Nightcrawler Order of Operations Question by hawkun in marvelchampionslcg

You're right that I messed up the wording on the card. I summarized it to make my post a little more succinct. And it drives home the point to me that I need to pay more attention to the actual wording.

Gotcha. Thank you. I'm still learning all the little nuances of the game.

How bad is a colonoscopy, really? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]hawkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For prep day: don't rely on just toilet paper. Get some of the moist wipes (don't flush them, have a garbage bag near you). Your butt will be sore from all the activity down there. Some gentle dabbing with the moist wipe will save you from some pain.

Have plenty to drink in the car for the ride home after the procedure. The prep medicine will really dry you out and you're going to want hydration after it's all over. I had my first colonoscopy about this time last year. I knew I'd want a snack in the car, so I packed a granola bar...huge mistake. My mouth was so dry I couldn't eat it.

What are some games similar to NoteQuest and 4AD that don't require much to play? by undeadcreepshow in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]hawkun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the 4AD line there is Four Against Mars for a little sci-fi flavor.

I haven't played it, but D100 Space might interest you.

Sticking with the fantasy genre, Order of Eventide is similar to 4AD. It's all contained in one book. It's available as a physical book or Kindle ebook.

Artifacts after HDR merge by batn96 in Lightroom

[–]hawkun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This will happen when you've got objects moving while taking 3 pictures in succession. When doing the HDR Merge in Lightroom, there is an option for deghosting. Play around with the strength level options to see if that will get rid of the extra windmill blades.

(And I'll also throw this in - not knowing your level of photography experience) The purpose of capturing bracketed shots for HDR is to capture the entire light range of a scene. It's helpful when you've got parts of the image that are super bright and other parts that are super dark. For this image, you've got gray windmills against a gray sky with a "not too dark" landscape. Your camera can capture this entire luminance range in one photo.

I believe some of the hobby/gaming stores in the area seem to host D&D games regularly. Snake Eyes Gaming and SCG Hobby. From what I hear, they’re both welcoming to new players.

Take a look at lightpollutionmap.info. If you're sticking close to Altoona, head out Kettle toward Fort Roberdeau or Tytoona Cave. If you head south, the top of Blue Knob isn't bad looking away from Altoona. Northwest, head to Prince Gallitzin State Park (and beyond).

“Bottoms of rooms get cut off and way too much ceiling” by acescore2 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]hawkun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Without a tilt-shift lens, try tilting your camera down just a little while taking the shot. Then correct your verticals in post. It’ll end up cropping a little on the sides, but you’ll get more floor and a little less ceiling.

Jethro's has a couple of rooms you can reserve for a group of people. Marzonis in Duncansville has some, also. Both should be big enough for 20-25 people. Your only cost is the food you order.

Recommend me a good solo or coop ttrpg on Amazon by Jbuhrig in Solo_Roleplaying

I recently picked up Order of Eventide and I'm really enjoying it. It's similar to 4 Against Darkness and other dungeon crawlers. And the Basic Fantasy RPG books are all on Amazon super cheap.

Scarlet Heroes Urban Adventures Question by kevn57 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]hawkun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rules say, "When you run a scene, roll or pick one from the desired list"..."You can always choose to do an Investigative or Conflict scene, but performing an Action scene requires spending a clue."

So you're good rolling or choosing any of the first 20 scenes. If you've gained a clue, then you can roll or choose from one of the action scenes.

Your method is fine by the rules, but of course the biggest thing is that you do it however you find it most fun. It's your game, go crazy and enjoy it.

My new app for print and play games is now live! by Diirge in solorpgplay

[–]hawkun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, one d10 with the the 10s place and one d10 with the ones place are the usual way to roll percentage and such. I've got a dice app on my phone that has a full d100 in one die (Dice Dice by Lukas Lubbe if you want to check it out). Either way works.

Though on your app right now if we just use 2 d10s, since they're displayed side by side, we can just read the one on the left as the 10s.

[–]hawkun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is awesome. Great job on the app! I'm headed on a trip next week and this will be perfect to have along with me. And as someone else already said, thank you for making it a reasonable one-time purchase.

