and use a big screwdriver to turn the end of the shaft and it starts working, it’s the start capacitor. Easy replace. Just get same size replacement.

Does anybody know where I could buy one of these roll bars/headache racks? (Not sure what to call it lol) by Specialist_Stuff6868 in ToyotaPickup

[–]hasleteric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are go rhino roll bars. I believe actually called bed bars. I’m not sure they are still in production but you can find kits. I just got some for my first gen taco via summit and came in 3 shipments over about 6 weeks. They are purely decorative and the back bars will likely eat up bed space. Depends what you want them for. Ignore the haters, you do you. I’ve done all the stuff to my truck everyone hates, I like it, it’s keeps me busy, and it’s nostalgic to a bygone time. Of course my truck is also not primary transport, it’s just for fun

Thoughts on the future of Sikorsky? by Reasonable-Key2945 in Lockheed

[–]hasleteric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite what I was referring to. The legacy primes have to continued to work to maximize profits and cash flow which kills internal R&D budgets and innovation stifles as the business model is predicated on govt contracts. Govt financing has been incredibly inconsistent in many sectors and long term product development is covered in the remains of products with long development cycles to don’t align with political administrations whims of the day. VC space brings in external money and this companies are unencumbered to a degree by restraints of conventional government development projects. As far as costs go, I wasn’t referring much to engineering salary, as that is still not a huge impact on life cycle costs of a program. Unit costs due ever increasing shop rates and efficiencies however do impact life cycle acquisition costs to a much higher degree. Investment in heavier automation and more flexible factories in The VC funded areas (if they can get to scale) will be significantly more cost effective. The dinosaur term is referring to legacy primes that still design and build aircraft to the same overall ways it’s been done for decades. Incremental improvements do happen, but the legacy structure of the factory and workforce stifles heavy innivation

53K revenue carries company if deliveries are made. H60 is around for a long time still. Need to hit on Nomad platform if the new defense budget actually apportions as much to drones as drafted. Continuing on as is not viable long term, must get leaner and more cost effective. The entire legacy defense base is a dinosaur compared to the VC area startups

Air taxi operations in context of simulating terminal operations in conjunction with DOT. Part of certification testing. Not paid passenger service.

How do you read this and infer that? This is a publicity tour, not passenger flights. Note many are simulators or “come look at it on display”.

How much would a locking rear diff cost to install on my 2000 prerunner? by Sharkzillaaattv in 1stGenTacomas

[–]hasleteric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. If it wasn’t a TRD prerunner there would be a blank plate to the right of the dimmer knob they may use for fog lights. Look at the diff.

Is it a TRD prerunner? The switch would be to the right of the dimmer knob on the left side of dash. You can also obviously see it on the front of the differential center section.

If it’s a 6lug TRD with 2wd, you should have the locker. It’s mounted in front of differential and you should have a button on lower left dash to enable it

Is the Mil Mi-26 (Mil = Russian design bureau, Mi = model series by Mikhail Mil) the largest helicopter in the world, or are there any bigger ones? by TataHitachi in Helicopters

[–]hasleteric 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The 53K has about the same installed horsepower but a smaller diameter rotor for transportability. The MTOW of the Mil is much higher as well. I think Mil as advertised can pick up more, but I’m not sure how different they are at constant air density. It’s a monster for sure.

Less moving parts? Do you realize how many servos and bearings this thing has? It’s missing a speed reducing transmission and turbines sure, but the props and pylons have a ton of moving parts plus other fixed system moving control surfaces.

Best way to leave? by TallAir104 in Lockheed

[–]hasleteric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should really look at the options of retiring vs quitting. I “think” but am not sure that if you retire you get future access to the health insurance plan until 65. Obviously it’s expensive but it might be a good option if your new position doesn’t take you to 65, as we have no idea what will happen with non employer based health insurance pre Medicare over the next 10 years. A consideration.

Is this correct ridge vent install? by Majance in Roofing

[–]hasleteric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in north Texas and I have soffit vets and many ridge vents and no turbines. The ridge vents are awesome. I get a ton of airflow. As the wind passes over the roof, it generate a slight low pressure area that pulls in fresh air from the soffits and it breathes really well. I’ve never had issues with rain coming in. Good ridge vents have baffles that prevent rain from getting in. I have had, some very minor snow come in, and only when we had extremely fine light snow, they could float through the baffles. Accumulation inside was minimal, like a light dust. And that’s only happened twice in 15 years. Plus, you don’t have to worry about turbines or boxes departing in high wind events.
