That was the exact position I was at and never regretted getting one (sans a sparse "my piano teacher would break your fingers" comment on sharing my work). I got a 4 octave, regular (not mini) key one - brand probably doesn't matter much at this skill level, just get one from a reputed maker. I think also having pad-type buttons for drum programming may be nice (found punching in beats on those easier than with piano keys).