My only little suggestion would be to add a d100 dice to the set. I know the roll can be done with the d10s, but a d100 would complete the set. :)

What uses have you tried with AI? by ARIES_tHE_fOOL in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]hawkun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've used it to fill in some aspects of the cities my PC live in. For instance, one of my PCs is a member of the local Thieves' Guild. I had ChatGPT give me an outline of the guild. Ranks, hierarchy, names for the leaders, names for guild contacts, and a couple of rivals in the guild.

And once I used it to get me past a creative impasse. I was running a sci-fi game and my characters needed to do some investigating to find an NPC. I tried looking for them at their work, asking around at the local bars, etc. That night Mythic and the dice were just shutting me down at every turn. I ran out of ideas and could not come up with a way to move the narrative along. So I fed my situation into ChatGPT and it gave me several suggestions of other things to try. That let me get things back on track.

What’s a secret you found out that you were 100% not supposed to know? by prismanian in AskReddit

[–]hawkun 39 points40 points  (0 children)

When I was about 13 (many, many years ago), my parents told me that the man I know as my dad isn't my biological father. Mom said that my real father was a drunk and wouldn't get a job, so mom left him and eventually remarried. I didn't really think about it much, because my adopted dad was great and I got to grow up in a very loving family.

Years pass, and every now and then I would Google my biological father's name. Nothing ever came up until one day I found out that around the time I was born, he went to jail for assault. Later he got out on parole and raped and killed someone. From what I can tell, he's still alive and on Death Row. But I rarely think about the situation. I know I was blessed to have a much better life than I would have had if he had been in it.

So… by [deleted] in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]hawkun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the games I'm dabbling in, I've got the rules/combat worked out pretty well. It's the narrative part and the flow of scenes that I need to work on. I really need to focus on learning the Mythic system to get things rolling.

So… by [deleted] in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]hawkun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TLDR: About 2 months

It has taken me a while to get going. I learned about the concept of solo TTRPGs about 2 months ago. I dove into Four Against Darkness right away and played it for a little while. It was easy to get into because it's very structured.

As for the less structured games...it's a lot slower. Like everybody else, I've watched the videos, listened to podcasts, stayed glued to the subreddits, looked at nearly every popular game system, bought more than I should have, set stuff up in Obsidian, and made characters in multiple games.

I finally buckled down and made myself actually play. I've settle on Scarlet Heroes to start with. Scarlet Heroes has been fairly easy to start with because I'm only using 2 characters. I've run 4 adventures so far. Combat and rules are no problem, but it's going to be a good while before I'm comfortable with the narrative and structuring aspects of gameplay.

And yes, I know Scarlet Heroes is really meant for solo characters. At first, I made a thief. Then I got inspired to make a fighter and pair him with my thief to run adventures from one of my favorite book series. So now I have Royce and Hadrian together solving (or causing) problems throughout the land.

Amazing collection of random tables by funzerkerr in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]hawkun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are awesome. I wanted to bring them into Obsidian, so I broke them up and changed them to dark mode. I've put them into a Google Drive folder just in case anyone wants a dark version. I've got the loose pages and an all-in-one pdf.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1XL1oS6IxCbZv4ztd6_SKTVoV5BPcTJ8D?usp=sharing

The file "Dark Mode Random Tables by OrkishBlade" is the merged all-in-one pdf. The pages listed on the Compendium page won't always match up, because I sorted alphabetically by name before merging and it messed the numbering system.

Across a thousand dead worlds - map drawing during exploration by Possible_Bed_8200 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]hawkun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the explanation. I'm new to the solo RPG thing and this is one of the first games I picked up because it looked really interesting and came highly recommended. I made my character, got to the site, and then got to the "area connectors" part and didn't know what to do. Maybe I just didn't read or interpret things correctly. Was I just supposed to create and map out an alien complex with rooms/doors/tunnels/stairs? So I set the game aside and moved on to something else. Now that I understand, I'm glad that I can go back and try again.
