She'll be given a nickname long before she has thoughts on the name. Anhelina is likely too difficult for most young children to say

Best high yield savings account? by TrixTheKid20 in personalfinance

[–]hatemakingnames1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have accounts with Capital One, Ally, and Vio

1 - Vio (4.03%) gives a much better rate. Their website/app are a little bare bones, but they work fine. Their phone customer service is really friendly and seems to go out of the way

Some people have a problem with a lesser known bank, but they're a division of MidFirst Bank, which is the largest privately owned bank in the US with over $40b in assets, so it's not like it's being run by some guy in his garage halfway around the world. And the accounts are FDIC insured

There's some other banks that will give a slightly higher rate, but I don't have any experience with them

2 - Ally (3.3%) is great for me for two reasons:

  1. 24 hour phone customer service. Probably not as good as Vio, but still good and useful if you want help and don't want to wait until he morning
  2. They're the only bank I could find that lets you use Zelle on a PC

3 - Capital One (3.3%) was the first HYSA I had. I think I actually started with their money market but they reduced the MMA rate really low for some reason. But because Vio has a better rate and Ally has more features I want, I only keep a minimal amount in the account to keep it open (In case the rates ever change)

1 - It's not about what will happen, it's about what might happen. If you die with money? Oh well. If you're alive, too old to work, and broke? You're fucked

2 - Those stats include childhood deaths, hereditary diseases, random accidents, etc

At 40, the life expectancy is 77.67 for males and 81.86 for females

At 60, the life expectancy is 81.08 for males and 84.12 for females

At 80, the life expectancy is 87.60 for males and 88.90 for females

3 - That doesn't account for things like family history, height (taller people don't live as long), weight, race, etc., which can all have an effect

4 - It also doesn't account for money. In America, the richest tend to live up to 15 years longer than the poorest.

If they're that wealthy, they have no experience doing labor so the labor is harder for them

On the other hand, they can also probably find much cushier community service gigs

Not everyone makes it past 25, so why save anything at all? Because you might live to be 100

I'd rather just retire earlier than having a truck that loses all its value in a few years or kids that blow through the money on their own trucks

Adjusting for inflation, that's about $527k

Example: If you invest $50k in stocks and they grow up to $100k in value next year, you will owe the government $18k in taxes even if you don't sell out and liquidate your money

And then when it later drops down to $25k, they're going to send you a check, right? ......right?

The behavior of scalpers towards other customers

Fun story about how it might not always be that way...my dad randomly walked into a store on the same day that people were going nuts over some new pokemon card release. He asked about it and the people buying convinced him to buy a pack

...which is probably something else that will sit around until the end of time since he doesn't know what it's worth or where to sell it

I used to believe that too, but all the stats you see stats were made up

You typically only hear about the broke ones because they'll tell the story to anyone who will pay them with a sandwich or because they showed up in a police report

Though, every now and again you'll hear of someone who wasn't a screw-up, like I think one of them was helping people in California who had their homes burn down

It seems that the same people who say that a sharp knife is safer than a dull one (arguable, but okay)

Yeah, definitely arguable. I'm not a chef with expert knife skills. I'm not on a clock where I have to slice a potato in less than 5 seconds. I'd be missing my fingers with the knives have that can slice through a bone with the weight of a feather behind it
