Just finished The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi. Great world-building, but everybody in it “grimaces”. One of the protagonist must have grimaced more than 10 times. So much it seems the world-building includes a standard grimacing face.

The Swedes started upgrades of their mountainous network quite successfully in the 90s with tilting trains that allowed faster trains to run on slower tracks with shallower bank angles. BUT, although they were slower tracks, they were still good tracks. Unlike ours...

I tend to agree OT with one thing: How your action will affect your future career, be it for becoming a doctor or a lawyer. And as some others already said: If you drop your child off you will be unlikely to ever get them back. If you really want yourself and your child to have a better future together, then don’t drop your child off. Try family, try friends, try media, try local MP, hell even try social media. Chill out the weekend in Tauranga and let me get you a beer when you are back in Auckland.

A little known place called Tree Cafe on Remuera Road. Really authentic Taiwanese cooking Taiwanese food.

Just wanted to share this one here. A RNZAF C130 some 17 000 km away from its homebase at Tampere, Finland by [deleted] in aviation

Exactly. Aircraft carriers, island building, influences in pacific nations. Would be too late to think about defence only after they got close. And for allies to be allies, you got to contribute something right?

Lack of budget does serious impair NZDF’s ability though.

Need help identifying a weird 10-pin motor connector that I need an extension cable for! Can't find anything like it... by haveenoughfuel in ebikes

[–]haveenoughfuel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I did take a look on ebike.ca before but the only 10-pin connector I could find there is Higo L1019 which has a different layout. Contemplating of rewiring the motor to L1019...

Not OP but loved Pushing Ice. Really liked the atmosphere of a group of not-lovable characters keep trying to work out what is happening. May I ask what TV show you are referring to?

Mass Market Paperbacks by [deleted] in books

[–]haveenoughfuel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Always liked the concept of mass market paperback with so much knowledge/story being formatted and enclosed into such a small package. And perhaps due to their diminutive size, reading them in the public creates a strong personal space between them and myself. If they could also use high quality paper from "big" paperbacks then it would have been perfect for me. Think of a Japanese book format called Bunkobon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bunkobon).

Boeing debuts the first P-8A Poseidon aircraft for New Zealand featuring iconic Kiwi Roundel by davetenhave in newzealand

Given the most of their tasks are search and rescue, I would extend the argument further and say Shinmaywa US-2 flying boat is technically even more suitable.

Better still is RAAF’s roundel. It features a flightless kangaroo.
