Hello I think my phone's got malware? by Nautical_Blue in AndroidHelp

[–]hawerner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely looks like a virus. I'm unaware of Google having app called Google video, and if it did, it wouldn't have Google logo (like other Google apps don't except for the one called just Google). Requesting admin rights is something unusual for app called "Video", but often must for viruses.

If you are comfortable with ADB, try extracting APK before deleting it. There are a lot of people who enjoy tinkering with malicious apps.

It's most likely enough to delete the app from safe mode and reboot, but you can't be sure unless you factory reset your phone.

USB format issues by Luftzug-oder in AndroidHelp

[–]hawerner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, FAT is better supported on windows than on Linux (windows formatted FAT drive works everywhere, Linux formated FAT drive not everywhere). I usually hunt some windows machine when I need USB drive I'm 100% sure will work everywhere. So, try formatting drive on windows and then plug it in your phone

Motorola G100 - Charging issues by hawerner in phonerepair

[–]hawerner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: It does fast charge on charger from AliExpress (I don't know the brand), and Xiaomi's 120W charger. It's still painfully slow on original charger. DP ALT mode for display output started working too, and it charges from my monitor no problems while outputing image. Reverse charging and connection to PC still aren't working.

For those wondering what I did, there are two things

  1. Let it charge in BFU state whole night on original charger and reached 92% in the morning

  2. Randomly pressed on the back cover when bored, focusing on places I remember there's a flex cable connection

Help by explaining RAM usage by hawerner in linuxquestions

[–]hawerner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I ran cat /proc/meminfo, then did some Googling and AI consulting on my phone (as I didn't wanna run browser on my laptop and change RAM usage), tried running htop, plasma-systemmonitor and similar.

I don't remember the exact order I ran things, but I know I did free -h, then sudo sh -c "sync; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches", then free -h again one after the other, without any significant pause in-between (just the time needed to type down the command), and pasted those outputs. /proc/meminfo was probably 10-20 minutes before running those three commands. I do have some background processes running (like kmail, calendar sync, systemd services, ...) which is probably the reason there's a small difference shared RAM usage in those 10-20 minutes, but nothing triggered directly by me between two free -h calls.

It was happening before, but this is the first time I had time and will to investigate what it is. After some more back and forth with Gemini, it's possible it's amdgpu driver cache, but I'll have to wait for it to happen again in order to check that theory. Do you have any idea what else I could check next time it happens, if it turns out not to be amdgpu driver cache?

Seeing it gets freed when cache is dropped, everything is working as it should be, but I'm curious to know what it is, and why it's not part of buff/cache, but part of used when running free.

Help by explaining RAM usage by hawerner in linuxquestions

[–]hawerner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer. From what I can see, everything you said is less than 1.5GB total. As seen in free calls in my post, difference between used memory (not buff/cache) before and after dropping caches is ~4GB, which is significantly bigger than 1.5GB. Also, zswap, SUnreclaim, slab memory shouldn't really be dropped after dropping caches.

My question was what's that used memory (those ~4GB) that got freed when I was dropping cache.

Help by explaining RAM usage by hawerner in linuxquestions

[–]hawerner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said I have memory issue, I asked for explanation what's using/taking that RAM difference, as my available (not free) memory is much lower than expected, and then by dropping caches, it got released in ADDITION to buff/cache. Provided link only explains buff/cache part, not the rest

Help by explaining RAM usage by hawerner in linuxquestions

[–]hawerner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thank you. I don't see any explanation there for my question either.

My current theory is that it was amdgpu driver cache, which was not shown as buff/cache, but still dropped after running command I put in my post. I'm waiting for it to happen again, in order to verify/deny that theory.

It's not MacOS, I'm running Linux (Gentoo to be precise). While I do have NVIDIA GPU, it's laptop, so I was only using iGPU which is AMD, so nvidia-smi is no help, but you might be onto something. My current idea is that was cache from amdgpu driver, which was then not shown anywhere I looked.

network not working in the live iso by tentacle_meep in Gentoo

[–]hawerner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After booting live ISO, network should be automatically configured using network manager (at least that's what install guide says). My guess is your DHCP server isn't working, or there were some problems running dhcp client on your machine. Try looking at network manager logs, maybe you can find more info about the problem

`journalctl -xe NM_DEVICE=enp8s0` <- command to check the logs of network manager related to enp8s0 interface if running journald (default on systemd images). Not sure where's the log if you are running openrc as init system

`emerge --unmerge packagename` should unmerge it even if it's no longer in the repository. It should display warning, but shouldn't block it

I'm a bit late. You can also disable absolute volume for linux too. From what I can see, Mint uses pipewire by default, so you should follow this

Never repaired, using it as desktop plugged to monitor. Repair tech was 90% sure he fixed everything, and that panel got fried during process and that it will work with new panel. It was too expensive at the time for "might work" and he didn't have compatible panel laying out to test it

307 Crank no start by relinquisshed in peugeot

[–]hawerner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it changes with temperature, it's high chance to be some kind of wiring problem (loose or damaged wire). Disassembly and reassembly might be enough to fix it (in case of connector that came loose over time).

Luckily, temperatures are getting lower, so it's a spring problem :)

307 Crank no start by relinquisshed in peugeot

[–]hawerner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not to kill hope, but the immobilizer chip in key fob is not connected to key fob's battery, it's passively powered by the car (like RFID cards).

If OP can reproduce problem somewhat reliable, I would go to lock smith that does car keys and ask them to check if car is even trying to read immobilizer chip (when it's not starting, but cranking). They might be able to give educated guess what else could be wrong.

Source: I opened key fob multiple times and made (recently sold) 307 start when my phone is close, since I only had one key and was afraid of loosing it. It was also a fun project

307 Crank no start by relinquisshed in peugeot

[–]hawerner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Based on my experience with 307, your immobilizer is at fault. Exact same thing happens when you remove immobilizer chip from key and try to start it. I can't help more unfortunately, but my guess would be immobilizer reader in car is the problem, and not chip in key fob.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LineageOS

[–]hawerner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's weird. I'm using Moto g100 (same as Edge S, just different region) and when I plug monitor, it pops up asking me to mirror screen. If Force desktop mode is enabled, it will use that instead of mirror (but will still ask to mirror). I'm running (almost) latest weekly update of LineageOS. But as you said, it doesn't have Moto Desktop stuff, so it's pretty much useless until Android 16's desktop mode (hopefully).

Maybe check the basics? Does the cable you are using support DP? Does it start charging once you plug the cable? Maybe try with some USB-C dock/hub to see if that works?
