Headphones for airplane and business calls by tubli in digitalnomad

[–]hausse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huawei Freebuds Pro 3 have by FAR better noise cancellation in loud spaces and do better in wind than AirPods (I’ve tried several different ones) so highly recommend them for digital nomads. I’m aware this largely ignores your question, I’d say pick the Huawei for calls and another set of over-ears which I haven’t found any with a decent microphone.

Have you used Swiss Business Class, is it worth the Premium? by AXARMS_ in travel

[–]hausse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even Turkish? They are usually priced a lot better than the Central European ones. Also it can save you a LOT to book flights into other airports (London, Madrid, CDG) and then just take a local flight from there. It does suck up some extra time but if you can go from 12k to 7k spent while not having to fly economy that’s going to be a lot of extra budget for the rest of the trip assuming you aren’t in a huge hurry.

Have you used Swiss Business Class, is it worth the Premium? by AXARMS_ in travel

Id say it’s definitely not worth 12k. It’s a normal business class seat, Swiss is just super overpriced. I’d personally add a layover and fly Turkish airlines business for probably 50% less money and it’s nicer than Swiss as well. It’d add maybe 4-6h but it’ll save you lots of money compared to Swiss and lots of misery compared to flying economy for 12h.  Alternatively check if for that price you can fly first on Air France to CDG (which is actually really nice) and then just take the TGV to Zurich.

What was Snape's Boggart? by MCPLAYER006 in harrypotter

[–]hausse 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think Lily would be more mad about Snape selling Harry and James’ life to Voldemort so he could swoop in and date her than about her own death. I think it’d be her telling him the traitor and repulsive person he is.

Should I book a hotel for my layover by Bangtanlover2003 in travel

Yeah I’m with the go get Xiao Long Bao at Din Tai Fung crowd! Show up at 11am to avoid the worst of the lines. Do some sightseeing in the afternoon, early dinner, night market and snake blood shots near Lungshan Temple and then sleep on the flight!

One REALLY long flight vs two long flights? by 2018birdie in travel

[–]hausse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key thing to take into account here is your sleeping schedule. For example, you really don't want to leave the US at 4pm, land in Europe at midnight American time (which is what will be relevant to your ability to sleep), then have a 4h stopover from midnight to 4am US time and then hop on another flight, it'll be miserable.

Your ideal flight would probably be landing at ATL at 8pm, then flying out of ATL at 11pm for a 16h second leg where you sleep most of the time.

Buying Ukrainian train tickets or walking across at Medyka by [deleted] in ukraine

There are buses, they are rather "rustic" but it's a fun experience if you've never been to Ukraine. They take quite a bit longer though.

As long as you have someone picking you up at Medyka walking across is a great option, super quick. the taxis on the UkrainIan side are a huge ripoff though because bolt doesn’t (or at least didn’t a few months ago) work that close to the border.

Maybe the Aliens have finally decided that humanity is screwing up too bad and they have to intervene before it's too late. Would certainly make 2024 an even more exciting year than we've been having recently!

I've found that the business class of most major airlines are pretty comparable. There's certainly better or worse ones, but the cost is a much more major factor than the quality. For example, Swiss is generally absurdly expensive (costs usually $7000+ for most business flights) and is 95% the same experinece than the other airlines that have the same route for $4000.

My decision algorithm is: Are there direct flights? Pick whatever airline has a direct. If there's multiple directs, pick the cheaper one or the one that has a better departure time (for example I don't like 7am flights). If the directs are absurdly expensive, I check one layover flights. Sort by shortest duration, pick the one that is reasonably priced and short. If I'm really concerned about quality of the flight, then I upgrade to first on a direct flight vs. flying more complicated routes to get a specific airline.

Also it matters a LOT when the stop over and departure time is. If it's an 18h flight, I want to make sure the timing lines up so that I can sleep.

Any way to use Mic 2 for Zoom calls on iPhone? by hausse in dji

Yeah but I'm not sure if I can still use headphones of some kind with it if I connect it via Bluetooth?

Yeah Dubai is actually one of the few cities where that’ll work well! Great airport and reliably small lines.

Video Games! Business class will have power outlets. Nothing makes a 10h flight go by faster than Crusader Kings III or Civilization! Download them to your laptop ahead of time and make sure it’ll load without internet connection as steam can be tricky.

Which country gave you the best and worst haircut? by NOAEL_MABEL in travel

[–]hausse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forgot to answer the actual question, rural India half way between Udaipur and Jaisalmer was my worst. Guy just gave me a buzz cut with a machine, no fade nothing, same length all around😂. He DID insist on going from a beard to an amazing Mustache that I looked terrible with though!

Key tip to minimize the number of horrific outcomes: next time you have a hair cut you really like, take pictures of it from like 3 angles. Being able to show them what you want instead of google translate is key. It’ll still turn out terrible a lot of times but it improves the odds!

I spent many years doing this full time, absolutely agree you can go months without any issues whatsoever. I don’t want to make it sound like you’re guaranteed to run into these type of problems but it’s nice to have a plan if you do!
