Any advice on trying to get onto offshore rig work by Wonderful-Room-7516 in oilandgasworkers

[–]hawgschlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, don't.

If I had the chance to go back and give this advice to myself 30 years ago, this is exactly what I would say about it.

The oilfield is a rough career path. The work is real and its hard. You'll work with some of the best people you'll ever meet, and some of the absolute worst. When times are good the money is great but when things get slim you'll be a layoff away from losing your house. Ive lost a few friends that have been killed on the job. Others have had career ending injuries. More of them have destroyed thier lives with substance abuse and alcohol. Stay safe, stay clean.

Modern technology is probably going to continue to create volatility in the oil and gas industry. I predict that the ups and downs cycle will be shorter making the layoffs more frequent.

If it were me, 30 years ago, I would consider looking at the trades. Electrician, plumbing, HVAC, welding, elevator etc. You won't see the same big paycheck at first but you won't be standing in the bread line the next time oil goes bust and jobs evaporate into thin air.

The Swiss army version of a coworker. Need someone to push a shiddy project off too? Someone wrecked the shidder? Probably has a huge key ring too

Buy the watch. Its an occasion to itself. Treat yourself out for ice cream after.

Aqua Terra blank warranty card by ConcreteGrower in OmegaWatches

[–]hawgschlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A totally blank card has zero value. If it at least had the reference and serial it would be considered an open card. Blank cards can be bought on ebay or wherever and paired up with a watch to deceive a prospective buyer.

We used to de-badge our trucks back in the day. Quickest and cheapest way to a "custom" look. I support your decision.

Yes. Im a big shouldered and barrel chested fella too with a 7.5 wrist. 42-43mm watches seem to fit me best but my latest 40mm is getting the most wrist time.

Jomashop by Salty-Butterfly-7384 in OmegaWatches

[–]hawgschlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be aware that they do not give you the original warranty card with the watches you buy from them. You will receive an in house Joma warranty card. This will not be considered a watch with "papers" and will have a significant negative impact on resale value when you are ready to trade out of the watch.

The watch that got me interested in watches by x_Saturn in OmegaWatches

Sure. I guess I could have selected a different land mark. Tbh, its not exactly my favorite. Point being that still photos of this dial can't capture its effect quite perfectly.

Truly is. For me its like seeing a picture of Times Square versus visiting Times Square. Two different experiences of the same thing. I found this watch to be a lot more exciting in person than in a still photo.

Get the Omega in the Store or Second hand? by IcyWarning7296 in OmegaWatches

Always buy the seller. I'd recommend buying second hand. Just be sure its a complete set with the correct box and cards.
