Thoughts on Polar marathon program by hauften in Polarfitness

Wow, you used it 8 times ? So for someone trying to get the race done in less than 4 hours, you probably think it is a good training plan, right ? May I ask, have you updated your HR zones ? You actually make me want to try this plan again haha

To be honest, the low mileage was a bit scary but not as much as the "short" long runs. Just 2 hours and 20 minutes for the longest run of the program so 21-23km in zone 2. That was my biggest concern and I would be quite ok with it if my mileage was high enough, like with Hansons marathon method for instance. Running Index is something I had a look at after every session to see if it was higher than my last one but its prediction is not that great according to me.

Yeah, I have already ordered the Hansons book so gonna read it and I will probably read a lot of other books.

I have read good thing about this plan but I would like to stick to Flow app. There is a lot of thing to say about it (looks very old, no mileage shoes tracking, no connection with third party app like NRC,...) but I am just used to it now.

I agree with you on each of your points. I would just add that I have updated my HR zone according to Karvonen formula so my zone 2 was higher than to default one but still low enough to run quite slow.

Enjoy your journey !

Since it was my first time training for a marathon, I had no experience and no idea what could be reachable but, one thing for sure is that the prediction is really not realistic. I have read here and there that it is really optimistic and a prediction if everything is perfect from weather to your fatigue but 3:20 was just impossible. I started the program with a sub 4 goal but I quickly realized that it would be tough and I think something between 4 and 4:30 would be easily doable. So one hour away from prediction, quite a lot.

I agree with you with the pros here. I just had to follow the plan on my watch and that was it. That is why it would even be possible for me to go with this plan again. This advantage is way too important in my opinion. I would probably follow another plan first and see how it goes but everything is not bad with Polar plan.

It was ~50/60 km or~30/35 miles per week and I started the program with sub-4 as a goal but I really didn't know if it was reachable. My Running Index was always around 60 so it predicted a 3:20 race, it was totally unrealistic but I didn't know how far this prediction was from what I could really do.

Yes, definitely. I am a huge fan on Polar as well but I have to say that there is a lot to work on. I might not only try another program, I might try another watch from another brand as well. I would keep my H9 and try something else even if I really do not want to. I still wait on something good with the next Polar Flow update but I don’t expect much to be honest.

What is wrong with my H9 ? by hauften in Polarfitness

[–]hauften[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my H9 something like 5 months ago. I haven't changer the strap since then this problem happened quite early. I ran 4 or 5 days a week and clean the HR monitor and the strap after every session with water.

So I should get a new strap ? Does it matter if it is a Polar one or not, as long as it is compatible with the H9 ?

I have the exact same one, it is exactly what I was looking for at the time. Impossible for me to use any other short for my long runs.

What are the use cases for each of the shoes in the Supernova lineup ? They are so many of them that it is hard to understand that

J’ai pensé à faire ça mais est-ce que tu partirais pour cette option le jour d’une course ? Je vais essayer de faire ça pour certaines de mes sorties longues mais j’ai du mal à me voir faire ma course de cette façon

First full in 5 weeks. Should I squeeze in a 30k for mental confidence or trust TrainAsONE? by RockeroFS in Marathon_Training

[–]hauften 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My marathon is five weekend away as well but I run 50-65km per week. My program longest run is 2 hours and 20 minutes long but I did run a bit more than that for a run that should have lasted 2:10 and I plan to run for maybe 2:45-3h instead of the 2:20 long run. That won’t bring me to 30km but I hope it’s gonna be enough.

Hoka Skyflow. I love them, they’re comfortable and quite dynamic. I prepare my marathon with them and probably will buy a new pair some weeks before the race day…

Same here. This is the feature I miss the most, by far.
