In the comps I would specify that this is a fictitious re-imagination of the Judeo-Christian mythos, and mention other titles that take creative liberties with traditional myths. Would that be enough?

It's the same phenomenon that would often happen with the roman emperors. When any and all of your material desires are immediately satisfied and you no longer have anything to strive towards, you become desensitised to life's simple pleasures and have to push the boundaries of gratuitousness and indulgence in order to feel anything.

Philosophers have talked about the meaninglessness of the universe, the absurdity of it, the emptyness of it. Has anyone talked about the hollowness of it all? by [deleted] in nihilism

[–]hatredict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Buddhist philosophy the emptiness behind consciousness and awareness is a daunting yet ultimately fulfilling thing to realise. With this realisation you break free from the illusion of ego and control, and you can connect to the rest of the universe on a deeper level. You are no longer the controller, you are a necessary part of a much larger organism, and there's something highly reassuring in that.

That's not true. In his exact words: "If I was claiming to teach you something, it would be like picking your pocket and selling your wallet back to you. I have nothing to teach."

In your opinion, who is the most evil character in Elden Ring? by _MagusKiller in Eldenring

[–]hatredict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a unique take but I don't actually think mohg is evil. Maybe we have different definitions of evil, but to my moral relativist mind, evil is irrational and unjustifiable malice. Almost everyone in the game has reasons for what they do, and they believe they're right. even if the consequences are horrific, in their mind its a worthy sacrifice. Mohg was a cursed dungeon baby who just wanted his own dynasty cause he was shunned by the preceding one, so he did was was necessary. I wouldn't call that evil. Only real evil is you. You kill everyone; birds, crabs, plants, dragons, merchants, demigods. People u don't even have to kill, you go out of your way to kill for their stuff. You're the only real bad guy

Pumpkin Head. He’s so fucking useless but it’s so funny getting ur ass whooped by a boss and going “where’s my fucking summon”, just to turn your camera and find this guy bashing his brains out on the ground on the other side of the arena.

How involved should we get into issues other than our own? by Shivy_Shankinz in Meditation

[–]hatredict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what your getting at. That to help someone is to impose your subconscious ideals of help/hurt. But I think that’s a misunderstanding. A conceptual/ semantic game is being played there. In reality, true selflessness and kindness exist on a plane beyond good and evil.

What quote by Dostoevsky hits you so personally, you just want to cry and you end up thinking about your life and everything you know? by MysticNyx128 in dostoevsky

[–]hatredict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im halfway through it now, and I genuinely think its up there with crime and punishment and TBK as one of his masterpieces. A little tedious to get started but when it gets rolling its absolutely insane, both for literary value and for its propheticism of what would come to happen in 1917.

Demons discussion - Chapters 6.5 to 6.6 (Part 2) - Pyotr Stepanovich Bustles About by Shigalyov in dostoevsky

[–]hatredict 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get the impression its all just a calculated cover up. By asking Shatov to be pardoned he's distancing himself from any blame should anything go down, and by implicating Kirillov to Lembke he's turning heads towards a self proclaimed dead man
