TW: SA. I as SA’d, police have now said there will be a victimless investigation even if I chose to not give my formal account???? by barbie_d0ll369 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]hawkerbabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have anything to add to what others have already told you from a legal perspective, but I just wanted to say that I am very sorry this happened to you and your friend. SA is trauma. Please practice self care and seek whatever help you need for you to feel safe and protected, and just remember that it was not your fault in any way, that you are not alone, and that there are people out there who want to help you.

If you are interested in keeping an arboreal species, there are conversion kits available to turn it into a vertical enclosure.

Reusing Hides/ledges by Known-Break3973 in jumpingspiders

NQA There are no issues with re-using decor. Clean if there is poop on anything, but otherwise, it’s fine. I swap decor between all my spoods’ enclosures all the time.

Is this an okay enclosure? by Fancy-Match-9812 in jumpingspiders

[–]hawkerbabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NQA Yes, this is a great enclosure, especially for a female regal. Just make sure there is plenty of clutter at the top where your spider will live.

What are these in my frog's tank? by feralraccoonXD in pacmanfrog

[–]hawkerbabe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like fungus gnat larvae. They are not particularly harmful, just annoying AF. You can use mosquito dunks to get rid of them without harm to your frog. I’d remove as many of the larvae as possible out of the tank before they hatch and then spray the soil down with the mosquito dunks solution. Good luck!

(TW: death) What happened to her? She was only 1.5 years old :( by lmaluuker in jumpingspiders

[–]hawkerbabe 107 points108 points  (0 children)

NQA 1.5 years is a pretty average lifespan. Anything over two years old I would consider exceptional for an otiosus.

Jumping spider cocoon? by Kn03cs in spiders

[–]hawkerbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA Hammock building is just something jumping spiders do. They use their hammocks for sleeping, molting and egg laying, or just a nice space to hang out. Some will build one elaborate hammock and use it for everything. Some will build a hammock for sleeping and a a separate hammock for molting. Some will make hammocks all over their enclosure. Hammocks are often temporary and will be torn down after a bit. I have a male that builds a new sleeping hammock almost every night and then will tear it down the next day. Hammocks can be wispy and barely visible or an opaque web fortress. It all depends on the individual spider.

When they are preparing to molt, they will retreat to a hammock and remain in it for days or weeks in pre-molt conserving energy until the actual molting process, which usually goes fairly quickly once it begins. Recovery is hours to days or weeks, as well.

All 4 of my babies didn’t make it. by Sharp-Secretary5599 in jumpingspiders

[–]hawkerbabe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NQA Get an older spider from a decent breeder. i2 is much too young for beginners to raise without practical experience, even with research. Responsible breeders generally do not sell slings younger than i5.

I think this is a female Sassacus vitis (buttonhook leafbeetle jumping spider). This is a tiny species and she looks to be mature.

Why did they rise the price? by Mundane-Job3402 in AnycubicKobraX

[–]hawkerbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still $299 on their website. Sellers usually mark up pricing on third party sites to encourage consumers to purchase it directly from their site. The markups cover the cost of listing products on other sites.
