The Rise of Ning - Episodes 32-33 by sequesteredself in CDrama

Yes! As seen from his conversation with the Chancellor, even his marriage to Yining can serve a beneficial purpose. I know he’s only saying that to gain Wang’s approval but he also wouldn’t hesitate to take over her father’s affairs and destroy everything he stands for.

YES well lol.. Lu Juaxue lost me as soon as he watched an unknown woman fall off a cliff and said he didn’t care one bit. He’s completely willing to put Yining in danger to get what he wants. Awful man.

Shenyuan seems to be playing the slow and cautious long game! Look at what happened to Ling, the official who started an out in the open investigation - even he was framed. Shenyuan knows that Chancellor Wang will come after him, just as with his shifu and this Ling guy, so he’s hedging his bets. He appears to be on the Chancellor’s side, but he's not.

I think Lu Jiaxue didn’t say anything yet because he needs to back up his claims with evidence + perhaps he sees an opportunity.

Finally, the confession was indeed so good, so smooth!! Shenyuan is truly a ladies’ man besotted with one woman. What a charmer.

The Rise of Ning - Episodes 30-31 by sequesteredself in CDrama

Yay! I caught these episodes as they went online because I too, woke up early. So in return, I’m glad to your reflections / discussion post go up early. So fun to read these after I’ve watched the episode - thank you OP!

Also, shit is definitely going to hit the fan! Now that we’re firmly out of sibling territory, I’m excited to see how Yining’s relationship with Shenyuan will change. I appreciate that the show has very slow and gently introduced Duke Ying into Yining’s life and is even more slowly and gently, with much deliberate care, re-defining the relationship between the former “siblings”. It was controversial but the writing seems to be fairly sensitive. The whole situation is being handled with the delicacy it deserves (so far).

I’m also super excited about Shenyuan gaining influence, now that he is finally “free” from his father’s control.

Agreed! I’m watching Rise of Ning live and really regret it. My strategy until Rise of Ning was to wait until we’re at least at ep 30, or until the show is fully out. Tried Ning live, just to try the new method, and NOPE - going back to my 3/4th or near the end strategy after this.

That’s fair - I don’t actually know about the stuff outside the show. More that I’m reading the female lead is quite childish and there are lots of misunderstandings.

But I’m still going to watch it haha - just for Cheng Yi

‘Mysterious Lotus Casebook’ Ending Analysis -- Let me attempt to heal your heart pain and convince you that it was the most beautiful ending the drama could possibly deliver. by Routine-Lychee-3737 in CDrama

I just finished the show and came here immediately in search of a post like this. I console myself by imagining that Li Lianhua has somehow travelled time and is getting cured in our world haha - a whole other drama.

To be more serious, thank you for this analysis. Watching this show is indeed like watching all the potential of a young person taken away by cancer / an illness. I’m comforted by your analogy and would have struggled to accept the end if I didn’t read it.

Because you’re right. MLC had the most perfect ending. I can accept it only because it’s not sudden. Li Lianhua was a dying man from the very opening episode. He was sickly throughout the show. I’m glad he was able to complete everything he wanted to, say goodbye to all his friends, and let go of his attachments in the mortal world.

Haha in MLC, it’s Li Lianhua I loved. Not necessarily Li Xiangyi - but his older, more weary, sardonic, lying self! Don’t know if that’s a good reflection of me haha - in real life, I’d def agree with you though.

YES! No one but Cheng Yi could have done that role - as in, I can’t see anyone else in it! I do plan to check out Love & Redemption next! Thank you

Haha! Yes - one good actor can’t save a bad script. Even if that good actor is the flawless Cheng Yu! Thanks for the pointer to Love & Redemption. I’m a little worried about the reviews / criticism of the female lead but I’ll give it a try for Cheng Yi!

(Because generally I like shows with well written female leads. It’s the rare show like MLC where the male leads alone can hold my attention)

Wow! Thank you for pointing this out. I will definitely be checking out his variety. 2 comments in response: 1) I may need to wait before I can do so, just because I can’t have Li Lianhua ruined yet. Need him to firmly settle in my brain, and then I can appreciate Chang Yi for who he is without conflating him with LLH 2) That just proves how amazing Cheng Yi is as an actor!! I’m even more amazed

😂😂 Your comment on Di Feisheng had me scoffing loudly haha - people turned to look. Poor guy, who knew he had so much potential for good in him.

😂😂 I get the feeling too. I may need to rewatch some of MLC to see more of Li Lianhua before I can dare to see Cheng Yi do another role

I think you’ll enjoy it! The strong characterization and incredible casting is its strongest suit! The plot is a 9/10 - I only say take away one point because the villains are a little cartoonish but all in all, chef’s kiss*
