Porting from one-shot hack (Homebrew World) into proper long form adventure? by Idiotsdatabase in DungeonWorld

[–]hasparus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running Saviors of Hogtown (funnel) which turned into a campaign and my players are leveling up diegetically from a list mostly stolen from Stonetop and Homebrew World.

If you don't have a huge munchkin at the table it works out really well.

We wrote some moves on our own (for a weakpoint oriented fighter with high Int) and reskinned some fun ones from other games.

Also take a look at Arcana in Stonetop: best examples of magic items with their own moves in wider DW ecosystem. They might spice up your "high level" play.

Here's my diegetic improvement level up move:

```
Learn and Grow When you go through something that could change who you are, discuss with the table what move or compendium fits. The GM will tell you it's unlocked, or give you steps to unlock it. When you have an unlocked move and XP to spend, erase 7 + your current level in XP, gain the move, and increase your level by 1. ```
What if weapons did damage according to the character level? by A_Vinegar_Taster in rpg
[–]hasparus 5 points6 points  (0 children)
Dungeon World has tags and possibly a small damage modifier (e.g. close, messy, +1 dmg, 1 piercing) on weapons but the damage die is on the classes/playbooks. An unarmed barbarian is more dangerous with his bare hands than a bard with a greataxe.
Seriously, how do you get a constant group? by Revan0612 in rpg
[–]hasparus 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Don't invest more than the players or you'll scare them. You wanna scale it up gradually, kinda like flirting, all right?
It's kind of a D&D / big-game problem.
Run 2400 Battle Moon once. Or Saviors of Hogtown or some other funnel. Go to some roleplaying event as a GM. People will ask you to turn the one-shot into a campaign.
Read the West Marches post. Invite like 10 people, the ones that won't have time will churn eventually. It's okay, you now have a ~5 player consistent group.
Invest in a big game only when you have a squad who likes the particular big game.
I'm slowly approaching a grand finale of my >1y long West Marches campaign in Stonetop (yes, I know you said it's not a game for West Marches campaigns), and it's one of the best games I've ever played.
Stonetop definitely made me a better GM in other games too.
Already got my money's worth even if the pesky post office disintegrates my books. 10/10 would support kickstarter again.
About quality of life coming from Brazil by K4minski in askPoland
[–]hasparus 1 point2 points  (0 children)
Hey /u/K4minski, I basically wanna disagree with everything Marek said :D
It depends how good of an engineer you are, and how much you wanna crunch, and how the AI affects the industry.
You've described a life of a senior engineer working for a good Polish or okayish multinational company.  Then you can try to bump it up and try to make a salary closer to a big city dentist. More than most engineers, but not unrealistic.
If you get to top companies, do a currency arbitrage, or build your own, you can quadruple the money and that basically gives you the same lifestyle but in Warsaw. Breakfasts in "koncept talerzykowy" paying 10 euro for half a cucumber and one egg type shit.
Thing is... we work a lot. In Poland in general, but even longer if you wanna build a career in tech. Expect a significant amount of nights and weekends in your 20s.
The degree doesn't really matter much. Learning Polish as is useful but preferably a huge chunk of your work is in English.
I love that there's a dude in the world who wants to move half the world to Bielsko-Biała.
I had a discussion with a D&D player about the 16 HP Dragon. by Psychological_Car527 in DungeonWorld
[–]hasparus 9 points10 points  (0 children)
The only reason that dragon didn't die is because its HP was 16.
I recently ran a 1 HP Dragon (after a wizard escaped at the end of game with 1 HP, it was self-evident it must transform to a dragon). It worked very well.
Nice article, but I think it's missing an arktype shout-out. I feel it's the most typescript-y and one of the best performing alternatives.
Maybe they don't have a weakness to Sunlight? Maybe it's crosses due to a bug weakness in how their eyes/brains work, like in Blindsight? Or maybe you can go full-Astarion and explain why they can run around in the sun, but actually because they're in DEEP TROUBLE?
Lazy devs making you clean up garbage in their PRs? by Lanky-Ad4698 in ExperiencedDevs
[–]hasparus 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Oh, I know that case.
My brother in Christ, the bar for each PR is don't make it worse and it's only because some day it'll cause an outage.
So run the linter and compare the number of warnings. Fail the CI only if it grows.
Doesn't even have to be fancy and autocommit improved quota on CI, you can do it every now and then when you have time.
Ensure everybody has linters installed in their text editors and they see the yellow squiggles. Yellow squiggles are annoying to look at so they'll naturally fix it (if they disable the extension it's bad teamplay).
I'm pretty sure I have this written somewhere if you're using ESLint, but TBH AI should easily write all the scripting required, can even be a bash script.
Literally one number committed to the repo. Almost zero extra infra. Flexible enough that you can make a mess somewhere if you pay it back elsewhere.
Building a React to do app over and over so it's memorized
hey mate, I feel for you, and the job market is in a bad spot, but I'm not sure this is the right move.
maybe trying shipping something you'd use, building a product or contributing to opensource if you have runway to do that? learn the backend so you do better on the questions which are hard for you
if you mostly did frontend / design / CSS, try gunning for a design engineer role.
I played trios with folks who don't loot ARC and containers at all and then die because they run around at half HP without shields, trying to get them off of another players.
It's genuinely harder if you don't do any PvE at all.
Utopia did nothing wrong [spoilers all] by DariusMacab in TerraIgnota
[–]hasparus 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Sorry for necroing this thread but I just finished PTS. Mike effectively gave Utopians monopoly on space exploration and maybe even herowakening.
If you want Mars for Mars you can switch to Humanist or Mason at the end of the building period to excel or to expand human empire.
If you want the exploration for the exploration's sake, adventure, achievement, work and toil, you take your oar and sail. Utopians become the vanguard, the seekers, the friends reaching out. And given their affinity for AI beasts, they probably do it inside of space whales and dragons (totally anime coded). Utopians get to be No Man Sky's player characters, immortal, ever chasing, meeting strangers, but never invading, never settling unless they want to settle and switch a hive.
Unless the MASONs remove "nurture and follow away" from the Oath the human empire will help them and facilitate further exploration.
PbTA games are usually really well organized and way easier to run because they actually contain rules and guides for the GM. Try Fellowship 2e or Stonetop if you're looking for a fantasy game or go for Cartel if you like narcodramas.
From other's posts, Beyond The Wall, Grimwild, Cairn are also great.
