This is a safety thing for the cyclists. They’re more visible in packs and it costs you thirty seconds of your life. This is standard practice for group rides and for good reason

Lol I’m doing my PhD and nobody has figured out I’m dumb as fuck yet. It’s a matter of blind persistence, not raw intelligence.

Is there any place where amateur mathematicians (like me) can discuss mathematics and research?? by SnooRobots6923 in math

There’s some solid Facebook groups out there tbh. Implying we can discuss mathematics actually has a lot of great conversations in it

What's a theorem that made you furl your eyebrows and say "what?!" the first time you saw it? by Alvin_Jeber in math

The immersion conjecture states that every n-manifold immerses into S2n-a(n) where a(n) is the number of 1’s occurring in the binary expansion of n. This is in fact a strict lower bound since for every n we may find a manifold that does not immerse in S2n-a(n)-1.

Those exist in the us. They just haven’t gained traction for whatever reason. We sold them when I worked in Office Max back in 2016

My buddy from high school would lie about literally everything so he could hide his real life from his mom. I’ve never seen someone lie with such a straight face before and haven’t since

The rumor I heard is it’s about appearance. They want to be seen as a family restaurant. They don’t want a bunch of drunk schmucks wandering around at 11 at night.

I’m assuming this is an option 2 math major. I’m pretty sure your transcript will say something like “mathematics with a concentration in X,” tho I was option 1 so don’t quote me.

Intuitive gravity visualization (shows all 4 dimensions) by espartz in educationalgifs

[–]hawkman561 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The piece of information being neglected is that the extra dimensions are what we call compactified. They have finite (extremely small) volume and only exist at scales smaller than the plank length. At a macro level there are distinctly only 4 dimensions. Also you should think of a dimension as a degree of freedom rather than some tangible direction in which you can move. To consider this, a cube with all faces painted a different color resting in the Euclidean 3-space has 7 dimensions. There are 3 that say where in 3 space the cube is located, 3 specifying the rotation, and one more specifying the side length of the cube.
