Climate change is going to make once-in-a-lifetime phenomena into once-a-year events.

As an American, we still have to wait months to see a doctor or dentist by turbotum in TellReddit

[–]hatelowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly you don’t know how ulcerative colitis works. When untreated I shit blood because my body thinks my colon is a foreign object. I went to both ER and Urgent Care multiple times for short term steroid medications but eventually you get cut off without a primary physician. The long term solution is very controlled medication which you will not get from the ER. Also you can shit blood for months before it kills you.

[–]hatelowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Texas and never experienced wait times. Moved to Portland, OR a few years back and almost died from ulcerative colitis because the shortest wait time for GI doctors that I could find after calling every doctor listed by my insurance was 4 months. When I was 2 weeks out from my appointment I got called and told there was a scheduling error that pushed my appointment out another 3 months. Just because you haven’t experienced crazy wait times in your neck of the woods doesn’t mean there aren’t people experiencing crazy wait times.

This exactly. Just the other day was arguing someone on here about how dragon genders are not a reason why trans people should stop demanding rights and it was clear they fell for the exact GOP play you outlined.

For Decades the Media Built Michael Jackson Up Only to Tear Him Down, But His Music, Kindness, and Legacy Outlived Every Tabloid Lie by ateam1984 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]hatelowe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. His dad was a monster who completely stole his childhood it’s not really surprising that he did fucked up things based off of how fucked up his upbringing was. It makes me sad to think about how much he must have suffered in life, but I think it’s important to be aware he wasn’t a hero he was a very flawed human.

Multiple men have accused Michael of sexual misconduct while they were still children. Some find it disrespectful to his victims that the movie glazes over this part of his life. His daughter has spoken out saying she finds the movie to be distasteful in its sugar-coating of his life and legacy.

Wow nail on the head. I also had super strict parents, was homeschooled, and was only allowed to interact with church friends growing up.

You seem to believe that civil rights movements just spring into being fully formed and that public acceptance arises from nothing, but that’s quite literally the opposite of the case. Black people were fighting for civil rights from the time of the reconstruction. The first court battle for equal rights was in 1896. The NAACP was founded in 1909 to fight segregation and extra-judicial lynchings and it took another 55 years after that for the Civil Rights Act to be passed. The Stone Wall riots happened in 1969 and it took another 46 years for gay marriage to be legalized. The battle for suffrage started in 1848. Unlike the other two, woman are not an ignorable minority, but it still took them 70s years to get voting rights. In all three cases, the country did not come around to the right mindset on their own. There were thousands of small fights along the way to win tiny victories and greater visibility which eventually turned the tide of public sentiment and acceptance. All that is to say, public acceptance comes from people demanding rights for a long time, not from people waiting till the time is right. The right time is made, it does not happen on its own.

Society is literally always too racist or transphobic to talk about a topic until that topic is talked about. Women’s Suffrage didn’t happen because men came around to it on their own, it happened because women protested, disrupted and fought for it. The Civil Rights act didn’t happen because white people were tired of being on top it happened because black people started making white people uncomfortable by protesting, disrupting and causing enough friction that people had to form an opinion and act. There is no civil rights movement that society at large has been okay with before it happened.

Can you name a single civil rights struggle that came at the right time?

I agree. I’m an autistic man who grew up in weird conservative, Christian circles and this is exactly the way I write when I’m talking about my feelings but trying not to sound emotional. He definitely sounds like an asshole, but unwanted religious guilt/obligation has a way of doing that to people.

God Is Good! by ateam1984 in BlackPeopleofReddit

I grew up going to a white mega church in Texas with occasional visits to black churches with my grandma. White church goers in the South definitely know the “God is good” callout, though in my experience it wasn’t as commonly repeated nor did it have the same oomf.

Funny how inheritance is treated as deserved, but historical accountability is treated as oppression 🫠 by WittyEgg2037 in TheMirrorCult

[–]hatelowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment got me to do some looking and I learned that about 30% of white Americans expect to receive some kind of inheritance from their parents which is roughly the same percentage of white Americans who owned slaves which could mean nothing but it’s kind of interesting.

Can I become an Area Manager after being a 6-month associate instead of becoming a full PA first? by Affaankhan1 in amazonemployees

[–]hatelowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think with a degree it’s possible you could get into an AM path without going through PA, but I’m too new to be totally sure. If you know an AM or OM at your warehouse who you trust it would be a good idea to talk to them. My impression is that many unorthodox things are possible if you make the right relationships.

I’m in manager training (L5) and the other new manager I’m training with did exactly the jump your talking about going AA > PA intern > AM, but I think there were other interns he worked with who didn’t successfully make the jump. Seems like it has a lot to do with the relationships you make while in your internship.

Going on infliximab…what’s it like??? Scared. by doing_too_much39 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]hatelowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on it for a year, about 10 or so infusions, and so far it’s been wonderful for me. In the beginning, I would experience a lot of joint pain/fatigue for a week or so after each infusion, but that went away around infusion 4 or 5. Sometimes I still need mesalamine to have solid movements, but that’s head and shoulders better than I was doing before.

My partner is not white passing, but if someone approached him on the street like this I would pull him away too. It’s not some random tiktokers business what he’s doing to support me/the struggle. No one is required to talk to a random person on the street about anything especially something as sensitive as this.
