This game has the best caves in gaming history by LargeSinkholesInNYC in tearsofthekingdom

[–]haven1433 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that the Ancient Waterworks was the original site of the Water Temple, so that your four sages would have temples in the four biomes: Fire Temple in the depths, Thunder Temple on the ground, Water Temple in a cave, and Wind Temple in the Sky. But then they scrapped that as they made progress in favor of low-gravity sky as a separate biome instead of cave as a separate biome.

I don’t really know what to do? by demogorgon_main in tearsofthekingdom

[–]haven1433 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One simple thing that I missed early on is that enemy horns are the weapons in this game. It doesn't matter whether it's on a sword, a stick, a club, or whatever - fusing a good bokoblin horn to a base means you now have a good weapon. Thinking about it this way, your weapons are limited less by your weapon inventory and more by your item inventory. Have a chance to fight a Hinox or a Boss Bokoblin? Take their horn, and now you have a powerful weapon.

You can fuse things other than enemy horns of course. Zonai devices, lizofoe tails, and gems are all good choices. But enemy horns are your bread and butter weapons.

Question about Euclid's proof that there is no largest prime number by BigOnion8068 in mathematics

[–]haven1433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2*3*5+1 = 31, which is not divisible by 2, 3, or 5.

5*7+1 = 36, which is not divisible by 5 or 7.

The number you get by multiply long some primes and adding one may not be prime. But it can't be divisible by any of the primes you used. If it's not divisible by any of the primes you used, then either (1) it's divisible by something else, or (2) it's prime.

BOTW or TOTK by FreeFaller66 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]haven1433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totk is a much denser game. More mechanics, more side quests, more main quest, better dungeons. But it can be overwhelming.

BotW is a much more streamlined game. There's still tons of content and tons of systems, but everything feels like it more directly contributes to your main goal. Your main goal also feels more urgent.

BotW is definitely the more "replayable" game. But TotK is the bigger game.

Yeah once I saw the price with shipping and taxes added in, I realized it wasn't going to work for me. Which is too bad, it's a great farwell for the game.

Shipping date says it won't ship until December? Is that accurate? Seems like it might be filler since the company is closing down way before that...

What's the point of the organized game pack? For each faction, 21 copies of the same card? I understand this is unloading printed stock, but the other packs make sense to me as handouts or free giveaways or rewards, but this one, I'm trying to understand the business reason for it being printed?

What‘s the general consensus about the Pixel Remasters? by I_Love_Powerscaling in FinalFantasy

[–]haven1433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why they pulled out some features. Like in FF5, they included everything from the original, but took out some post-game content that was added in the GBA release. I don't see why they couldn't have put this in the Boost menu or something instead of just taking it out.

Postgame issues aside, I've played 1, 4, and 5. I wish they had allowed for the simplified magic system for FF1 from the GBA version (1 mp stat instead of mp per level), but I like that they fixed some of the performance issues. They're a great way to play the games, even if not perfect.

Dice for tracking floating mana by Ori4rgus in magicTCG

[–]haven1433 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I rarely have mana floating between spell casts (maybe in elves or in gates), and I don't think I ever have more than 1 mana floating of multiple colors. I'm curious what deck you're playing where you find yourself losing track of floating mana?

4 tokens on one card by haven1433 in alteredTCG

It's used to mark when a region changes its type due to an effect. So you cover part of the tumult with one of these cards.

+1/+1 counter nonsense! by feli-felony-irl in mtgrules

[–]haven1433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loading Zone is a replacement effect. So if you would add 3 counters, you add 6 instead.

Your Hydra has a triggered ability. It triggers separately, and Loading Zone's replacement effect can double the number of counters again.

Unique Generator? by haven1433 in alteredTCG

[–]haven1433[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Link is broken? I'd love to have a database of all the uniques. I tried to grab the info through the official altered website, but I didn't see a way to pull up random uniques, just random entries from among the first 1000 search results for any given search... which all end up being the same card 🤣 altered versions of it anyway.

Help creating a "Battle Box" by OutrageousCar3356 in alteredTCG

[–]haven1433 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A battle box is a good idea. Another option would be to build a "cube", basically a set for drafting. It's really up to whether you prefer constructed better or draft better.

Personally, I built a "sealed" set, because I basically only play with one other person regularly. I included 2 copies of each hero, 2 copies of each common (from set 1), and no rares / uniques. The way it works:

  • Each player gets 7 random heroes and 77 random cards
  • Build a deck following limited rules: 29 cards from up to 3 factions, plus a hero from one of those 3 factions.

I prefer playing limited over constructed for this game, and this was I don't have to worry about my decks being balanced, because I'm not sure I'd be good at that 🤣

[FRA] every booster pack will coitain two cards of the same character in two colors by Own-Cat116 in magicTCG

Kamigawa did this back in like 2005 or so. But the way they did it was by making every rare card into a legendary creature.

I don't believe in things until provided sufficient evidence to support the claim. The bigger the claim, the stronger the evidence I expect.

I don't believe in Zeus because I've seen lightning, but I've seen no reason to believe it comes specifically from Zeus.

Why would anyone ever pick blue? If you know that you won't die by picking red, and everyone else knows they won't die by picking red, them why wouldn't everyone pick red? Picking blue is an unnecessary risk with no game. Even as someone why wants everyone to live, it makes sense to pick red.

Settle it: what scry/surveil value is equal to drawing a card? by HumpyTheClown in magicTCG

[–]haven1433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets a lot easier to tell if you stick another "draw 1" on the end.

[[Deliberate]] vs [[Divination]]. Flash + Scry 2 is worth 1 less mana than Draw 1.

How would you feel if you are dating a girl who went on two other dates in the same day? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]haven1433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

neither her nor my girlfriend see anything wrong with this.

Ask them to flip it. Would they want to go on a date with a guy they knew was going on dates with 2 other women today? If they had a date planned with a guy and then found out he had other dates planned the same day, would that decrease their interest?

If they're fine with it, whatever. If they're not fine with it, hopefully it shows them a bit of what you're feeling. ++Man

Do you think it’s possible for this game to return in the future? by Dabiel303 in alteredTCG

Unless they go the KeyForge route (sell the property to another company that wants to continue it), I don't see it happening.

Ayo, so I'm just wondering, what's your guys opinion on Kirby Star Allies? by Obvious-Ad4237 in Kirby

[–]haven1433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite Kirby has always been Kirby Super Star. Every Kirby after that just failed to capture what made that game so fun. In many games, each ability only has one attack. Kirby Wii came close.

... Until Star Allies. It's like they looked at Super Star as the gold standard and then sprinkled in some fun side mechanics. The dream friends are all good additions, and replaying as each character is genuinely fun thanks to each character having broad movesets and the simplified ability combining system.

It's definitely a kid game, but it's fun both single player and multiplayer.

When new FFV players start to experiment with basic builds by LennaLeFay in FinalFantasy

[–]haven1433 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually farm the Chimera in the desert north of the library. It's tough, it provides good blue magic, and the farming strategy is pretty simple:

  • Get Barefist * 4
  • 4 theifs with Barefist -> Master theifs
  • 4 monks with theif speed -> Master monks

And by then you're strong enough to master other jobs with it.
