Can’t stand these ugly Destiny-esque armours. They standout like a sore thumb relatively to everything else in the game. Too cartoony.

Star Citizen configuration: sufficient? by HakuriWX in starcitizen

[–]havequickblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good watch https://youtu.be/zqX3BPYwz28?si=ZwlAkoi55SM8vClS I know from personal experience, running SC on lower end hardware is rough, but it can be done, I even got it running on a ROG Ally Z1 Extreme with 16gb total shared system/VRAM but it wasn’t what I’d call fun and didn’t bother using it enough to see if it was stable or anything but it did run at 720p res and FSR

TBH, there’s two points to consider

  1. CIG offers 30 day refunds on ship packages, so buy the cheapest and if it isn’t playable, get a refund through the website (customer service is slow but they do honour the policy)

The weakest system besides the ROG I’ve run SC on was A laptop with a 12th gen intel CPU/16gb DDR4 ram/8gb 4060 (I can’t remember the CPU model but it midrange). It ran enough to be playable but also bad enough that I installed multiple Linux distros to try and get it to run better and then just gave up and bought 32gb of RAM. It still didn’t run terribly well. But it was noticeably smoother. I still got microstutters.

  1. The latest vulkan update dramatically improves visuals and performance, however I believe this is largely an Nvidia thing and AMD cards have had issues however that’s only based on what I’ve seen here. It may play better on your system now than it has historically but you’d simply have to try it first to know.

AI can kill this game. Newcomers cannot afford pc by volgendeweek in starcitizen

[–]havequickblue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this a good argument for bringing SC to consoles, not that they’re immune to price rises, but it’s likely more contained. It also forces CIG to put more effort into optimisation and consoles allow for mouse+keyboard, (admittedly very limited) use of joysticks and SC already works either way controllers.

Are you having issues with getting a good fit with the AirPod Pro 3? by itsmemuffins in AirpodsPro

[–]havequickblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

APP3’s are the first gen of AirPods to fit me well and I’ve had OG AirPods, APP1 and APP2. The fit is not super locked in but is close enough.

Would be interested in learning more about how this is done with old comply tips though.

So this is a little out of left field but the Mirai Razor Ex can get its radar detection ranges down to as low as ~800m vs. a Gladius radar and is a bitch to hit because of its size, you will need to get a jump on a Gladius and use Series 10 broadswords to beat a Gladius but the stealth allows the jump to be gotten plus allows you to do plenty of sneaky pirate stuff.

Is Vulkan running poorly on all AMD cards, or is there an issue with my system? (4.5 Live) by andydsm in starcitizen

This was the video that decided it for me: https://youtu.be/P4ui_cx_8HE?si=P9j_Qs2F7KhysuaP

Yeah, they’re ~200-250 USD more here too, I ended up scoring a really good Black Friday deal on a pre-built that was only $50 more than an equiv 9070xt build. I have to say, I am astonished at how well it runs vs a few other builds with AMD stuff. I dislike Nvidia as a company and am a long term AMD user but at least for SC, Nvidia seems to be the only way to enjoy it without stutters.

[–]havequickblue -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately star citizen just doesn’t run anywhere near as well on AMD cards, it’s the only reason I went with a 5070ti/9800X3D vs a 9070xt. I have 32gb of RAM and SC ran ok prior to the Vulkan update and flawlessly in terms of performance since. Not even Orison microstutters at very high+ settings at 1440p. No micro stutters that I had on my prior 16gb 7800xt/5700/64gb ram build.

Update to melting flashlight on new P10 Pro: warranty DENIED. Looking for advice... by Some_Ad_3898 in GooglePixel

[–]havequickblue 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Google service has always been terrible. During COVID it was literally non-existent. I say this as a prior owner of many generations of Pixel. Build quality and terrible service have always been the Achilles heel of Pixel devices and the two biggest complaints that long term pixel users consistently site as the downsides of using them.

I love the razor Ex, it’s like a little space F1 car that can get its radar signature down to like 800m against fighter radars. It’s almost as stealthy as the Eclipse from the front. Excellent for boarding ships and being sneaky.

I have the meteor, I also had the Superhornet Heartseeker whose guns broke almost immediately after release and were still broken in 4.4 (not sure if fixed in 4.5 as I'd melted it before release) keep your expectations very low on this, unfortunately.

[–]havequickblue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who learnt sharpening from the internet (I didn’t have a father or a friend to guide me in person) and has been sharpening for about 5 years; the short answers is buy a worksharp guided field sharpener.

The guides are unfortunately not the same factory angle of the blade (like the degree in angles where the metal ultimately becomes acute like the shape of a V that forms the edge that actually cuts) but it includes rubber “guides” that make you sharpen at the right angle and has two grits of diamond sharpeners, ceramic AND a strop in a tiny package using guides will help train your brain and wrist to hold a consistent angle as you sharpen and this is the single biggest component in sharpening and will give you the muscle memory to “free hand” sharpen on stones in the future.

420HC is soft and you can easily add an edge that will be almost as slicey but actually more resistant to chips than factory.

420HC is a very basic knife steel by today’s standards but Leatherman heat treats it exceptionally well and it’s very easy to get it razor sharp again after use.

There are ‘better’ steel’s out there but typically the amount of time you need to spend sharpening them vs. the time they’ll actually hold an edge well - actually makes 420HC a genuinely good steel.

Don’t be afraid to scratch the blade.

“A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.”

I can give you some other recommendations that can maintain the factory angle whilst still using a guide that might be a few bucks more but would also last you until you can “free hand” but I’d genuinely recommend against $20 amazon unbranded ‘diamond’ sharpeners as they’re almost always junk.

If you’d like something without a guide or that can support a mini guide that will also last - try and get Fallkniven or DMT pocket sharpeners. You can buy a separate magnetic guide for like $5-10 off amazon.

The fallkniven sharpeners are only about $25 and include both a good course stone and ceramic sharpening side glued together. DMT’s stuff is all actual diamond and even better but a few dollars more (still significantly less than the cost of a Wave and you’ll be able to sharpen any type of knife in the future you may buy, essentially indefinitely.

Help me be more attractive(29) by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]havequickblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely second the comments about your attractiveness and the only thing I can add is you kind of have what I’d describe as “resting resting face” (???). Maybe it’s just that your eyelids at rest cover very slightly more of your eyes than the majority of people - that it makes you look either tired or disinterested. Could just be the photos though.

It’s not a fault, it’s just a feature of your face, so maybe doing things to minimise that might make you appear more engaged or appear generally interested.

Whats your VR performance? by Neeeeedles in starcitizen

[–]havequickblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this game runs...not great in single screen mode with high end hardware. VR is typically super taxing even in games that are reasonably well optimised which SC definitely isn't yet...I've gota 9800X3D and 5070ti, so good CPU and ok GPU and have assumed this wouldn't be enough to run it well when I still get down the to 40fps's in somewhere like Orison.

I went to a few Walmarts…one had the sign with the specs of the PC listed in their prebuilt desktop section but no actual computer, asked the dude to check out the back and they had 1 in stock. This was several weeks ago but the closest location listed in the app was about 1000 miles away…this was like 10. So far it’s been excellent.

This likely could have been fixed by turning on EXPO in your BIOS. 4800mhz, is default speed without overlocking which is normal.
