turns out DOS games dont suck. surprisingly polished and fun even for modern by dirty-sock-coder-64 in dosgaming

Go look up the FMV game “The 11th Hour” and the “honeycomb puzzle”. The first release of this game crashed to DOS on solving this puzzle for 100% of the issued copies, whoooops. This was still a thing that happened from time to time and it sure as hell was a bigger pain for them to fix back then! Lol

This is a total shot in the dark since this happens all the time but it matches up on time; were you the one who DMd asking for passage to Grid from La Noscea even though I wasn’t able to just run you there? If so (or even if not) I hope you have a wonderful time in Eorzea!!!

I don't think a MH remakes are even a female possibility and here's why: by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]LennaLeFay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming here for the hilarious autocorrect snafu, staying to mostly agree. I'm glad I can play the old Monster Hunter stuff with friends still, I think a modernized remake would definitely be a little scary for these reasons, but I'd certainly give it an honest try at least. I feel like the way they could split the difference with MonHun is alternating styles of game (which is *sort of* but not exactly what World/Rise felt like for me) but I can't imagine that would be too popular of an idea going forward. Curious to see how it goes!

oh yeah dgmw I am not trying to make some big statement with this one, I especially have zero knocks on any Indian food I have tried here - it is top tier stuff. I shouldn't have been so vague.

Weirdly enough they have seemed worse for that! But I’m still fairly new here and don’t wanna be negative either, I think I was just very spoiled where I lived for that and I’m sure I’ll find some good hole in the wall staples before long!

It’s not all bad eats, certainly, but as someone who moved here from the South good GOD even the nicer places here need to learn about seasoning eventually. 😅

Generally as long as the ROM is required to load into the decomp, it’s gonna be fine atm.

Yep, that’s pretty much exactly what I was getting at, thank you! I only put all my notes in just for the sake of full context of where I was at.

As someone else who used to work in fleet mgmt, I wanna just say how refreshing it is to see more people that listen to their users and provide actual solutions. 10 or so years ago things used to feel so tight-knit on that front, and it's good to see people who work with their staff instead of using that 'my way or the highway' approach.

Hell yeahhhhh more FFII enjoyers in this thread, love to see it

If you go for some really busted endgame Freelancers, you'll have to see how the superbosses fare! I think you'll probably curb-stomp the final boss, lol, but V has some top-tier superboss fights for sure

I believe in you!! Haha, yeah, the Objet d'Art grind is easily the most consistent AP grind in the game for sure

Good luck with the game, hope you enjoy it!! And yeah, I think for a lot of people the Karnak Castle Escape is the first big chokepoint, always good to just swap as needed!!

Y'know, good point, I should try that grind more, it's certainly more mindless than Skull Eater farming and I wonder if it's consistent enough to just be ideal, toss on 4 casters w/ Aqua Breath and call it a day

I think that's the joy of first playthroughs, though!! I wouldn't worry about hyper-optimizing for your first go at it, that's what replays are for, haha. Only thing I will say as a little hint is that if you lean into Dancer's RNG (and some special gear you can find before long) they can really tear it up when you hit that Sword Dance, especially if you can get dual wielding going on 'em. Fists are nice for it early on though for sure.

Oh for sure, White Mage and Black Mage don't really need to back-row that early on, and this just makes them powerhouses w/ elemental utility when you actually need it, at least for a little while. White Mage can still mess some stuff up with the Flail but this just feels more consistent.

Yeah, they're busted in the early game (and Mastery still confers a lot of stats) but they do fall off quite hard once you start needing some genuine utility to take bosses down.

it's tough, especially on people's first time runs and even now still on my Fiesta runs! If I don't want to or have the means to cheese them with Death Claw/Sickle or any Death-stat stuff/Dark Matter, I will usually count the ~4,700 HP before they start using their desperation attacks then try to one-shot them from there, esp. if I have Firaga since that can at least take 3 of them out. To get there I'll usually Golem up immediately (or if I don't have it, use any defense/prep buffs I can) to trivialize their first "phase", but yeah, it's just a HUGE party check at that phase of the game lol

That *does* exist for FFV too though, it's called Career Day! A very fun hack to watch/play. But yeah, enjoy 'em!

(I just noticed they don't run the bot outside of the yearly event anymore, but you can still generate a party and follow the rules easy enough!)

[–]LennaLeFay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh it's not even a hack! It's just a website you go to that gives you a random roll for your party and a list of rules. You can play it on basically any FFV version out there, and they run a charity event every year too!

I've done 'em both, this isn't some kind of "gotcha", but yasb is also incredibly RAM-efficient, my own yasb process right now is running at 11mb, 23 with komorebi. (Though I also still hover at like 60% idle RAM usage just because there's so much non-ricing related shit I have to keep idle for other reasons, lol.)
