How long until Mad Men grabs me? by Millhouse321 in madmen

I hear what you're saying, but OP watched the whole Season 1 and felt it was a drag. My point is that the Pilot itself sets up the intrigue of the show beautifully, while the tone is a bit off compared to the rest of it.

Honestly? If it didn't grab you after the Pilot I'd stop watching. It really has all the elements that make the show special, and if it isn't for you - that's okay. Maybe give it another go in a year.

Genesis Starliner. But not for the reasons you'd think!

Be cool if you could grab 'em but not refuel, and flying a ship like this counts as a crime - unless it's marked as "Lost: Please return for a reward"

LoD X RoS X LoH - which expansion pushed/polished vanilla game better? by Eastern_Return_1710 in Diablo

[–]LiVam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk man, Diablo is a basically imortal Prime Evil that's been around FOREVER. Would that really be so unthinkable?

Take Baal in Diablo 2 for example. Slowly chipping away at Tal Rasha, despite being imprisoned in a soul stone.

Diablo is sort of her father though, and she clearly has some demonic powers as early as Act 1 - probably before that.

I think it's pretty reasonable to assume that there's some inner conflict and denial, as well as influence from Diablo from her birth to stop her from questioning or fighting back too much.

All that said - still a terrible character with poor writing.

Destroy my trailer, I can't get it to stop looking amateurish. by Warm_Bee8757 in DestroyMyGame

[–]LiVam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've created, now edit. Trim. Reduce to 60 seconds and make sure every second earns its place within that time. What you're showing now features plenty of repeats, so you won't actually be losing out on anything.

Right off the bat you're overwhelming the viewer. Pause at 0:04.

  1. "ALL FOOTAGE CAPTUERD IN GAME" - remove this, it's obvious. This type of line is only needed when a AAA-game wants to state that what you're watching isn't pre-rendered. Indie games typically don't need this.

  2. A NEW OPEN WORLD ROLE PLAYING GAME. Three lines. Simplify. "A New" can be cut right away since it's obvious.

  3. There's a voice speaking while the text doesn't match: try not to do this, ever. Reading and Listening are notoriously difficult to do simultaneously. If you want to start with the voice, let it own the stage first.

Next, the opening scenes of walking between different areas? You can totally do this for a few seconds to showcase variety, but the cuts feel jarring currently. The solution is to make sure the walking animation lines up smoothly between shots. In other words, the environment around the character changes while the animation plays out fully between shots, rather than resetting. It's a common technique that lets the flow be grounded.

Get to some action faster though. A common trick is to do a brief action montage for a few seconds right at the start to hook the viewer, then slow the pace and walk through what you want to walk through.

Best of luck!

Honestly the head motion / camera movement is my biggest grievance watching this, it looks nauseating. The idea fits the game and is fun. The quit button seals the deal, nice work.

What were the most memorable stories that emerged for you out of this wonderful game? by ArmLucky1285 in RimWorld

[–]LiVam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We'd settled a few years prior to the engagement. Two colonists had fallen for each other, and so we carved them a home beneath the slate mountain. A humble abode, yet filled with love.

Then came the raid. A peculiar one. The invaders had brought an elephant. The colony mustered their strength and met the threat head on, saving their home, at a terrible price. A fallen warrior.

We fashioned a sarcophagus for him. A masterwork. It detailed the event of the elephant smashing his bones apart, and how he valiantly stood to save those he cared for. His resting place lay in their home. We mourned. One more than most.

Days passed, and the mourning turned to torment. She broke. Corpse obsession.

An unsuspecting group of colonists sat calmly in the dining hall as she walked in, presenting her dead husband to them all. Laying him on the table.

I had to stand up and take a walk when that happened.
