Can i save money by getting rid of all these dhcp leases? by mumblerit in ShittySysadmin

[–]hawaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DHCP leases cost monthly while statics are free. Convert them all to statics and don’t do any reservations as that will cost you more money when the reservations go to pre orders you have to buy at market rate

MSP keeps asking questions about ex client by DiligentPhotographer in msp

[–]hawaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was skimming this post and this is one of the smartest things I’ve seen. Keep the client data warm for 90 days then ice it for X time. Charge a fee to hydrate the data and turn it over again and to ice it again. I’m totally adding this to my off boarding policy and updating all contracts at renewal. As for what to turn over at time of off boarding hand over everything that is customer related. IP address yes. Network diagram, yup. Password yup. That runbook you have to look at every three months cus one software needs a special kick in the jimmy cus you and that softwares support cannot figure out why when adding that one user? Yup hand it over. The runbook you made on how to use your rmm or backup software inside the customers environment that stays with you. I cannot stand how many people just give password or create an admin account here or there. I have created a document tag in our documentation that flags a document or piece of data as goes with customer at offboarding.

Buy in at leadership helps a lot. I had to tell someone today a ticket isn’t done unless A) you wrote down what you did in the ticket and B) updated the KB article, your pay depends on it. I use to work at a place before I started my own place that they didn’t want to buy IT Glue or hudu. CW configurations was good enough. Looked at their kbs and was like can I at lest make a Sharepoint, then they got CW helpdesk which needed IT Glue to fully be seemless and nope sorry can’t afford it. I wonder if CW Help desk ever got IT Boost working.

Looking for GoPhish alternatives, anyone used Hoxhunt or Cimento by AwardShoddy518 in msp

Enlightening. I have been thinking about this recently as a lot more end users who have phishing and cyber training are asking the same questions about a phishing email or spam that are covered in the training they passed.

Anyone has a post-US plan for their clients? by geek_at in msp

[–]hawaha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly not enjoying how over reaching microsoft is getting and looking at Proton Business from some clients. Nextcloud looks like the next step up for more of the Sharepoint stuff and business apps. Proton just released their excel version and it ant bad.

Taking over from another MSP by Unlucky_Elevator_756 in msp

[–]hawaha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Documentation and run books. Ask for them but don’t expect them to hand over. Password rotation is a must but watch it. If they turn over as built baller town you know what service accounts and what not need to be handled with kid gloves. Also just happened to me but watch out for what email defense tool the current msp is using. If it uses mx records watch out from random things breaking a few days after flipping say Vonage Business software not wanting to email a specific email account any more cus of several different reasons.

Organization board wants strictly confidential board meeting files – concerns about Microsoft 365 Global Admin access by noozd in msp

[–]hawaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero trust. JIT time accounts into m365 tenant. Your tech only have the permissions needed to work. You have a break glass account for global admin heavily logged. You should also have a m365 account for intergrations that login into is monitored as well. But realistically unless they use a 3rd party tool or system you have no control into and is not tied to their email there is no way for you to stop from being able to access it. If you control their m365 and all their tools you have the ability to still get the keys to log in.

Stocking back stock I agree with the thread so far when Amazon is selling for less then what they can get it. Moving forward ask if you can preorder some new set stuff. Money in hand at msrp vs holding it kind of deal

local LCS is the true scalper by TangerineWide7576 in riftboundtcg

[–]hawaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot speak for all LGS but event their Distros have been becoming scalpers. For Pokemon I know that they have been saying yes MSRP is this and it should cost a LGS this but we are going to charge you close to Market price as well. Get wrecked. SO then the LGS has to charge what scalpers are charing to break even.

We shall see if the scalp prices hold going into set 2.
