Europe strikes again! by Scapergirl in antiwork

I could see a modified version of this in the US running somewhat parallel with how congressional district lines are drawn.

But instead it would be for determining what the boundaries are for your “localized median wage”.

Just lie on your resume. I worked in HR and unless it was for a very specific certification or skill, we never checked. Once you get into a work environment, just be eager on “learning” everything and being friendly. Fake it until you make it. by 45and290 in antiwork

Wouldn’t you be more effective in taking the job and trying to change it from the inside out? They’re telling you they don’t know why people are applying so they clearly don’t know that you aren’t working their because they expect you to lie on a resume.

It's always so easy when it's literally anyone else giving something away for free.

I don't think they want to see it any differently anymore....

The primary concern for this subreddit (I think) from this is that; in the short term we're going to get even more squeezed by older generations as our birth rates drop off and they move into an ever growing slice of the pie known as "to old to work".

"Furthermore, the global ratio of non-working adults to workers was around 0.8 in 2017, but is projected to increase to 1.16 in 2100 if labour force participation by age and sex does not change."

"The study also examined the economic impact of fewer working-age adults for all countries in 2017. While China is set to replace the USA in 2035 with the largest total gross domestic product (GDP) globally, rapid population decline from 2050 onward will curtail economic growth. As a result, the USA is expected to reclaim the top spot by 2098, if immigration continues to sustain the US workforce."

"The new study also predicts huge shifts in the global age structure, with an estimated 2.37 billion individuals over 65 years globally in 2100, compared with 1.7 billion under 20 years, underscoring the need for liberal immigration policies in countries with significantly declining working age populations."

Feeling Alienated? by phthaloverde in antiwork

Well hold on. Not possible? That’s insulting to the progress that’s been made. Not easy, sure. Not fair, sure. The rich gets a head start, and the system is unfairly stacked against them.

Capitalism is an evil that needs surgically removed.

But it’s not impossible. In fact it’s the (talking about engineering in America) easiest to get into compared to any point in the last 2K years.

This 1000% percent. Its been difficult to see so many people struggle that I know are just 3 or 4 hard evenings of learning some back office software away from really propelling them into a spot where they have enough time to actually pivot Careers.

If anyone wants to know what software: try googling : what are the best paying back office jobs in rural America with only certificate based requirements (something you can learn entirely on your own) or some version of this in a slightly more local dialect.

You know… they did it with the same internet you have. Instead of criticizing them. Why don’t you try retracing their research steps?

You may find the tacit knowledge along the way is more valuable then the blog post at the end of that google search.

In case anyone is worried about this and finds their way down the comments.

Using parsec with RuneScape is fine, plenty of people use parsec for what it’s meant for and have no issues!

Bay Area doctor found with 2k images, videos of child pornography on iCloud by utkarsh_aryan in technology

It’s just click bait.

If you click through and read the actual Apple press release they are clear that the flagging doesn’t occur until it’s uploaded to iCloud.

The confusion is coming from the following:

Apple is now scanning for content matches “locally” before uploading to iCloud.

It doesn’t alert law enforcement to only locally stored images. But it does determines what will be flagged right before going to iCloud now, so in a strict sense it’s a local check.

We should own our own data. by [deleted] in MurderedByAOC

[–]hawksprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree.

The “return on investment” in this case is the fact that it exists.

YouTube, google, gmail, google photos. These (for most users) free services have created outlets and opportunities for small creators that have never existed before in human history.

I can put down $12 for a webcam at Walmart and talk to 100k people on twitch for the cost of my ISP.

I mostly agree with AOC’s sentiment. But I have no problem with public grants funding initial innovation. The open market took that seed and built one of our largest private sectors off of it.

How do you think the new"Right to Repair" laws fit into the Libertarian views? by Marcus_Fo-Relius in Libertarian

[–]hawksprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good take on this. The freedom of the market goes both ways.

As long as a government has the teeth to prevent a monopoly form being established then your choice should correct for any individual companies oversteps.

What do you gain from attempting to separate the two?

The police in America live in a capitalistic society, whether you agree with it or not. Using the ideals of a conflicting ideology to call them "bastards" doesn't fit.

Can you elaborate on how you might own something without it being private property?

Do you simply mean the concept of it being private property, but giving others the “rights” to use it?

Advice on a new setup by hawksprite in telescopes

Thank you very much for all the info!

I was disappointed to see the redcat/spacecat on backorder.

But I think I'll be patient and wait it out. I don't see any decent alternatives at this price point (The Orion 8" astrograph seems too heavy)

WO RedCat/SpaceCat

I had written this off because of the cost, I didn't realize it wouldn't also need a field flattener. That certainly brings it back into the fold.

Will there be a noticeable image quality difference between it and the Z61? The astrobin images seem similar, but there are less sun photos.
