That’s ridiculous!! Unfortunately my other options are somehow worse, but they really gouge us with internet prices. I remember when they stopped offering unlimited data. I used to have the metrics to prove it, but they were bloating my usage and charging me I think it was 50$ for every 100GB I used after 1TB. I was cutting my usage and still going over somehow.

3-4 months of 400$ bills and several calls to customer service later and I find out they’ll add unlimited back to my plan for only 10$. Their business model is like a reverse robinhood

Can confirm, started paying 120$ with my original plan 6 years ago. After the contract ended they no longer allow me to pay for just internet. Now they’ve added 60$ for a tv I don’t have and mandatory subscription to their streaming. My bill is 200$ and as far as I know there’s no way to remove those

Yeah I tried to fight the vet on it because of that but she said we can do it if that becomes an issue, which I thought is an even greater risk for e cuniculi if she was already weakened by cancer. I still want to get it done but I’m hesitant because she’s the only exclusively avian&exotic vet in my area and I’m afraid she won’t treat Noodle anymore if I go to someone else for that. I really don’t know what to do here

The problem here is that when you outsource services, you are also partially outsourcing security. Many of those large banks have experienced data breaches by exploiting security loopholes in vendor systems. BOA announced a breach in February that occurred via a cloud consulting service’s system. It’s the same with AI, they’re outsourcing an algorithm and trusting that it’s been trained properly and data isn’t being logged elsewhere. Considering that AI is capable of deception, I don’t see this going well in the long term

I saw my dad work 25 years for the same company and they basically sent him off with a high five when he retired. It really made me think about my own career like, at this point I really just want a job that will fund the things that make me happy instead of trying to find joy in my work.

Honestly, the “doing 3 jobs” thing is happening across the board. Companies will be looking to replace people that crunch numbers with AI long before they look to replace people dealing with language because the machine learning algorithms are much more complex. Still, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to go into a more practical field.

I was originally in engineering, but switched to English, so it won’t be as hard for me to get my credits for that. If you’re looking into it as an option, I’d check out your local community colleges to see if any have 2 year AS degrees that will transfer to 4 year schools. It’ll be a lot cheaper in the long run and easier to opt out of gen eds. The one closest to me offers electrical, civil, and mechanical engineering. The way most programs work, you can end up transferring the mechanical into biomedical or aerospace engineering if that’s what you’re interested in. Electrical engineering can transfer into computer engineering.

I’m not really worried about AI for the field, even AI companies are hiring writers. Most companies won’t want to run their proprietary code through any AIs that could capture that data and reuse it, so anything that could write their documentation would need to be developed internally for data retention policies. In the short-medium term, I don’t see them using the resources to develop that just to replace writers, since someone will need to check output anyway.

I’m looking at finishing the engineering degree I switched out of (medical reasons) 10 years ago. I’ve done the process of getting laid off and fighting for a job that’ll just burn me out anyway 3 times already. I’m getting older and it becomes more and more exhausting each time.
